I feel like the reason they feel emotions while sorting numbers on the computer is possibly because they are possibly trying to create a hivemind, they feel the same emotion that Gemma does when she goes into the different rooms

The Dentist IS the same man in all the other rooms. He's just wearing different "disguises". Something to note as well is that the workers watching MDR from their computers look similarly to them, like their "twins" from the ORTBO.
