There were a few callbacks in this one. Obviously the one with Manny, but when Phil is saying his dad was the cool dad, he knew all the slang- that's pretty much a direct quote from Phil in the show pilot episode. Also the continuation of Phil using hairdressing to have a serious conversation :) The last time that happened Haley turned the tables on Phil and gave him a shampoo and he revealed he was stressed that Alex tried beer 😂

Frank 🥺 He was such a sweet character and I loved him so much 💕 The scene with Cam, Manny and Lily helping out Gloria at the rival open house was so funny. Cam definitely came through for her 😂

TLC

This has always been a tough one for me because it's always reminded me of my own father and his passing. Sadly Fred Willard passed away in real life four months after this episode aired.

Ty (Phil) plays heartfelt and bittersweet moments so well in the series. It’s easy to overlook this because of his comedic acting. I’ve been waiting for this episode this season as it’s one of my favourites. ♥️

Olivia McGowan

As far as i’m aware they knew that Fred Willard was close to the end and it was an intentional tribute, as TLC mentioned, he did in fact pass very soon after it was filmed. It’s very very sad but also very nice :(

Shanti (cuchupacu)

he got an MFA in theater (at penn state university, where he studied w keegan-michael key) and has acted in several plays including shakespeare- such a well-rounded actor.

Peter Warton

This is one of the sweetest episodes in the series, and after the out-of-character conflicts (IMO) from the whole Sherry story line in Last Christmas, it's a welcome return to the heartfelt warmth that makes this show so great. And a beautiful tribute to Fred Willard. ❤️
