Michael Schur has a new show! A Man on the Inside, its out on Netflix and I believe they are making a season 2 (if its not already out). Season 1 was really fun.

Julie A

This is another clever way to curse but not curse on network TV. 😉

Hefty517

Slow morning at work, so I was able to watch...shhh...Really love this show, hope you will too. The lead, Kristen Bell, has been a favorite of mine since I first saw her as the lead in a show called Veronica Mars years ago. I've also loved Ted Danson since I was a kid watching Cheers. The whole cast is great, can't wait to watch more.

Sarah_M

The pop-up notes that you've added in have absolutely KILLED ME DEAD 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Julie A

What are pop-up notes?

Sarah_M

There's one at 11:33 that pops up, and then another on the outro at 34:22. 💜

DN Reacts

That’s good to know! Hope it’s another good one 😀

DN Reacts

😂😂 the second one made me laugh as I typed it! You see it too though right?? I couldn’t believe it when I realised I was wrong!

DN Reacts

We can’t wait to watch more too! I don’t know much about Ted Danson, I’m going to assume he’s the older guy? The one that’s running the neighbourhood.

Hefty517

Right, Michael, the white-haired fellow in charge of the neighborhood. He’s been in loads of stuff, but he’s most famously known as Sam Malone, the bartender lead in the 80’s sitcom Cheers, about a Boston bar.

Sarah_M

Mate, I can't help you there because I knew who the actor was before I saw him on the show lol. So I'm afraid it just wasn't quite the same AHA! moment for me as it seemed to be for you. But I genuinely love that you had bring it up in note form for us, took me out. 😂😂😂

CuyValDar

When Michael was showing Eleanor her house Eleanor did tell Michael that she loved clowns, which we later found out was a lie, so she did lie before the hiccup.

DN Reacts

Ahh good catch! Of course she did.

I enjoyed the Good Place because it was original but I didn't enjoy it as much as a lot of people seem to do. I wonder if it's because it's too close to home. Like how doctors don't enjoy Grey's Anatomy and lawyers don't like How to Get Away With Murder (e.g.). I got my Bachelors in ethics and moral philosophy so it was cool to see some of the topics I've studied laid out sitcom-style and introduced to more people, but it definitely made the whole concept and narrative a little more predictable and less impactful. Especially when they get little things wrong (again like a doctor watching ER). haha. But I do really appreciate Kristen Bell as an actress and comedian because of this. She's great. And Janet is up there with Gina Linetti (from Brooklyn 99) as some of my favorite sitcom characters. She's so funny. I can't remember if you said you were also watching Community or if it was coming after? I know you said it was a super close vote. Does anyone remember?

Joe

So excited you are reacting to my favorite show! You mentioned that is show is a unique concept. Yes it is a sitcom, but it is really comedy, fantasy, and ethics class all in one with a ton of heart. There is so much to discover about this world they created and looking forward to being on this journey with you. A few points, you mentioned this episode was not called Pilot. After Michael Schur’s success on the Office, Parks, and B99, they gave him a straight to series order and no pilot was needed. I think that helped him be more comfortable making this crazy concept, because the network already gave him a blank canvas. Also you asked about the colors of the outfits everyone was wearing. They were Maize and Blue, which are Michigan colors because she was lying about going to Michigan Law school. Also the ladybug and frog were in an earlier intro shot of the good place but they were normal. Then they reappeared as giant and crazy when everything started going nuts. You mention a few places you know Kristen Bell from, her most popular role was probably voicing Princes Anna in Frozen. Love this show. Can’t wait for the next one.

TLC

The death sounded correct...buying a margarita kit for one...

TES

FINE!!!! I’ll stop my entire day to watch this. Also I think Kristen Bell is probably most famous for doing one of the main character voices in the Frozen movies? I haven't seen them but I feel like that's by far her most famous thing.

Reagan

Nick, you watching and loving GG is amazing!!🤣 That show is so entertaining, I've seen it at least 4 times all the way through. Kristen Bell had the perfect voice for the narration😌

Reagan

This show is very fast-paced. It makes for an enjoyable experience imo!

Julie A

In the later seasons of Cheers he was the highest paid actor in a sitcom.

Jordan Wiegand

Season 2 came out last year and theyre making a season 3!

Jordan Wiegand

In 2023 I was riding the universal studios Hollywood backlot tour and went through the main courtyard with the yogurt shops! It was so cool to see in person

Em P

Yaaaaay

IrishYankee

blue and yellow is for her University of Michigan shirt

Olivia McGowan

much to discuss about this at a later date….

DN Reacts

Thank you for the added context! Hope you enjoy the journey 😀

DN Reacts

Yeah it’s a fun watch! We will be doing the GG tour next time we are in NY 😀

Em P

You might recognise Jameela Jamil (Tahani) from British TV - she was a presenter on T4

Reagan

Ugh that sounds amazing. I'd die if I even got to watch GG in NY!!!😄 Let alone a tour😌

Jake Hamilton

Heads up - this is another show that has different cuts of episodes on different streaming platforms, kind of like The Office. So you might need to let people know what platform you're watching on to sync up correctly

Ashleep

He's a bit of a Legend (Ted Danson); he's married to Mary Steenburgen and they've played themselves for years on Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm"

Doug

If I’m remembering correctly, the intro with the eyes opening was inspired by Lost. Between this show and Lost, your heads are going to be spinning with all the twists and turns. I’m looking forward to taking the journey with you guys!

Ambrosia

Kristin Bell was also the lead in a show called Veronica Mars in 2004, where she plays a teen private detective. That was my first introduction to her! This show is marvelous, and you guys are going to have SO much fun watching this! I am already picturing moments in the show that are going to make for some great reactions!

TES

I had this with another reaction where they sometimes used Amazon Prime, other times Peacock

Susen

I love Janet so much - D'Arcy Carden has so much fun with this role!

Susen

William Jackson Harper isn't related to Samuel Jackson.. Michael brings up the reference to the lady bugs when he's talking about how perfect everything is (every blade of grass, every lady bug. It's fun to pause and read all the things that points were based on.

Kate Hanson

It's so much fun watching this with you guys! It's one of my all time favorite shows, and I've re-watched it at least four or five times. I catch new things every time. One of the things I noticed this time was just how solid the characters and the acting are from the very beginning. So many shows, especially sitcoms, take a little while to find their footing. But this entire ensemble cast knock it out of the park from the very first episode. Can't wait for the next episode!

Susen

I missed the pop up note until I saw the comments - I'm typically watching the show and I have you on, but more listening than watching.

Jordan Hume

That was just a hiccup because she was drunk. You're looking a bit too deep into that.

Jujubeans

I think the ladybug was maybe because the Director (I forget his name) said earlier that every blade of grass, every lady bug, was placed intentionally to make it perfect, so the ladybug being huge and out of place was just a quick visual way to say “something is wrong”. I’ve tried to get into this show in the past, not very hard, but I’m going to stick with it with you guys! I’m older now so appreciate the story its trying to tell. All these actors are pleasing to watch but I feel like they don’t hit the comedic timing/land the jokes as well as that could have (at least not yet, and just for me, a personal opinion). But I’m excited to watch this regardless and maybe it will grow on me. I just feel like I’m “supposed” to be laughing at some parts but I just smile a bit haha. Maybe I’m just used to more zany energy

Tender Vigilante

Kristen Bell is (also) known here in the states for a really great show called Veronica Mars. It's a mystery show so if mystery shows are your thing, I definitely suggest it, it's got elements of comedy and noir and Kristen is great in it. I'm so glad you're reacting to The Good Place! I can't wait to see your reactions, it'a a fun show with a lot of great twists and a lot of heart.

Jeff K.

On the note of the unique concept: a movie I'd recommend for the guys that's got some vague similarities and is excellent is the Albert Brooks/Meryl Streep film Defending Your Life. Such a great movie.

Ludus Aurea

Yasssss this show is 10/10. I assumed you would do it because you've done two other Michael Schur shows and the Office so I guess that's 3, didn't expect it this soon. Tahanis actress has the female version of my name so I have an extra though pointless attachment to the show in case it wasn't amazing already. It's an intelligent show that can be pretty educational but also hilarious in its discussion of morality. You also won't have to remember a lot of character names. At best there are maybe 8 characters that matter and even then it primarily - like 98% - focuses on the 6 main characters you've already met.

Ludus Aurea

He is. Very famous actor - he was Sam on Cheers. He has a recurring guest role, or had, on The Orville, he was in Saving Private Ryan, Curb Your Enthusiasm and tons of other shows.

Ludus Aurea

I never would have known. Thank you I must now binge this tonight.

Ludus Aurea

I would say probably. I first consciously saw her in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and I'm sure she was in stuff before that.

Ludus Aurea

Not to be difficult and I know this is entirely not your fault but whatever version you’re watching is not syncing well for me. It’s over a minute off due to weird cut differences which makes sense because your video ended at 22:50 when credits start at 25:25 on the dvd version. Where are you watching it so I can try to find that version?

Ludus Aurea

Yea it’s over a minute off from my version.

Danilo C

She also lied in that scene when she asked Janet if some guy was gay. Eleanor said something like "I didn't like him that much" and Janet immediately corrected her with "yes, you did".

Morgan Blaney

I have been really busy at work and life events lately (planning my wedding!) but I am excited to have a relaxing fall and watch my favorite creators more again! This is one of those shows everyone needs to see, im glad you're watching and can't wait for the journey.
