Lone Star: Targeted
Chapter 2
One week later, Monday night…
Stars twinkled in the clear cobalt sky. Lone Star flew well above the city lights below, enjoying the cool quietness of an early summer night. The sun had only set an hour earlier, so it was still pretty hot down at street level.
It was her first day back in costume after being sniped a week back. Worse Sunday of her life. Alpha Meta women rarely felt that kind of pain. She could handle quite a lot of abuse, but being shot by a .50 Cal right through her thigh bone was an agony she wouldn’t wish to put on anyone. Well, maybe on the bastard that shot her.
Her flesh healed quickly, but bone took longer. She was in a cast for six days. Fortunately, as a commercial actress and model she could go for prolong periods to heal without anyone knowing of her injury.
Lone Star spotted a pair of familiar racing motorcycles on the road below. Vixen and Gloriosa were speeding up Harry Hines Boulevard, heading south toward downtown. She gave a little nod. The FEM Fighters were still a good five to ten minutes out.
She reached her location, so began a slow spiral downward, arms outstretch, legs pressed together behind her. Everyone flew differently. That was how she liked to do it. Indeed, Water and Air Powers couldn’t fly the same way as a Telekinetic. And those poor Electric Powers had to be surrounded by a ball of electricity to fly.
That would suck, she thought.
Lone Star flew down to the two-story structure. It was a Chinese restaurant on the ground floor. In back, there was a two story addition with a roofdeck atop it. It overlooked a creek lined with massive weeping willows. Three women huddled in the middle of that roofdeck.
The red, white, and blue clad beauty landed on the roofdeck. The other three heroines turned to regard her.
“Lone Star!” Ms Texicana cried, rushing up to hug her. “How are you doing? Are you sure you’re ready to resume duties?”
“I’m fully healed,” she told the beautiful Latina heroine.
Ms Texicana stood a couple inches shorter than Lone Star, but possessed a more shapely, busty body. Honestly, Lone Star considered the Latina the most gorgeous of them all. Her body was crazy. Men literally stopped and gawked at her in that skin-tight black leotard and thigh boots. Her costume had long sleeves, but was otherwise all but backless with a plunging neckline. Lone Star wasn’t sure how she kept it on her body. Gold trimmed her leotard, while the mask and boots where patient leather. She was an Air Power.
A beautiful brunette embraced her next. Lady Texas’ costume looked like a Cowboy cheerleader, but in red, white, and blue. Like Lone Star, she was a Telekinetic Power.
“Love ya,” Lady Texas whispered.
A slim, busty redhead quickly replaced Lady Texas. She wore a Texas-flag themed bikini costume, with red mask, white opera gloves, and blue thigh boots.
“Hey, beautiful,” Texas Girl practically giggled, as she wrapped Lone Star up in a fierce hug. “I was so worried about you.”
“Aww, don’t worry about me. I have the super heals.”
The eighteen year old redhead placed a hand over her heart. “I know! Your boots are to die for.”
They all laughed. And Lone Star nodded. So true.
“So, I spotted a pair of FEM Fighters on the road and headed our way,” Lone Star said. “Is there any Sisterhood business we need to deal with before they get here?”
“Only we know who sniped you, and why,” Lady Texas said, not looking pleased. “Apparently, it was personal.”
“He wants to kill me? Me specifically?”
“Yes. You ruined his life by ending his criminal career and sending him to prison,” Lady Texas said. “He calls himself, Havoc. As in wrecks havoc. He is the criminal formerly known as Officer William David Wallace of Mesquite. You sent him to prison for attempted murder of a drug pusher.”
“Oh yeah, I remember him. He was as corrupted as they come, making twice as much money shaking down pushers and others he caught committing crimes instead of arresting them,” she said. “Lord, what was that? Five? Six? No, seven years ago. So, did he get paroled, or escape?”
“Paroled,” Lady Texas said. “His parole officer is not happy.”
“Looks like he’s going back to the slammer,” Texas Girl said. “So sad.”
“First we have to catch him,” Ms Texicana said. “Before he snipes Lone Star again.” She held up the most recent prison mug shot of an angry looking white man, shaved bald, covered in prison tattoos. “Lil Willy Wallace is six foot four, brown eyes, ripped like Jesus. It is believed he also has acquired a FEM Belt and a set of bracers.”
“Ouch! Angry, murderous, and super-powered?”
“Why would a man even want to wear a woman’s FEM Belt?” Texas Girl asked.
Lone Star and Ms Texicana did double takes on the sidekick. Lone Star wondered if she truly didn’t know, or was making a joke.
“It magnifies the wearer’s strength by a factor of 10,” Gloriosa said as she exited the roofdeck door. The shapely Latina wore a bright yellow corset, shorts, and thigh boots costume, so really popped even in dim lighting. “Force Energization and Manifestation belts, or FEM Belts, were originally developed for the military, and are still used by them, as well as FEM Fighters. SWAT officers also frequently wear them, but they are terribly expensive.”
“You must remember,” Vixen said, following Gloriosa onto the deck. “A man starts out stronger than a woman, so multiplying his strength by ten is even more significant. He might be stronger than even an Alpha Meta heroine.”
Vixen struck a sexy pose, before flipping her waist length black braid back behind her shoulder. Her cobalt blue spandex leotard displayed her amazing abs perfectly.
Tomboy entered then, in her red midrift vest, white sports bra, blue shorts, and ankle boots. Lone Star did a double-take on the boots. Last time she met up with Tomboy, the eighteen year old blonde wore Converse hightops. Now she’d upgraded to red and white stiletto ankle boots that looked like Converse sneakers, but with stiletto heels.
“Hi, ladies,” Tomboy said. She hugged Lone Star. “I heard what happened, and was so worried.”
“Aw. It was just a scratch.”
The other Sisterhood heroines all shook their heads.
“Are Puma and Puritan coming tonight?”
“No,” Gloriosa said. “Puma’s out of town. Puritan’s bike was wrecked earlier this evening, and she’s tied up with the police reports.”
Lone Star grimaced. The amount of paperwork a super heroine was forced to endure was epic. No one warned her about that part of the job.
“Okay, so we now have confirmation that Havoc is ten times stronger than he used to be, and probably stronger than us. If that isn’t bad enough, it is believed he as a set of Power Bracers.”
Everyone looked at the three FEM Fighters’ forearms. Metal Power Bracers encircled their forearms. One for an energy shield, the other for a stun beam.
“That’s significant,” Vixen said. “Since he’s bigger and stronger as a man, his stun beam will be stronger, and his energy shield, too.”
“But, stronger beams and shields means they burn up life energy faster,” Gloriosa said. “I suspected his stamina is greater than ours, but in proportion.”
“Oh, so he’ll tire just as quickly as us,” Tomboy said. “Good to know. These things suck us dry!”
“They are definitely our last choice in battle,” Vixen said. “Unless we can get a good shot with the stunner and end the fight quickly.”
Lone Star nodded. “Yes. Our Power doesn’t drain us like those bracers. We can outlast them. But we have to be careful and keep our shields up.”
“That’s not easy,” Texas Girl said. “Not during a fight.”
“Exactly,” Lone Star said. “Havoc sniped me while I was fighting the Gaines Gang. He had the element of surprise, and my distraction.”
“Is the Gaines Gang working with or for Havoc?” Tomboy asked.
“I think so,” Lone Star said. “It is painfully obvious now that they lured me to that spot so Havoc could kill me.”
“Until we catch Havoc, always keep your shield up between you and the ground,” Lady Texas said. “He could snipe any of us at any time. And the fact he successfully hit Lone Star and put her down for a week will only encourage copycats.”
“Which means we have to very quickly take Havoc down,” Lone Star said, as the others nodded. “To show everyone we are not to be messed with. Period.”
