Hi folks,

I know this won't be a popular decision for some of you but I need to pause development of the final two episodes of WTHI for a couple of months so we can focus on a re-do of the earlier episodes. This is not a decision I am taking lightly and I've mulled this over for the past few months.  The re-do is not just an upgrade of the early episode art, it will be a full script overhaul of ALL of the earlier episodes (removing some scenes, adding some new ones, editing some scenes and extending some scenes) in addition to re-doing  all of the art and adding animations.  Why not finish WTHI first and then start on the re-do? (Fair question). Here's why...

As most of you know, I have a real-life job in addition to working on WTHI. For the first four years of working on WTHI, I used to do the equivalent of working two full time jobs where I would work my normal job Mon-Fri and also squeeze in 40-60 hours of WTHI per week ( 4-5 hours Mon-thur evenings, an all-nighter on Friday and then as many hours as possible on Sat-Sun).

But after four years, that was no longer sustainable (was burning me out) so what I have been doing recently is alternating my time between my real-life job and WTHI by taking unpaid leave from my job (either a couple of days a week, a couple of weeks a month or more recently, I have taken a whole month off work to concentrate on WTHI). When I'm working WTHI only, I can easily squeeze in 60 hrs per week.  But when I'm working my real-life job, I can only manage about 20-25 hours per week on WTHI. And Cell (our long suffering artist)  is continously churning out 50+ hour weeks.  I thought we could keep this set-up going until I finish WTHI completely but I cannot.  To finish the game properly (without cutting corners and ensuring we  give each character the ending they deserve), I estimate there is at least 6 months work left (to complete EP24 and EP25) plus I want to do an epilogue scene for each character (or group of characters), so there's still many months of work needed to complete WTHI fully.  I was hoping to get it all done by the end of this year with the current system of alternating between unpaid time-off from my real-life job but I can't.

Currently, WTHI requires over 100 hours per week spread across Cell and I. After Patreon costs, transfer fees and all the other outgoings associated with game development, this means that working on WTHI actually pays Cell and I less than minimum wage per hour (based on where we live). So continously taking unpaid leave from my real-life (decent-paying) job to earn minimum wage is just not sustainable for the rest of this year.

So, the current plan is to increase the audience/income for WTHI by releasing on Steam. If all goes to plan, the extra income from Steam will give me more financial wiggle-room to take more unpaid time-off from work to focus on WTHI.  So, although it means a lack of progress on new episodes in the short-term, it is the best decision for the overall completion of the game.

In order to get onto steam, we have to re-do the earlier episodes, because they are just not up to scratch.  So the current plan is to spend the next two months working on a re-do of episodes 1-10 (Season 1) and release on Steam. And obviously we will also release the new upgraded game on patreon too.  And once Season 1 is complete, we can then switch our focus back to current episodes and complete and release Episode 24.

I know some people have been clamoring for a rework, while many others would prefer that we just finished the game before going back and re-doing but in the long-run (and based on my personal circumstances) this is the best approach for the overall completion of the game and to keep the quality high. So, for any of you that have been asking for a rework of earlier episodes, it is coming. For any of you that have zero interest in a re-do and only want the new episodes, then consider this a two-month postponement of the new episodes. And for those in the zero interest category, I fully understand if you drop/cancel your pledge.

As always, please ask any questions or add any inputs/comments in the comments section below or feel free to DM me directly.

Thanks,

CG

Take all the time you need to the best version of the product. I’m OK to wait some extra month to see the final vision you’ve wanted to share.

Helms1337

This for sure had to be a tough call but good on you for being realistic about the business and protecting the quality of the work over hitting artificial deadlines. Some will be upset about delays, some will be upset about scenes/art/dialog that they enjoy being replaced, but changes like this are all part of the journey and it's kind of awesome that we get to see the evolution of the project instead of just whatever the final product ends up being. Hoping Steam pulls in the needed revenue! Anyone mad about changes: save your current download. You have all the content and memories forever. You also get an alternate (probably improved and certainly more coheisive) take on the material coming up. Since a lot of the script is done and scenes are blocked there will be new content faster. We all want to see where the story ends so waiting on that sucks but being able to experience this game again in a new way is a great consolation prize until it's finished IMO.

NecromancerB

I speak for myself, but have to assume others feel the same; we have come so far and invested feelings into these characters. The ending needs to satisfy not just conclude. Good things come to those who wait. . .

The game is worth replaying from the beginning as is so I welcome the redo. Also, I’m torn between continuing to play and the completion of the game. Don’t want it to end.

VN ranking

You didn't explain why you're doing the rework in general. This is the best VN that has been ever created (it's No. 1 in ma ranking https://vnrank.blogspot.com/) , so it's very good to go on Steam as it is now. You will lose a lot of time for a rework when you could already sell it there and get the income. There's always something that could be done better but this way you can work infinitely on making correction instead of going on.

Callisto

I wish you every success on Steam and elsewhere and hope that you can continue to develop such games in the future without the hardship you described. No matter how that turns out, I will always be grateful for what you have already accomplished. Thank you and please stay well.

Ken Weeks

I like the fact that you can load anywhere in the game specify the relationship of each girl and play from there just to see what happens. This gives a lot of replay value.

Me parece bien, es muy honesto por tu parte, el explicarlo y considero que el nivel que tien este juego , merece el esfuerzo. Gracias.

So the game is pretty great all around I and I think most don't really have a bad word to say about it. I can't speak for everyone but the graphics and script so far are leaps and bounds above most if any VN's currently out there. For that and all the time and effort you put into it once again thank you and Cell. As a Dev I can understand why'd you want to go back and either improve or revamp problems either we the players can't see or didn't understand could be better. But had two questions one I know you said to complete 24 and 25 also the epilogue would take six months and you wanted to take a few months to go back for script graphics and other stuff. the question is what kind of time frame is it going to take to redo 1-23 or is a few months the best rough estimate if 24-25 take 6 months? just curious. and the second question I know you said you wanted to make sure each character receives their due about of time and epilogue but I have to ask again Is it possible to include a harem ending with all because loosing relationships with some characters when they find out your with others hurts. Basically I know your doing as real relationships with most if not all but if the MC is jungle that many relationships at once can he catch a break I mean have his cake and eat it to. Sorry kinda wanted to have a Pokemon epilogue (gotta catch'em all) with the girls.

tezster

I fully support this route, and actually prefer it over finishing the game first, then going back for a re-do, which often times feels like an afterthought, and something that gets haphazardly tacked on at the end. And obviously, you deserve to be financially compensated for your work (above and beyond minimum wage, I mean). Hopefully the overhaul will include a more integrated scene gallery 🙂

Marlboro

Yes!! Guess the rework alone will increase suppers as the first episodes may be a turn down (imo). Only down side is that saves will most likely not work any more.

hisstoryman

You have to do what is best for you. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Walter L.

Well, that's that, then. The most likely outcome of this is that the game will never be finished. Yes, I understand money is an issue, yes I get that steam will give you more income, but I can't even think of a single game that was remade (and to this extent, 10 whole chapters) and then actually finished. There are a few still being worked on, that MIGHT, but so far none of them have actually been finished and that just fills me with dread for the future of WTHI. I have had a lot of trust in you and the team over the years, as updates took longer and longer and release dates were moved back again and again, becaause I could always understand your reasoning and I know that live often throws a wrench in your plans. But this? No, I can't act as if I think this is a good idea. Honestly, for me, this is a massive disappointment. You've done so well for so long, not falling into the common trap to redo your work before you actually finish it. And that when the end was literally in sight. I read the other comments being positive about this, and it just makes me angry. Don't people ever learn? There've been dozens of games in this genre that died after a decision like this.

Penz

I follow your thought process and I have loved and supported this game because of the story and the transparency of the dev team. I am skeptical about remakes as I also have seen many games go this route and then never make it back to finishing the story. I trust you and will give it the two months because a 10 chapter remake in 2 months sounds awesome and it's been a while since i replayed the game. However this does set up for a huge disappointment if the remake also gets delayed.

Puttanegra Ficondo

That was the exact same thought that came through my head. It’s a shame - story and characters were particularly well-done. Oh well… that’s life.

Julian Harper

While the delay sucks, if it means the final game will be better I am all for it

Grey Metal Fox Games

Welp. It is what it is. I certainly see the benefits and uneasiness this decision has caused. From the point of view of a developer, with knowledge and technique gained over the years makes redoing parts or all of the game very tempting. You get to improve and implement ideas you didn't have early in development or had the time. While veteran supporters (understandably) fear another incomplete game rotting on the ground before it ripens, properly consumed and enjoyed. Thus, feeling money well wasted. It's a tightrope you've chosen to walk my friend. Your trust and reputation as a developer is on the line after all. I've weighed this very much in thought as I'm developing my game. I've played and supported plenty of adult games and took a lot of notes of 'do's & don'ts' as a developer. It's a gamble seeing a project like this to its final conclusion not knowing what unforeseen circumstances will arise. Remember, there is always the next 'hotshot' developer popping up, and most supporters are limited in their resources, while being distracted by the new piece of candy. Do what you got to do but do what you need to do to keep loyal supporters too. It's a tightrope, no doubt. You might lose a few, but as long as you keep your word it can only benefit you.

Medici

Understood. Do you think you could raise income by making sharing less easy? E.g. by sending updates directly to paying customers with individual passwords, or something similar.

Matt Gorman

Just so it won't require starting over once the new episode is out. Way too late for that.

Kildekat

To focus on quality is always the best choice IMHO :) Keep up the good work bro ;)

Alex

Can't say im not disappointed. I mean we got maybe 2 updates last year? Now this next one is going to be postponed, for what feels like an extremely ambitious, 2 months to remake 10 chapters? Given how each update at the moment feels like they already get delayed a month minimum already, I feel like there is 0 chance this is only going to be 2 months. So minimum we won't get a new update to the main game till at least May/June (assuming timelines are actually accurate). So total other than the rework, we'll get maybe 1 new chapter this year? I'm not gonna stop supporting as this is still one of my favourite AVNs with Jenna being my favourite girl. And I 100% understand the need for this and understand the monetary aspect, but I'm just disappointed is all.

DieASlowDeath

Money makes the world go 'round. Go get you some steam cash so I can continue to play your awesome games. 😈

Nathan Clark

Hey, I've loved the game so far and if you decide to rework it that just means that I'll have something else to look forward to in the replay if/when I choose to go another route with the girls. If this was paying enough to give up a full time job I'd be upset at the delay but since it's not I fully get it. Real Life comes first and I look forward to seeing what comes out. Until then I've got other stuff I can play to keep me occupied.

Impracticality

Not going to lie, I'm very worried the game might never be finished. I understand why Cheeky is doing what he's doing and I hope it works out for the best, but there are so many pitfalls once we start diverting our attention from the finished game.

Lionheart

Well the redo is no problem to wait two more months for the story to continue. the question of completion of WTHI is becoming concerning as you loss ACE, Cell has his own projects, and you have a full time job. this really starting to look like it wont finish! :( The Steam will be a advantage and possible even a fresh start for us who have played it. can Patrons get a code to get at reduced cost. reduce the cost based on tier would fine. will we be given a walkthrough and ability to adjust Points for the ladies? makes for games on steam replay able just asking

Brianosaurus

I'm definitely sorry to read that Ep24 will be delayed. I was planning to temporarily drop support in a few weeks due to losing my job at the end of March, but now I can permanently stop supporting on Patreon and just buy the game on Steam. Good luck, Cheeky.

Skeeve

I think it is a good choice. I think as a dev you will make your best and so i understand your decision and your game is good and than better. But you have a real life and must eat and in this times it is good you have enough money for your life and it is important you can life from your work. I will wait for the next update. have a nice time.

DSTommie

Disappointing.

Juan Vasquez

This is dumb. Really dumb. Why are you redoing earlier episodes if you're finishing the game? I mean REALLY dumb. You could finish the game and get started on the next project. So this is extremely dumb, or you're trying to milk more money out of us. Which is it?

hisstoryman

Since a rework was always in the plan, since the initial art update, it doesn't bother me really. Sure it would have been nice to get the ending first, but I have been in it this long what is a couple of months. I hope the Steam release works out well for you and your crew.

Mathijs

So episode 24 was almost done and then you decide to do this? Why not after you finished ep 24? Well I alway hate remakes, so ill come back when the next update is done, whenever that may be.

FunkyMunky60

Not the best news this past month. First the departure of one of the dev team (Ace), and now the postponement of game development. Can’t but be worried about the game’s future, with just a couple of episodes to go.

Chesty

Hmm seems like a convenient way to milk more money from people. Hopefully we will eventually see this game finished but for some reason I doubt it. Oh well, maybe I will resub in a few months to see what actually happened. I have to many experiences with greedy developers and I am not willing to risk dealing with that non sense yet again.

Labmunky

do what you need to cheeky. im 100% in your camp...you were there for my cancer debacle so ive git your back man

Labmunky

you got my back cheeky.

Steele76

An interesting plan, Cheeky. I do agree with you. Take your time guys.

slack

APPALLING DECISION. ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING. AND WHY DOES STEAM ACCEPT UNFINISHED GAMES? WAZZACKS. I AM OUT. OF CELL'S GAME TOO, ANOTHER SHOCKER!

2026-09-05 16:00 Incredibly rude some of this lot. . . Cheeky is creating something, and I use the word create with precision. As an artist he holds cart blanche over his work. What can you then offer other than complaints and churlish bleating? You should be thankful his desire to complete this project overpowers any inkling to abandon and leave us, i.e. those who support and encourage him out to dry. I cry shame. . .
