Last week, I saw an advert for an early 1980s BBC Micro games compilation. Splendid art, very cheering:

Unfortunately Des saw it too and started making phone calls to his associate Paul Scoville. Yesterday, he called me into his "office" and showed me the advert for his latest "drop".

Now, I have just seen that someone has replied to the Holiday Harlequinade with the one-word comment "bad", so I anticipate shortly receiving the one-word comment "worse". But there we are. That is the risk of all art, to land like a plane with one wing missing.

Scoville content?!? We are truly #blessed

Matt Jenkins

I initially read that game as 'Mincemeat Oubliette'. Someone should make that.

Tudza

You sure that Santa present drop game doesn't already exist?

scarygoround

I imagine it exists many times over, but has anyone dared simply make it a side scrolling row of 800m identical houses? I mean, again, probably yes. Why are you picking on me?

Daniel Sroka

I so love 80s indie software companies.

Abby

Love!

Pistol

I LIKE THIS

Gavin Lees

That's almost exactly what it was like. I had it on the Speccy. (48k didn't quite stretch to 800m, but it seemed like that to my childish brain.)

Enno Rehling

Tempted to break out Ye Olde Basic and write some of these.

Brian Perler

My brain keeps trying to read the post title as "Action Park". (Probably says more about me than anything, though.)

Luke Drotos

Paul was with Desmond at the slag pit in Wobbly Head, meaning he’s 100% real

Luke Drotos

That place would make for an interesting Destroy History storyline

Paul says you are welcome to use his "blitter", though I am not sure what that means.

glenn

Looks pretty fishy to me.

Jeremy Impson

I know this is of little consolation and probably sounds like a reach, but I would interpret that statement ("bad") as an attempt at black humor rather than sincere criticism.

Jeremy Impson

I assume the Paul Glancy quote comes from the DJ and record producer, and not the Physics professor at a college in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

scarygoround

His account had been compromised, I am very confident that I have no readers who pay for my Patreon who would voice their ire in one unpunctuated word halfway down a comment thread.

J Corkey Custer

This brightened my day immensely. Are the US rights to "Taylor Swift's Christmas Tree Farm" still available?

Enno Rehling

Paul has his home computer generations mixed up. That's the Amiga, and Des' action pack seems to be targeting 8-bit systems.

scarygoround

Paul says: "I've created a hardware blitter for the BBC Micro, it replaces the CPU. I'm working on a windowed GUI for the BBC B using it and if it goes well I intend to roll it out to other platforms. You seem like someone who would be good at soldering Enno! Well, you will need to be." I think you've made a friend for life there. Paul's very protective with his blitter boards.

Enno Rehling

Wow, that is an impressive achievement, and beyond my ken. I'm no hardware engineer, barely know which end of the soldering iron not to hold.

scarygoround

I can confidently say that Paul Scoville is the smartest giant frog in England, he's certainly a lot cleverer than me.

Patrick M Fitzgerald

Y'know, here in parts of America (admittedly a less... dignified... nation), "pud" has a VERY different meaning than that which I think it has here. "Pud Hunter", indeed!

unspiek

Way better than mere "good!"
