Happy new year.

ITEM! I've renamed my Patreon tiers from their previous, slightly gnomic titles, all of which were applied on the day I set this service up in 2020. They are now clearly labelled. Nothing else has changed. Pricing will not alter in 2026, unless there is a sudden onset of hyperinflation, hyperdeflation or hyperstagflation (the rarest of the 'flations).

Subscribers in the SGR Early Reader tiers will get their new Solver PDF on Sunday morning. Comics resume on the website on Monday. Also resuming on Monday will be the toil of your dear friend, cartoonist John Allison, who will be writing Solver #17 all week long. Think of me kindly as I strain my over-vacationed brain to achieve the feats of heavy lifting that bring you the stories you enjoy. I'm spending today and tomorrow idly scribbling, to wake up my drawing muscles. Below you will see one of several pages of frantic doodles necessary to my process.

Sadly Mildred is not in Solver #16. She's not scheduled to be in #17 but there's still time. She is definitely in Solver #18. Solver #18 (the Christmas issue, running in May/June because of a great failure of scheduling) is going to be a lot of fun - my vow to you.

ITEM! Apologies for Topatoco running out of both issues of NEMS - I underestimated demand - but thank you for buying them all up. I will be reprinting my minis in January. Firing them across the Atlantic has been a hit and miss affair but they should be back in stock in February. Savage Sword of Susan, Solver vol 1, and Circus Windows are still available there.

I was run off my feet for the last three months of 2025 which meant a slowdown of updates here, but a gentler start to the year should mean more sketchbook/process drawings at least. If there's anything else you want to see, let me know. I sometimes suffer a failure of imagination, but seldom a failure of effort.

Hope you manage both a gradual start to the year while revivifying the semi-dormant comic-making muscles.

Looking forward to it, and welcome back! BTW I gave myself a copy of the complete Kill or Be Quilt for Xmas although I haven't had a chance to read it yet.

Rimbo (he-him)

there's a sketch at the top of your sketches that looks less like our Charlotte and more like that evil elf chick from ElfQuest you know the one

Happy New Year, John! I hope you had a restful & restorative holiday break. I'm very excited to see what you delight us with this coming year. <3

Welcome back John and Happy 2026! Thanks for this tantalizing Solver sketch (I'm curious about Mildred's new bearded friend) as well as the Topocato news. I gave a copy of Savage Sword Of Susan to a friend as a stocking stuffer and am looking to get NEMS in the near future (sounds like I'll have to wait a bit on that one).

The panel where Shauna refers to someone as a “big useless wizard” has become one of my favorite Max Sarin drawings

Noticed that Little Days will be premiering not long after the five-year anniversary of Circus Windows (and Solver in general). There is no escaping the Grote.

Looks like Dean is on the scene! I wonder if the bearded fellow is going to be the latest Solvee?
