I'm currently on a writer's retreat in the wilds of Shropshire. You'll only get to see what I'm working on if I finish it. I can confidently say that it's some of my best ever writing, and in a completely different format to what I normally do, but if I'm not done by bedtime on Sunday, the window of opportunity will probably have closed and you will be left to wonder, what did John do in Shropshire?

I was meant to come here to "have my ideas for 2027", but as soon as I booked the week away, I had all the ideas. They arrived prematurely, with some fury, to my great embarrassment. I am told that this happens all the time, and it's fine.

Before I departed, I did a pin-up for Kyle Starks' Kickstarter comic, LOUISE SPROUSE STOLE MY HEART (AND I HAVE TWO HOURS TO GET IT BACK). I was trying to get the floating heads feel of a 1970s Marvel Comic, in the limited palette available. I think it came out nicely. The comic it's for is great, by the way. Classic Kyle.

That's all for now, I must return to my seclusion. See you soon.

Ooooh enjoy your solitude!

A Writer's Retreat! Ooh. Hope yours goes better than Shelley's, and if not, you know what to do. Call ... the Solver. Which reminds me, before anyone had heard of Reacher, Gred Rucka penned two novels featuring bodyguard Atticus Kodiac (no, really) entitled "Finder" and "Keeper". It has occurred to me to wonder whether they ever floated across your mind's eye when coming up with a overarching title for Lottie's further exploits?

I did not have Starks+Allison on my 2026 bingo card. That is awesome!

Ohh, interesting, thanks. I haven't come across that one. "To top off the family crisis, her mother Irene returns from the dead to tie up loose ends", what? Might have to give that a whirl if I can.

Allison / Almodovar is one of those things I'd never have thought of but now you say it is weirdly obvious.

Have a great writer's retreat! I hope the locals are nice and not like the ones in Witnail and I or any given British folk horror movie!
