Ash what the hell?

Is it a known fact his memory was erased after leaving the cabin the last time because why on Earth would he play the tape again if he knew the hell it would cause?

Fun little insight on Ruby's family. Now we know why she hates Ash so much. Too bad Annie isn't still alive, she could've helped them read the book in Ash vs Evil Dead. Now I'm wondering if Ruby somehow knows how?

Little Teddy being the Possessed Mother is hilarious to me. Sam really said "You're going to be in these movies or I'm telling Mom and Dad!"

Okay. I love the theories as to what you think is going on with the story but let me help you guys out. It’s not a sequel or a prequel. It’s just a retelling. Therefore, no, Ash hasn’t lost his mind or it hasn’t been wiped or he hasn’t got amnesia. It’s never ever happened to him before because it’s just retelling the story from Evil Dead 1. It introduces more lore with the Knowbys and obviously they had much more money to remake it. Hope that information helps. By the way Army Of Darkness is my favourite because it’s very Xena-fied. You’ll recognize the influence to Xena. Being a fan of the Evil Dead franchise first before Xena, I always saw the influence of it. As for watching 4,5 and now 6 - they’re very different. They’re full out horror movies. No comedy. No camp. Ash is not in them and for me it makes total sense that he isn’t. But I think you will enjoy them for what they are. Especially the latest one which I recently saw in the cinemas. Evil Dead Burn. The creativity and innovation in direction is definitely there with that one. I’d like to see you guys watch them eventually but it’s entirely up to you.

The first 10-15 mins of the film which were confusing you are simply meant to be a retelling of the plot of the first movie to get the audience up to speed with the plot. They have changed a bunch of details, simplified it and written out the other three characters. Even the name of the book has changed from Naturom Demonto to Necronomicon Ex Mortis. Bear in mind there was quite a few years between movies and how different it was in the 80s for being able to rewatch stuff. Owning vhs tapes was expensive and renting them was more common. Centanly in the UK there was a public scare on 'video nasties' and the original evil dead was banned from home video for a long time. So the number of people who'd seen the first movie wasn't potentially that great and an even smaller number would have seen it recently when going to see the sequel.

See that makes tottttttal sense with it being a retelling. But it feels like a waste of a movie does it not?? If that’s the case. And if I was a part of the original and not this one I’d be annoyed they redid it and basically cut out all my work. It’s just odd to me. -Hunter

Well. It’s the same guys who made it so I don’t think they were bothered about that. Lots of people prefer Evil Dead 2. Myself included. Evil Dead 1 was there to introduce the idea, Evil Dead 2 expanded on it and perfected it in my opinion.

Girl4Music

Yes, exactly. It just made more sense to remake it now that the Dream Team had more money. The only reason Evil Dead 1 was the way it was was because they were severely budgeted. And as you said - it was known as a “video nasty” because of the tree scene. It was just better to retell it. However, with it being titled Evil Dead 2 it was confusing to people as to whether it was following on from the story of Evil Dead 1 and not simply just doing it again. But it was.

I love how they got Bruce to redo a lot of the fighting with himself slapstick for Xena when she possessed him. I'm up to the point where Ted is attacking Ash in the basement. Wonder when you clock it's him under all the make up... 😂

To Bruce Campbell: The King of Camp. Thank you for allowing every evil entity enter and possess your character’s body so that you can be a goofball or a warrior princess can kiss a pretty girl.

The whole time I was watching, I was waiting for you to realize it's a re-make and then kick yourselves for not realizing that - although, no question the title confuses the point. The good news is: you didn't have to kick yourselves! Also: how did Ash rent that cabin if the parents were already dead? Zombie Airbnb? And do you think he got his cleaning deposit back?

Army of Darkness is also my favorite of the Evil Dead movies. As you say, it has a very different tone from the first two and I think it's a lot of fun. I've never seen the more recent films, but maybe this will encourage me to do so.

As I said, the remade movies are full out pure horror. There is very little levity if it can be found at all. The most recent one has a little bit of it but it’s not enough to call it classic Evil Dead. But they are very good movies on their own if you like extreme horror.

I remember this movie scared me more as as kid than almost any other. Watching it on TV as an early teen it was strong stuff. The bit that gave me the wig was the stop-motion corpse dance. I found that creepy AF. Then late on all the things in the cabin coming to life and laughing at Ash. I think the jarring mix of comedy with the horror makes this film scarier than those that just try to be scary. It keeps you uncertain if the next moment will be something goofy or scary and it keeps a tension going throughout not knowing what you will be feeling next.

The stop motion dance is CREEPY I agree. I found the weirdest movies scary growing up. E.T. Being one of them. Haven’t even attempted to watch it as an adult. He’s so creepy to me lol. -Hunter

I know what you mean, I never found ET scary as such as a kid but I certainly didn't find him endearing at all. Stop motion on the other hand I LOVE in movies. King Kong, all the Ray Harryhausen monster ones, Wallace and Grommit! It's a fantastic technique

I absolutely ADORE stop motion it is the most incredible art form! Coraline, Nightmare before Christmas, Chicken Run. I loved it growing up! - Tash
