SPIKEEEEEE. Why is he not living up to his slayer killer potential lately? He's constantly running away and it's giving us the ickkkk.

A cult of normies who are wannabe vampies? Just a bunch of teens being naive lol. THAT'S A BUFFET FOR THEM!

Willow is so cute freaking out over her first boy in her room. Although next time, can he at least call in advance? hahha.

GILES: "What do you want me to say?" BUFFY: “Lie to me." GILES: “Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and we always defeat them and save the day!” BUFFY: “Liar.” This. As soon as I saw/heard this… I was hooked. You couldn’t stop me from watching this show from then on even if you tried. It hit a truth so hard that it would be impossible for me not to pay attention to it. I’m not going to apologize for wanting the fact in the fiction. Or for wanting the natural in the supernatural. Or for wanting the reality in the imaginary or in the fantasy. To me it’s all one in the same. It always has been. It always will be. I live for storytelling like this. To other people, ‘BtVS’ may just be a cult teen drama. Just some piece of entertainment to tie them over the weekend away from work or school or whatever. For me it’s much more than that. I get invested in the many different stories it tells because I understand that the supernatural of it all is just a metaphor for natural and normal experiences and emotions of the human being. And I actually really love that about it. That’s why it stands up so well today and always will. It’s representation that matters. It will always matter. And I never took a chance on it all those years ago because I thought it was just a hokey cult teen show. I was SO. WRONG. And I’m glad that I was.

WILLOW: “So, you two were sweeties in fifth grade?” BUFFY: “Not even. Ford wouldn't give me the time of day.” FORD: “Well, I was a manly sixth-grader. I couldn't bother with someone that young.” BUFFY: “It was terrible. I moped over you for months. Sitting in my room, listening to that Divinyls song ‘I Touch Myself’. *She realizes how what she just said could be taken and casts a nervous look at Xander and Willow* Of course, I had no idea what it was about.” *Several moments later the penny finally drops* WILLOW: “Oh, that's what that song is about?!” Very smart girl. But incredibly naive. 😆 I love masturbation jokes in art/entertainment. My favourite one-liner in Xena is Gabrielle’s line: “If I have to go the rest of my life without companionship, knowing myself won’t be a problem.” And Leah’s subsequent reaction towards it is killer! It’s camp comedy that they just don’t do nowadays in TV shows. For good reason I suppose. But I found it funny because I never took that kinda thing seriously.

This episode is buffy learning doing what is right is not as simple as good vs evil that is why I think spike was not really a big threat or the point of him in this episode. The emotional aspect was something harder for Buffy to deal with than spike in this episode. The show takes the monster or plot and uses it as way to relate to life, lessons and growing up. She says to him in that bunker " He does have a choice not a good one but you still can choose to do what's right. This is something that will come up later in the season and in later seasons as she is navigating it all.

Could this be the first ep you didn't hate Xander? All it takes is for him to barely be in an episode! Also loved the joint reaction to Buffy's Divinyls admission! 😂 You are right though the show does need to raise the stakes (pun intended) to increase our emotional involvement.

And we’re here for that! Every show always has people who view it differently! That’s what makes it so great and so much fun to be able to discuss later on! -Hunter

2 Girls 1 Episode

Oh my favorite thing watching these shows as an adult has been seeing how the writers have cleverly disguised adult humor in them. -Hunter

As Rob Tapert said: “It’s like the very best of Disney films where don’t pick up the innuendo but it is indeed there.”

All the best shows are multi-layered and open enough to be viewed many different ways.

I think a part of what's holding you guys back from really enjoying the show, is that maybe you're viewing it to literally. The whole thing about this show is that the monsters are metaphors for the real life horrors of growing up. Especially in these first few seasons. The anti climactic and often corny ways they usually end up defeating the monster isn't really important. It's kind of aside from the the point. By the end of this season the show does become more serialised and the stakes definitely are raised and I think you'll start to enjoy it more. I'm kind of enjoying that you're not blown away by it at the moment, cause I have faith that you will be eventually. If you stick with it lol

Spike is evil but he is somewhat weird for a vampire as he is not driven by being evil for evils sake. He is driven by devotion. Drusilla is his north star. Sure it would be fun to kill the slayer, but not at the expense of not being around to take care of Dru. So he knows when to run. Its why he so quickly gave up Ford when Buffy even hinted at hurting drusilla. He's a loverboy...that just happens to be an evil, serial killer, that drinks blood for a living lol

I see what you did there. 😝
