As if killing your first person wasn't horrible enough. Now you have to be assaulted and impregnated with the Demon baby of all babies...

Gabrielle just can not catch a break lately. Killing someone. Giving birth. Sending your baby down a stream because your wife is hunting her down. What else could possibly go wrong at this point?

I miss when episodes had such insane over the top plot lines and art direction. Like the birth scene? 5 stars!

Xena always leaves Argo in Greece or around Greece. When they travel to a distand land or when they travel by ship Argo never goes with them. In this case they caugh a ship to go to Britannia and they are still in Britannia in this episode.

Fun facts about this episode: 1- This was the Halloween episode of the season and it was thinking about ideas for this episode that the whole Dahak/Rift idea was born. Originally was going to be another character giving birth to Hope; 2- The episode was directed by Charles Siebert and Andrew Marrifield but the birth scene was directed by Rob Tapert; 3- They used never seen before footage from the main title of Xena running near the ocean.

These two episodes do a great job of lulling the audience into thinking that Krafstar is a follower of some Christian-type religion, before turning it all around. And then the scene where Gabrielle gives birth is a totally F***d up version of a Christmas manger scene. I love it.

I remember watching this episode and being completely shocked. I thought "The Deliverer" episode was shocking, but this one takes the cake. Gabrielle...has a baby!!! And Then she lies to Xena about killing it. I feel so bad for Gabrielle because she had been through so much in the last episode and then this one...I do not blame Gabrielle for not killing her daughter. However..she was in the wrong for lying to Xena.

After my initial shock of it all and my instant urge to protect BOTH my girls, Gabrielle was 100% in the wrong for the lie. If she hadn’t lied, other things would have maybe gone a bit differently. But you’re right, she’s been through so much recently I can’t fault her for not being able to kill her. JUST DON’T LIE!!!! Ugh -Hunter

Gabrielle went surviver mode for her child in this episode and people that are in real instable situations do lie to survive. After all, she was a mother protecting her baby child. Gabrielle sees the good in everybody and she meant it when she said that she would help Hope fight against her dark side. And if Xena new Hope was alive she would kill her. However, Xena was in a tough spot in this two episodes too. She was being super pragmatic towards Gabrielle and Hope. And she was right. But she new how horribly her decision to kill Hope would affect Gabrielle and herself. So...none of them are wrong, it is just a huge tragedy in my opinion!🤯

I completely understand why Gabrielle did what she did and why she had to lie to Xena, but I still think she should have been honest, but that is just my opinion.

Previously on Xena Warrior Princess! S1E4 Cradle of Hope Gabrielle: Imagine sending a baby down a river! Xena: Maybe she had a reason. You're never going to be able to watch that episode the same way again! Not only did Xena know all about reasons why a mother might give up her baby but now so does Gabrielle. 😭

I love how Hunter went from "Why do you have wine, Tash?" to getting her own wine. These two episodes are a wild ride. I also love how Hunter can figure out where she has seen other characters. She will be calling them out much quicker in no time.

I love the Hope arc. But yeah - campy moments like this are few and far between during that whole storyline. Which is only appropriate I guess. I just love how she just walks away like it’s no big deal afterwards and all you see in the background is the two warriors struggling to pull it out thinking that if some random woman can do it, surely they can. 😂 See it’s moments like this where you can’t actually easily deny that Xena isn’t a demi-god. But then it’s so much more awesome that she isn’t and she still can do this insane shit. But Gabrielle wrote the Scrolls. Just to further explain to how CAMP Xena actually is. All in one episode they had the Knights Of The Round Table, Banshees, fucking Excalibur and Stonehenge… And it wasn’t even a comedy. And I must also point out that they only did this because the episode was set in Britain (Britannia)… and not in Greece or Rome. 😂😭 Thank you, R.J. Stewart.
