First of all, Kendra is awesome but we are CONFUSED (as per usual for me, Hunter). If there is another Slayer surely Buffy could now live her life out like normal since she "died" . I know Spike is probably still after her because he has a grudge against her, but the other monsters? Is it also the whole Hell Mouth thing?

And if that's the case, do people know they will be the Slayer from the day they are born or is it randomly assigned to someone one day when the other dies? Are we missing all of this lore because I swear we aren't but again I don't have the best receptive hearing when I'm watching things.

Don't come for us but we are just not enjoying it as much as we were hoping to. It might just not be for us. But if you guys want, we will finish the season out as planned. Let us know and as always, we appreciate each and every one of you that takes the time out to watch our reactions and have these conversations with us in the comments. We love you guys!!!

It's my own fault for continuing to watch these episodes when I ought to know by now that it's hopeless, but since I apparently lack self-control, I would be happy if you stopped posting them. They've become a little depressing. On the positive side, your starting Buffy inspired me to re-watch the entire series, which I haven't done in ages. I just finished season 5 and am continuing to enjoy one of my favorite shows.

Metalcruiser

No. You didn't miss any of the slayer lore stuff. I think at this point of the show even the writers/creators didn't know where to go with it exactly. There will be a lot more information about slayers, vampires (even with flashbacks). But at this time it was still a small production with a low budget. The creators had some good ideas but couldn't realise in season 2. So they had to wait for later seasons. I consider the second half of this season still as my favorite part of the whole show. So I would be happy if you at least finish the season.

I seem to recall someone saying the mission statement of this channel is to roast, react and judge the fuck out of shows... and you're certainly doing that! 💀 As for slayer lore, it's a bit hazy and open to interpretation. What is made clear by the end of the series is that throughout the world there are many girls who might someday be called as the Slayer and imbued with superpowers. There are musical ways of identifying these potentials and the Watchers Council sends Watchers out to keep an eye on them. The ones they are most certain of may receive training in martial arts, weapons etc or in some cases like Kendra, be given over to the Watcher to be raised entirely. Sometimes however a girl is called and it is a surprise to the Watchers who have to begin their training from scratch. Buffy's calling was a surprise, certainly to her and she did have a Watcher before Giles who was killed in LA before her moving to Sunnydale. His death and her expulsion from school leading to her strong reluctance to continue when we meet her in the first ep of S1. Generally most slayers only last for a few years so another one being called isn't that unusual. What is unusual is Buffy being resuscitated leading to this scenario where there are two of them. It sets other things in motion for later on but nobody within the world of the show quite knows what the implications are and the viewers are in the same position. NGL I'm not a lover of this 2 parter. There are some good moments but it's not a fave on a rewatch and feels like it was padded out to stretch it to two parts, just so they could get the cliffhanger with Kendra's reveal at the end of P1. The assassins are kinda nothing despite how much they are bigged up and only serve the purpose of tricking the audience into thinking Kendra is one of them. I like the scenes between Angel, Spike and Dru most because I never get tired of seeing just how much Spike and Angel hate each other and how she encourages it. Of the rest of the season, there are more good eps than the first half of the season imho. Plus the stakes gradually get higher. The next two, maybe not so much but 13, 14, 17, 21 & 22 are particular highlights. I still hope you'll come around to this show but if you don't and want the bullet points of what happens later in the show HMU.

Leslie M

I hope that didn't come across as too harsh. It's your show and you should do whatever you want, and I wouldn't have said anything if you hadn't asked. And honestly, you don't seem to be having any fun either.

TammyXE

TBH I'm not enjoying it either. In fact, I'm skipping it. I've only watched so far just to see you guys😀, who I love. Waiting for Xena!!

2 Girls 1 Episode

Not rude at all. We just know it isn’t fun to watch reactors not really loving a show you adore as much as we didn’t want to waste you guys time. We really tried to give it a shot but we just aren’t into it. And that’s okay, not everything is for everyone. -Hunter

Eddie

Im happy if yall finish the season! Buffy has only child syndrome. Kendra is the chosen one now and Buffy is an anomaly like a spare slayer. Think of Kendra as a slayer candidate, and her community could tell that she could be a slayer and they sent her to her watcher to train.

Mats Viktorsson

The show does get better once they get out of bloody high school (season 4). But I fully understand if you don´t have the patience. It´s not for everyone

Nathan Robertson

Hey. Love y’all and completely understand if you don’t vibe with the early episodes, but please please please at least finish out the season.

Nathan Robertson

Apologies. Apparently enter posts on mobile and doesn’t provide a paragraph space, so I’m gonna finish my thought here. Without giving away spoilers, you’re a couple episodes away from the show becoming Buffy as fans and TV critics know it. Early Buffy is very different and more like Fright Night: The Series. Then the show becomes darker, richer, more serialized and more character-driven. That arc is what the rest of the show and franchise as a whole is like. Buffy becomes more akin to Spider-Man: The Series. It’s the arc that resulted in the show getting more critical acclaim and higher TV ratings and a way bigger budget from here on out. If you don’t like the upcoming arc, then yeah. The show might not be for you. And that’s okay. Different strokes for different folks. But if you stop before that arc it’s more like dropping Xena after the five Hercules TV movies and 13 episode first season and before getting to Xena: Season 1 proper. So please at the very least finish the upcoming arc that makes up the rest of this season. You’re almost there, I swear to fuck. And you’ve both been absolute motherfucking troopers for making it this far despite (understandably in my opinion as I’m not a huge fan of the early episodes myself) not vibing with these early pre-“growing the beard” episodes.

Amiee Stahlman

I would like for you to finish the rest of this season. There are some great episodes that I think you'd like. There are still a couple episodes left that aren't that great, but the rest of them are great. These two episodes were silly I think.

Nathan Robertson

Or like The Evil Dead vs Evil Dead II/Army of Darkness/the Ash vs Evil Dead TV show. It’s important in that we wouldn’t have gotten the rest of it if it hadn’t come first. And you can kinda see vague hints of what the Ash-centered stuff would eventually become if you squint. But it’s just a whole other box of bananas with a completely different vibe and quality level compared to all the stuff that came after it. The first 24 episodes of Buffy are the Hercules: Season 1 & TV movies/OG Evil Dead movie of the Buffyverse.

Amiee Stahlman

Honestly, skip eps 11 and 12 and go straight to episode 13. Seriously, you don't get anything in those episodes that you can't live without and you will likely hate at least one of them. Episodes 13 and 14, though, change the whole vibe of the show. Many of the eps in season 2 aren't great until you get to the second half. For me back when it was on, I didn't actually get into it until then.

Girl4Music

Buffy: "That would be anger you're feeling." Kendra: "What?" Buffy: "You feel it, right? How the anger gives you fire? A Slayer needs that." Buffy got her there. Sounds like Kendra was groomed to be the Slayer from childhood. She doesn't know what it's like to have a normal life at all so she doesn't miss it. Buffy, however, does. That accent is total cultural appropriation though. I have to admit it. I very much doubt anyone of Kendra's culture sounds like that when they talk.

Girl4Music

You can see and hear the underlying misogyny of it can’t you, Tash? That might not be the only reason why it’s not for you but I can tell it’s one of them from the way you cringe or exasperate after a particular line is said. I totally get it. If you don’t want to continue with the show, you don’t have to. Hunter is right, a show is not for everyone and this one aged like milk regarding some of the more ethical and social-economical issues in it. I very much doubt that after Season 2 you’ll suddenly start liking it because it does have these problems all throughout. But nevertheless, I’m glad that you tried. Just don’t put yourself through more of it if you really don’t want to and move on to something you know that you will enjoy. We’ll still be here.

Girl4Music

I get the sentiment and I agree but I really don’t think it’s going to happen to be honest. We shouldn’t keep beating a dead horse. There is a show that’s very similar to Buffy but is arguably more thought out on the lore side of things. Wynonna Earp. Perhaps try that one if you already haven’t seen it.

2 Girls 1 Episode

Tbh i didn't think the underlying misogyny was a problem cause i've watched films and tv (especially during this time), with it and still loved them. But i do think you are right that it probably plays a role especially considering shes a young female lead created for impressional teenagers. But also yeah everything isn't for everyone, this show is beloved my millions and will continue to be, unfortunately on occassion there will be annoying idiots like me who don't. Regardless we appreciate you all for sticking with us and supporting us cause it means the world and we are forever grateful. - Tash

Girl4Music

Yeah, tell me about it. I’ve always said Buffy’s arc is the hardest to watch out of every character in this show for the simple fact that she just does not get a break. It might be the point but it’s a little much. Thanks for clarifying.

Nathan Robertson

I’d honestly be cool with them doing only “Surprise”, “Innocence”, “Passion” and “Becoming, Parts I & II” and then quitting. That’s really the core of the arc from the back half of the season, and it would very much tell them if they’d like the retooled version of the show or if even that isn’t for them. Which again is cool if they don’t vibe with the retooled version of Buffy and want to quit after that, but I just get so sad when I see reactors drop Buffy because they hate the pre-retool episodes or drop Evil Dead because they hated how bleak and SA the first movie was. They’re not indicative of the tone, style or content of the rest of their respective series at all.

2 Girls 1 Episode

We appreciate your comments and enthusiasm and understand you love this series, but there is a big difference between a 90min film in comparision to the rest of the franchise and watching 24 hours of a show to stick around hoping we will like more. (Not using Hercules as reference cause i've never watched it all the way through or seen any of the movies, haha). Unfortunately this series isn't for us and thats okay. We would rather split our time watching something we connect to. Our reactions really suffer watching Buffy cause we are holding back hoping not to offend the lovers of the series. Sorry if this isn't the outcome you would have liked but it's the best for us. We appreciate you sticking around and watching our reactions thus far, all the support you guys continuously show us is appreciated more than we can express. - Tash

Nathan Robertson

That’s fair. Thank you for giving it a go. I feel like most reactors would’ve dropped a show after one season if not only they weren’t vibing with it but also commenters were being buttholes about it on top of that. So I respect and thank you both for still pushing on for another half a season on Patreon. Even if you never react to the show again (Like ever ever. For all I know this was the last reaction.) try “Surprise” and “Innocence” on your own some day to see if the retooled version is something you’d want to watch off camera on your own unrelated to the channel. It hadn’t occurred to me until I Saw the TV Glow came out and Anthony Stewart Head died just how much this show meant to me as a queer autistic kid growing up in a physically and emotionally abusive home. That a found family of queer and autistic coded people who came from households like mine could find each other and a supportive surrogate father in Giles and a supportive surrogate mother in Joyce and not only not let their pain turn them into monsters but instead become superheroes who saved the world while helping others and even helping some villainous characters who did lose their way and become monsters due to their traumas find their way back to themselves again and become superheroes too. It was just extremely comforting and hopeful at a time when I needed it the most. Apologies for this rant. And it’s cool too if you never watch that two parter. But thank you for trying. And thank you for taking the time to respond to me. I appreciate you.

Gretam

I feel like if you're not enjoying it even a little by this point, then it's probably not gonna happen. I'm subbed for your xena reactions, but buffy being my favourite show, I'm watching these too, but at this stage I'm kind of just rage watching with you lol cause I can see your disdain for the show as your watch, so it's not really enjoyable lol Totally respect you guys for not putting on a fake reaction to please the fans and I get that buffy is not for everyone. So I'm in support of you dropping it if you feel like it's time. I will still be here hanging out for your delightful xena reactions :)

André

🤣 Tash, you killed it! I laughed my head off. I was waiting for some friends and, out of the blue, I just chose to see this Buffy reaction video, although I am not a fan of the show. I saw some episodes back in the day from diferent seasons trying to understand why people liked it so much only to conclued, like Tash, that it was not for me. The premise of the show is cool and Sarah Michelle Gellar did a fair good job but, for me, the show looks like a sitcom, the writing is weird and is full of boring stuff and characters. I feel that the Angel show was a bit better. Girls, don't do it anymore. This is your channel and we want to see you excited and happy in your reactions. It's fine!
