The boy who used to hate attention, who prefered to make himself as small and invisible as possible, who was unsure of everything and doubting all the time, now not only enjoying the attention but being confident in it, isnt being shy about voicing what he likes, wants, needs, flirting with his boyfriend in a public setting without getting all blushy about it. And the repetition of these scenes of them getting a little away from a party together shows how these scenes and they evolved each time. I keep repeating it but Charlie's evolution has been amazing to follow. And I can't wait for this confidence in himself boost to happen to Nick too.

I love that Nick can feel a little challenged by Charlie’s growth AND ALSO feel proud of him and in love with the confidence he has found. This is honestly one of the coolest things about healthy relationships. When one person grows, it inspires the other to do so. That can feel uncomfortable and uncertain at first, but most growth starts with discomfort. I think a lot of people bail on the relationship when they feel that discomfort, thinking they’ve “grown apart.” But so often it’s just a matter of leaning into the discomfort to see what it’s telling you about your growing edges, and letting yourself be in awe of your partner at the same time. And letting it inspire a stairway make out session sometimes, I guess! 😆

My daughter is an artist, she studied art at university, so I know how difficult it is to draw hands and for those hands to express feelings. I can feel Nick's hand on Charlie's knee or through his hair and Charlie's hand on the back of Nick's neck. It is a constant in the comic, the expression of his hands. Simply wonderful. And Charlie's look at Nick's lips......OMG!!!❤️

🥹I love how we get several pieces of what all is happening in this flirty, sweet moment…first, we have supportive Nick, teasing a slightly flushed Charlie while also being so genuinely proud of him, and we have our confident, newly elected and freshly super popular Head Boy Charlie, feeling comfortable enough to self assuredly and also humbly admit, “I kind of like the attention. It feels good. Just for a bit though…” These words show just how safe Nick and Charlie make one another feel…and how they KNOW there is no place either of them would rather be than right here, right now (and we could stop there because what a precious gift that is!) THEN, Alice drew more pieces (and I am always a sucker for well drawn hands…they often express so much more than words could and that is exactly the case in these panels). We have a piece of Nick’s hand resting softly on Charlie’s (pirate) knee, making sure they are grounded and physically close, and then, we get the tender close ups of both of their hands with Nick wrapping his hand in Charlie’s curls and Charlie placing his hand just so to hold the back of Nick’s head…these intimate holds are so soft and vulnerable, expressing a growing sparkle, that culminates in that last panel where they are staring deep into each other’s eyes, silently saying, “I love every piece of you.” I mean, is there any better kind of connection than to be unconditionally seen and loved? Because that is where Nick and Charlie are right now✨ (And I’m going to freeze them right here for a bit because it’s just so precious. Never mind there is a raging party just down the hall☺️❤️). This page right here, with all these pieces of them, that’s the glue of Nick and Charlie: I see and love every piece of you.
