Fair reason tbh

Ulises

Nick’s face 🥺

tjsw

amazing page alice! love the costumes <3

Malcolm Grant

Good to see Charlie managing his life reduce stress.

Siska

Aw poor Nick 🤭

zara ahmed !!

charlie’s about to tell nick the only reason he joined the team was to be with nick 😭 and fluster him HSJSKJS

Allegra2346

Awww, Nick is gonna miss him :(

Sarah Jacobs

Awww I totally get Charlie's point but Nick's gonna be so sad not being able to flirt while playing rugby 😔 what a hardship 🤣🥰❤️🍂

Nikki

Whilst Nick looks disappointed not to have Charlie at rugby anymore I LOVE Charlie foreseeing how stressful everything could become and he’s taking action to stop that happening to himself 🫶

Chloe ♡

i love charlie’s face in the last panel

Brittney

I can understand Charlie's decision because especially being head boy, it's going to be a lot of time keeping everything so full ahead

PossumBiNight

It’s good that charlie knows to balance things and take care of himself now!

Des Red

Not only that's super okay and understandable, it's also super healthy and mature to approach it this way. I love the way the story is being painted so much <3

springy

i get it but nicks face is so sad 😭😭

Lotta HR 🩷

Nick everything gonna be alright 🩷🩷

Katie H

I wasn't expecting this but I'm glad Charlie is trying to control the things in his life to help reduce stress

Desi23

That's fair but Nick ohh pour baby he is gonna miss Charlie a lot!

Chris

But we all know that his hobby was not really rugby tho 😜

shpepanie

Planning ahead and prioritizing 💜💜💜 well done Charlie!

Chloe ♡

‘one of your hobbies’ nick… i don’t think it was a hobby to begin with….

Noah

‘hobby’ yeah hobby of staying with nick more 😭😭😭

Merel

I'm glad Charlie realised this and doesn't end up burning out. He strikes me as the kind of person who never wants to give up, but sometimes it's okay to quit something if you know it might become too stressful. It's good to see Charlie take care of himself this way.

Charlie

Oh thank god!! And I’m glad Charlie isn’t sacrificing himself to please others. Knowing his limitations and doing his best to reduce stress. Well done Charlie!! That’s a massive step. 🥰

Ryan N

well done Charlie for knowing his limits and how much is healthy to take on!

Carina

I think the hobby was actually you Nick, not rugby 😆

Noemiette

Ooooh didnt see that one coming but it is good. And while it is good to practise some sport, it wasnt really a big hobby for Charlie (i do think he enjoyed some parts of it but he never would have joined a rugby team on his own). It was just something he joined to spend time with Nick. If that's what Charlie is gonna say to Nick, it's not gonna help him not stress over his current struggles. To see Charlie continuing to be more and more his own person and starting to detach himself from things he kinda did just to be near Nick

Allegra2346

at least he doesn't have to give up his favourite hobby, smoochin his boyfriend 😜

Emma

It's a lot of change for Nick at once 😩 You've got this be gentle with yourself 🩷

BEL

Well I think, Nick, this is actually more one of your hobbies, not Charlie’s. Charlie is only in the team to spend more time with his boyfriend, but now he realizes he doesn’t need that time (they spend every other moment they can together) and his interests do lie elsewhere. Poor Nick, he really is now showing his insecurity and lack of confidence at the idea of Charlie not always being around. But he will get there too - find himself and his independence, without needing his Charlie-prop. They can be together and apart at the same time! Have confidence Nick

reece

Does nick know why Charlie joined rugby…? Hahah the hobby is nick not the sport 🤠

Jay

Oh, it makes sense. but also it’s the end of an era for them as “rugby lads” together 😭 but wait, was it really Charlie’s hobby though? Didn’t he just do it to be more with Nick? 🥺

lexi

i think it's very healthy for them to have their own activities that aren't together. obviously it's lovely for them to be able to spend time together but charlie having head boy duties be something he does alone and nick having rugby his own separate interest is a really nice way for them to remain individuals instead of morphing into one codependent blob the way a lot of high school couples do. especially with nick struggling to find a sense of self and not having been in that sporty laddish space without charlie since coming to terms with his sexuality. him actually being able to figure out who he is without charlie is so important!

Jo S

Phew!😮‍💨 sad for Nick but glad it’s nothing more serious! It shows Charlie is taking his new role and responsibilities very seriously and wants to make a difference- that is his main focus now! Also pleased that he has the foresight to consider his mental health and how his new role may affect him! Good for voicing what you need Charlie!! And I’m sure Nick will understand although I bet he will miss Charlie being part of the team

Claire

Makes sense for Charlie - a good decision - he does not need to have too much on. (Nick - that hobby was all for you anyway!) I am sure Nick will miss Charlie at practice. I am also sure the head student will want to try and show their support for the rugby team though and get to most matches.

Tina

charlie is gonna be like "hobby? nick, rugby was my chat up line"

Ania W.

Charlie's face in the last panel says it all. Hobbies... oh my god I appreciate your sense of humor Alice.

toneelspeler

I applaud Charlie's self preservation here so much but gosh, it also hurts to perhaps realize that a shared hobby wasn't actually a hobby both of them just did for the love of the hobby!

Jo S

Nick still has hold of the horse!! 🐴 👏

Caitlin

Surprised he stuck to rugby this long tbh, I would have quit as soon as the man was secured lol

Eileen

Taking care of his mental health by saying no to something like that is a big milestone. Charlie has come so far.

Faye

Did Nick ever find out why Charlie said yes to rugby?

ucfnurse

That’s such a great idea to rearrange and organize your priorities, yay Charlie!!☺️😊🙌💞💜☀️🌼🦉⚽️🥅🏪😃✌️🕊️☮️

Christie

Less time together 😢💜

Sabrina

I have a feeling like Nick got the wrong impression that Charlie enjoys rugby as much as him and that it’s actually one of Charlie’s hobbies. I feel like he was kinda projecting his hobby onto his boyfriend and actually didn’t realize that Charlie joined rugby for him 🙈

Blissnfaith

We all know Charlie is going to be fangirling field side for his boyfriend and wearing a Nelson 10 rugby shirt. Nick’s gonna realize the benefits soon 🤭

Dionne Lakey

Nick holding on to that hobby-horse idea is funny (see what you did there Alice). Let's pretend Charlie does rugby as a hobby.

Oliver

Ohhhhhhh yeah that makes sense

Marie

Oh Nick 😭 You deserve the world. I hope you’ll realize this soon

Ann-Marie Still

Is this the first time Charlie has made a decision for himself that is born out of positivity and personal growth? I know he quit rugby before and verbally put Ben on his arse, but that was to get out of a bad place. This is him really putting himself and his passion first. I am so, so proud of him. I hope Nick sees that for what it is and doesn't take it personally.

Justin S.

Starting to feel that bit of pull. Change/growth is uncomfortable, Nick but you both can handle it 💖

Kristen

Bless Nick’s heart. He’s probably thinking of every memory they’ve made revolving around Rugby and all the ones that will be missed…just spinning in that sensitive brain of his. Our sweet rugby lad!

E

I assume Nick will need a moment to mourn the absence of his boyfriend at practice, but from then on he will suddenly be about 200 % more focused at rugby practice again. 😁

Jo Mary

Loving Charlie in this new page Alice he’s just amazing x

Sarah Parker-Shemilt

Yep, Nick also has more things to himself, which will be good in the long run. Also, this doesn't stop Charlie from supporting Nick at matches (similar to how Nick went to Charlie's band gig!).

NellieSayzBork

Oh Nick...he's so sad. Even less time with Charlie!!

RCM

Externally: Oh…. Internally: I mean, Charlie IS going to have more responsibilities on him…that added pressure could add up and I don’t want him to be too stressed But it sucks that it’s the rugby team he’s giving up He loves rugby. And I love being on the team with him (cue quick memory flashes of knowing glances, subtle passing touches, kisses in the equipment room, shared pride for playing well…) He’s leaving the one hobby we do together. He’s leaving the one hobby I have (do I have more than one hobby?) and now love more because he plays alongside me. I kind of feel weird, maybe a little sad, a little empty, kind of like he is giving up a little of us, of me…but this isn’t about me, it’s about Charlie… Externally: Well, it sucks you have to give up one of your hobbies.

Sarah 🤍

look at charlie putting himself first for once! i’m sure nick will be understanding but i have a feeling he’ll start internally catastrophising because he wants to make the most of their time together since he’ll be going to a uni that’s far away, and he probably see’s rugby as a good excuse to see charlie every day and now he’s losing that….

Andrew Pitonack

poor Nick he looks so sad, but this makes sense, wheew, I feel better now. Look at Charlie putting himself first, and more importantly realizing his limits.

Ciara

Awww well done charlie! I hope Nick doesn’t start worrying about their lack of time together though 😭

ally

awhhh good for charlie for knowing what he can and can’t handle !!

Ameya

I'm loving over the past few pages, we can see just how Charlie is doing better and is coming from a good headspace just in the details of his facial expressions compared to the previous volume. So happy for him! I know this will be an adjustment for Nick but... They'll work through it. ☺️

Indy ten Hoor

i dont like this plottwist :( (im joking)

ACxo

Im glad Charlie is putting himself first and knows what is making him overwhelmed now and is making sure he isn’t taking on to much! I hope Nick can adjust to this change okay 🥺

EC

I think his hobby was “an excuse to hug Nick Nelson” so not really giving that up 🥰

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

"His hobby"!?!? Really, Nick. He just wanted an excuse to have you carry him around all sweaty like. Do it in your own free time 🤭🤭🤭

Ashley Robinson

Oh this is good. Multiple plot points moved with just one page. Love it Alice!

S

Wait but in Nick and Charlie doesn’t it say that two rugby guys come up to Aled? And everyone assumed it was Nick and Charlie?

Beam Bugge

that was a wise decision Charlie! don't burn yourself out (especially since we know what happens if you get too stressed out, and we don't want you to go back there)

Beam Bugge

also love how alice is liking all the comments about charlie's hobby not being rugby, but rather being nick 🤭🤭 does nick not know that that was the reason he joined in the first place?

Beam Bugge

it looks like nick is mostly concerned about not being able to spend that much time with charlie anymore, which makes sense, since he's about to leave for university and will probably take all the time with charlie that he can get while he still can

Loveislove

I think rugby had its moments - it helped build the bond between Nick and Charlie and it gave Charlie some physical confidence too. That pushback to Ben may not have happened without it on the TV series. Everyone has already well stated that Charlie is making excellent choices for himself. Rugby is Nick's passion and his future as a semi pro player. Now is the time for him to really commit to it. I have been wondering if he will increase his training and practice so he can make the Leeds team.

Ania W.

Don't remember this scene from the novella Nick and Charlie. However, on Radio Silence Nick was described as a former rugby captain and Charlie as a former Head Boy if I remember correctly

Loveislove

It will be interesting to see if Nick becomes part of Charlie's anti bullying team. Some might interpret that as a reverse situation where Nick just wants to spend time with Charlie. But I think our bisexual golden retriever would be a genuinely wonderful addition to the team and awaken some of those coaching/teaching aspirations.

Loveislove

And let's take a moment to sympathize with Coach Singh having to again hear Charlie leave the team - although this time for healthy reasons ☺️

Jordan

Omg that sentence “giving up a little of us, a little of me” 😭 I feel like 18 year old Nick could definitely have that intrusive thought

Jordan

I feel like we’ve seen a little sketch of Charlie in his school uniform jumping into Nick’s arms after a game, Nick wearing his little captain badge, them not playing together but happy together nonetheless…that that is the future we are heading towards 🥹

Loveislove

Love that Charlie holds on to Nick as he tells him the news and Nick is gripping horsey hard. Love that Charlie uses a declarative sentence - I'm quitting - not maybe or I'm thinking of...He is confident and sure of his decision and sharing this with his partner knowing he will be supported. Love that Nick's hobby remark is sure to be followed by the return of sassy Charlie clearing up Nick's confusion on why Charlie joined and rejoined the rugby team 😉

Molly Goat

Yeah that was in Radio Silence and not Nick and Charlie. Towards the beginning of the book I believe.

James

100% this. Also I'm reminded about the tv-universe Nick in s2 talking about the only thing his dad knows about him is that he likes Rugby. Maybe Nick's starting to question if this — and the fact he's Charlie' boyfriend — is all there is about him. That's totally and obviously not true, but he's feeling insecure at the moment and possibly listening to these sorts of thoughts and believing them slightly. 😥

boombroadcast

Oh I love this for Charlie! Taking a step back *before* he gets overwhelmed and burnt out, teenage me could have never. This definitely sounds like a wise choice, I know somewhere Geoff is cheering! (Maybe Jane too. That precious brain is gonna be a lot better protected. 🙌) But Nick… surely you knew playing rugby, whilst probably something Charlie came to sort of enjoy in itself, was never one of his honest passions? He just liked spending time with you engaging in one of yours. 😬 Actually Charlie wasn’t really spending any time on extracurriculars he was truly passionate about. And now he’s got both his head boy gig and Queer Intentions. Which is amazing! He might have to reassure Nick a bit that this means they’ll get to keep cheering each other on in their respective “hobbies,” AND spend more time of their time together doing things they both actually enjoy. Also… I know comic!Charlie never actually quit rugby like TV!Charlie did, but he did have to take a break during his hospitalization. In any event it’s nice to see him stepping away this time for himself, and for a positive and proactive reason, not (misguidedly) for Nick, or out of absolute necessity.

James

Like everyone else has said, Rugby was never the huge passion for Charlie that it so clearly is for Nick. He wouldn't have joined in a million years if it wasn't for his crush, and staying meant they could spend time together. But that said, I do wonder if a part of him did actually genuinely enjoy it — both to play but also surprising himself that he was actually good at it, especially in comic-book universe where he seems to take to it really quickly in chapter 1 and perseveres with it when his mental health is at its worst in ch6.

Loveislove

Ack, yes, I frequently suffer from comic series/tv series mind meld. Thank goodness Alice is guiding both lol 😆.

Beam Bugge

now I'm imagining Charlie overthinking how Coach Singh will react, nervous that she might be upset, but then she just goes "yeah no I get it you're too busy making the school a safer place for gay people, please continue being a hero"

OSM

I think Nick is going to find this difficult. He has already said he doesn't know who he is without Charlie, and everyday Charlie is getting stronger and more independent.

Ariel

🍂💕 they're growing and changing and I'm here for it! 🥰

Nils

Smart choice for Charlie. Glad to see that he is able to set boundaries and make sure he isn't overwhelmed. But I feel sorry for Nick. He has his own issues and now his boyfriend is quitting the very thing that brought them together. Some anxiety incoming. But as Elle said earlier. It might help him not to be with Charlie all the time.

Scott Whittall

Is that all? Wheeeewww!! So it's a positive thing. Char is prioritizing and ]preemptive stress relieving. Besides Nick, you are Char's hobby and life. You are the Rugby King.

Sarah

Wait until Nick finds out Charlie’s hobbie was spending time with him, not rugby 🫢

Carmen

I think Nick is feeling like he is losing Charlie slowly and also with uni

Ana Alicia Aranda De Contreras

No Charlie, you can hardly see Nick anymore, that sucks 😭 But it's a good thing so you can make a change so that no student suffers what you suffered again😔

Anna Deligio

Oh, Nick. Growth opportunity ahead. ❤️ Proud of Charlie for taking care of himself like this. Now Nick gets to learn that Charlie's love for him is stronger than their rugby connection and can withstand Charlie being more busy and independent. ❤️

Evergreen

This is something that happens to couples (and family, and friends) throughout life as we grow. I know a couple who are going through it right now in their 60s. One is taking on new, exciting hobbies and interests and has had to let go of a weekly outing she used to do with her spouse. He feels a little left behind because he was feeling pretty comfortable and content the way things were. I've been there with close friends who got really busy with new interests, and I've probably been that friend/spouse/family member before. I love that Alice is addressing this, because if we don't recognize and care for our feelings about this kind of thing, it can lead to bitterness, resentment, and separation. When instead it could result in us celebrating our partner's growth, supporting their newfound passions, and doing some healthy self-reflection on our own interests and identity. I can't wait to see how Nick and Charlie grow through this, even if there are rocky parts along the way!

Murgy

Its a shame but it makes sense. And yes it does suck, but it sometimes it what has to be done. Though I'm sure he'll still come and see you in matches and stuff so its not like he's out of that part of your life forever. You're not loosing him to the role, but it will still change things a bit. And yes it sucks you will be spending less time with Charlie in theory, it'll likely work out to be a similar amount, just doing different things together.

CinD

Sad but it makes sense ☹️

Bryn

shoutout to charlie for knowing his limits and setting boundaries

Ada Suzany

It wasn't me who guessed hueheuhe. But we'll done Char, you need to prioritize your activities to prevent burnout ❤️ Thanks Alice, have a greeeeat day ✨️

Cliff

Someone guessed it right! I suspect Charlie will let Nick know that the only thing he’ll miss about rugby will be the extra opportunities to hang out with his boyfriend.

Vicki Lewis

Come on Nick, you are his hobby haha he only played rugby to be near you 🥰 I love how Nick says that about his hobby like he don’t know

Laura Humber

It feels like they have swapped roles, Nick is so anxious bless him I felt so much like him at that age. I lived through my boyfriend and didn't know who I was on my own x

JP42

Really interesting transition for both of them. Cool story element to create another challenge that pushes Nick into finding his more adult self and relationship.

Idaemilie

It makes sense. You never do things half hearted Charlie that’s for sure❤️. And rugby was a “Nick mission” and no….mission accomplished ✔️🤭 So now you need to focus on a team that is so important for you and for other students❤️ You got this Charlie👏🏼❤️ 😜🤭 And maybe you and Nick can do other «hobby things» together in your spare time. “It’s just a suggestion” X

Faye

Ig there gonna have to get used to not seeing each other as much also because Nicks gonna to going to college soon

Abigail Sheetz

yea makes sense. proud of charlie for doing this! he knows what he needs and he’s confident in his choices. but nick darling, cutie pie. charlie was only on the rugby team for you baby 😭

RCM

I keep coming back to look at the details shared in the drawings today...I've been kinda worried about Nick all day...In the first panel, somehow our boys have managed to find a moment of total solitude in the kitchen which makes me think the noise coming from the dance floor room must be SO loud, creating this weird vacuum of awkward quiet/not quiet for them...and I love how in the first panel Nick is moving his horsey away to maybe really open up his arms and pull Charlie close, but, mid move, Charlie tells him his news. Then, we get that zoom in of Nick, clearly surprised and a bit shocked, as he can only stare straight ahead, caught in this surreal moment as his thoughts try to catch up to Charlie's words, all while the muffled music blares into their quiet kitchen space. The third panel is so hard to see... Nick just asks WHAT? WHY? because that is literally all he can get out...and I get the feeling that he doesn't really hear Charlie's reasoning because his own brain is spinning as it tries to process the change that is coming to them...to him. Charlie is pretty hyperfocused on his own explanation (you can even see his face in the third panel is still bright and carefree) that it takes him a minute to take a breath, and look up at Nick. And when he does in that 4th panel, Charlie carries a worried expression as he notices Nick isn't making eye contact. And Nick is falling back into his "sure, it's okay, kind of sucks" modus operandi with an attempted smile that isn't really a smile (because it's more than about Charlie playing rugby but Nick isn't there yet...)The mood has shifted...and the music still blares, but the kitchen has gotten even quieter...🥺

Ky

he’s gonna admit he only joined to see nick lmao

moon

there’s something so devastating yet equally heartwarming to know that nick thinks charlie was on the team for his own genuine entertainment 😭

Ashley Robinson

Also pretty cool bc it seems to be Charlie made a decision on his own. Big growth.

vivian jacobo

Charlie my baby I’m happy you made a decision that you think is necessary for you 🥺

Robert

I think Nick needs a reassuring Charlie kiss and hug.

Elora (EeveeCollectorElora)

We spent so many volumes being worried about Charlie and now I’m worried about Nick 😢

Juliette

Ohhh Nick looks so sad...

Neenie

Charlie living his best life and setting boundaries but Nick’s the one terrified of being left behind
