Nick and Charlie kissing while getting/giving the ribbing/finger to/from Christian, Sai and Otis is so cute and bodes so well for all their friendships. Charlie looks so great taking initiative with his Head Student duties. Nick looks like he has a range of emotions including pride, love, nostalgia, sadness, apprehension and other feelings flashing across his face but it also looks like he and Charlie have settled into a lovely and comfortable rhythm of life together!

Nick has a lot on his mind, not only for his own life but for his life with Charlie, too. A conversation is brewing, but I don’t think he knows what he needs to say yet. He’ll get there 😌 I remember those few months right before the end of school when you didn’t yet know where you were going to college. Everything about the future was ‘pending’. Love the energy emanating from the first panel - love, affection, safety, inclusion, humour 🥰. Feeling concerned about Nick's continuing inertia with Charlie. It's been at least a month of these stares although we don't know how the summer was. I am still unsure what Nick is feeling. Is this about uni and leaving, is it a consequence of the election and feeling left aside or unworthy, is it something else or a combination? Nick may not be able to work it out or start the conversation or be hesitant to "bother" Charlie when he is thriving. I hope Charlie catches one of these horrible stares again soon and realizes something is up. He is Nick's person ❤️‍🩹

Love that first panel! That being said, watching Nick stare at his phone, and then at Charlie working, has the mom in me stressed. Having just witnessed firsthand two US university application cycles with my kids, I googled UK application deadlines. Um, Nicholas, isn't it time to get cracking on that personal statement? Unfortunately, I could totally see the application process as the instigating event in a mental health mini crisis... trying to simultaneously capture your identity in writing (in a way that makes the uni want to admit you) and determine which course/ future you want to pursue? Ugh. Hard!

Agreed - I think too that he carries a lot of insecurities from his childhood although Sarah did her best. That may be a driving force making him underestimate his ability to independently cope with challenges or accept his own strengths and value. His default and deep empathetic nature is to cheerlead and support others rather than see his own positives and build self confidence. He'll get there!

✨WOLF WHISTLE for the win✨ I mean, how can you not love the supportive teasing from the (slightly envious) rugby lads, and Nick's "idgaf" response is PERFECT...I couldn't help but giggle with a "yes, Nick!" THEN, we get to the next 3 panels in Nick's kitchen, and my heart sang seeing the title of the powerpoint (Truham, buckle up because things will never be the same, thanks to your new bad ass Head Boy!). There is something so symbolic in these panels though...it's like seeing part of the past and glimpses of the future, in real time. This reminded me of when Nick came to Charlie's to study in Volume 1, and Charlie was super into his maths homework, while Nick was BORED with it, and the wrestling match ensued. Like now, Nick was experiencing uncertain sensations ( again, that he didn't yet understand, and couldn't quite articulate, even to himself) ...I also get an into the future glimpse of them here by the setting and attire Alice choose to draw them in. Charlie is at the table with his laptop (too important work for him to be laying on the floor) wearing a button up shirt and cardigan, while Nick stands at the counter, "busy" 👀 on his phone, also wearing a button up collared shirt. It seems to represent the maturing of their relationship where they still LOVE to kiss and such, but don't feel that time pressure of constantly having to make the most of their limited time together by being physically intimate. They can just BE together, doing literally anything. And the last panel of just Nick...it feels like a portrait capturing his full on adoration and in awe mode of Charlie. It is like if he could only focus hard enough, they could just freeze time right here and right now (and not have to think about uni, or leaving, or growing up, or (the worst) not seeing Charlie everyday....nope, nope...back to freezing time)...
