I'm so happy seeing Charlie's growth and him getting some autonomy, but it does cut down on Nick-and-Charlie time and thus makes it harder for Nick to open up to him. I hope these boys find a balance that works for them soon :(

it’s like we can see nick’s side about everything and i think that this is special, because we know what charlie feels about things (aka on nick and charlie) and seeing how things are coming for nick is like WOW. And i love this presentation of nick, that he isn’t and HE CANT BE the golden retriever all the time, it’s like ☹️❤️‍🩹

I’ve mainly been interpreting this storyline as Nick feeling anxious about impending separation bc of uni and we see that there’s a need for him to “individuate” from Charlie and become more settled in himself. I wonder if Charlie is also feeling some of this anxiety at this point and both of them are pretending everything is ok 🥺 so far we haven’t seen the part from N&C about Charlie having anxiety about Nick leaving for new exciting horizons and his fear that he will be left behind. But I can totally imagine Charlie might subconsciously be putting up a distance because he’s scared too 😢 The plot is so good!!!

Since Nick is in a bit of a mini spiral now - this is going to get him down much more than it should. Then I think Nick might start to withdraw from Charlie a little bit too - thinking he is doing what Charlie wants - and that is not really going to help at this point. I wonder how much time will pass until the next scene?

OK what did I miss, Alice? I have read everything. All Heartstopper there is to read (and daily new pages.. LOL), Solitaire, This Winter, Nick & Charlie, I was Born for This, Loveless, and Radio Silence. Having that said....what shift is Char talking about? Did I forget where he works? Nick really needs Char. They do not have to talk, watch movies, study, or do anything, really. Char is his comfort blanket. His touchstone. His everything. And there is nothing wrong with someone completing you. But ya gotta talk when you are feeling lost. And who better to talk with than your person. Spit it out, Nick. Thanks to you, Charlie is a strong and confident lad. He loves you more than anyone or anything. Put your hearts together and your mind at ease.

In N&C we learn he has a part time job in a cafe (2020 version) and in a clothes shop (2015 version). IIRC it's so he can save up money so he can travel to see Nick next year.

It is interesting we are not seeing Charlie's viewpoint at all throughout these pages. Is he working very hard to show Nick he will be fine when he is away at uni even though he is falling apart inside??? Hmmm🤔 And this approach is making Nick feel alone and unnecessary in the relationship unintentionally? i feel so sad for nick lately… he’s just not speaking up about how he feels and it’s going to hurt him in the long run :( unfortunately, his stress makes a lot of sense. he’s always been nick “perfect-popular-cool-rugby captain-friends with everyone” nelson, so it’s going to be such a tough journey for him to realize he is allowed to ask for help and feel sad. he probably tells himself “i need to just get over it and be strong for charlie” but i hope charlie comes around and shares some of his coping mechanisms, or helps him reach out to people who can help him :( i don’t want to think this but i do wonder if him and charlie will have a fight before charlie realizes how much nick has been struggling… it would make sense… agh 😅

I’m not sure he’s even figured out what he’s feeling. He’s so used to putting everyone else’s needs first that he doesn’t even spend much time thinking about his own. It’s a people pleaser cycle. It won’t end well for him, unless someone notices and points it out

I'm curious about the same thing! With the emphasis on Nick and jumps in time we've actually gone a while without hearing that much from Charlie (which to us the reader I guess helps us feel the new 'distance' Nick's feeling rn) But how's Charlie really doing? I'm genuinely curious... I don't want to assume he's already in the headspace of the Novella (part of me always felt the imminence of Nick's departure and the online comments went a good way to triggering that and this could still be to come) but at the same time I can't believe he's also not had his own doubts, fears and anxieties too, even if at a lower level than in the past. But you could be on to something about protecting Nick. Charlie will WANT what's best for Nick, even if that means moving away. And maybe when he finally grasps how Nick's been feeling insecure about himself and his future he'll think Leeds is even more important. But that doesn't mean he won't be petrified of Nick leaving and him being left behind. Or that he cannot discuss this! Oh these two...

I would really love it if Nick could talk to the girls or his mum but maybe he doesn’t know what he’s feeling . I hope he can throw himself into rugby and we know from the Nick and Charlie novel that Nick does get to be really excited about uni. They just need to work through this together and sometimes you need support from your friends too .

Maybe I’m just feeling that, depression may not be the right word for him, but sadness that Charlie doesn’t need him anymore. I just can feel Nick’s heart hurting. It’s the beautiful way Alice shows us the way Nick is feeling by his facial expressions, the lack of confidence in his posture, the missing smiles and even his love of rugby isn’t there right now. We aren’t seeing Charlie’s point of view. Is he not missing alone time with Nick? When they are together he seems distracted by his new head boy responsibilities. I just want those incredible moments between them and Nick seems to be longing for them too.

You’re probably right, I’m just surprised with it quickly approaching that they’ll be miles away from each other that he wouldn’t want to spend as much time as possible. I’m actually also a bit surprised with all he has going on that he would get a job. That was a big mistake I made in high school was getting a job. It was too much. I’m curious why he decided to work. I don’t remember it saying in any of the books why.

I love how we have had several parallels to past events already, and now, how today's post feels like a window into the future...I can just see Nick at uni, finishing up after rugby practice, and the first person he wants to talk to??? Charlie, of course! And Charlie will be doing all the things his last year at Truham...and these little moments of "love you xxxxxxx," "talk later❤️❤️❤️❤️", and "dw, xxx" will be their new normal. Texting to catch up from their day. Regrounding and recharging but only with words until they can visit and get those much needed hugs (always hugs first, right?!)...Same them, but different, too, which is a theme we are seeing and I personally think IS (well, WILL BE), a good thing. BUT (there's that pesky but again!), the problem with seeing a glimpse of the future is when YOU, Nick Nelson, are in a present place that you love and adore and don't really WANT to change. It makes you want to hold tighter to every moment in the present, like having your boyfriend come round your house as much as possible...but when he's busy because, of course he is doing so many good things between work and school and Head Boy, and you love that and are so proud of him...and you don't want him to worry, especially about YOU, but you go home, not quite ready to look at that blank piece of paper asking for your "personal statement," so you procrastinate, and avoid, and remind yourself that you are fine, you have time.................

they definitely won’t grow apart, but we can see that alice is slowly incorporating the insecurities that nick and charlie have about being separated. mainly nick atm for when he’s away at uni or for this instance, charlie being at work and not be able to drop everything and be with him like he used to. i can definitely see as time in the comics progress we can see the setup for the nick and charlie novella story line. i am excited tho to see how that would be portrayed in comic form

The novella ripped my heart to pieces. If there’s a season 4 that’s going to be hard to watch. I just really want to see where Alice is going with this though because I’m surprised Charlie hasn’t noticed Nick is not the same. I thought when he looked at him in the kitchen he was going to bring it up. They’re not as in sync right now. Nick needs to tell Charlie how he’s feeling because I just don’t see Charlie initiating the much needed conversation. I trust Alice and the story so I know it will get resolved.
