We haven't seen Charlie's bedroom in quite a while. I went back and checked, and he definitely redecorated 😁 He used to have a bookcase right next to his bed. (Unless that was left out here to give the texts more space?) But this dresser, the lamp and the radio have been there since the beginning :)

I know Alice already pointed it out but my boy Charlie definitely notices more than we give him credit for… I love that he keeps checking in is subtle but I been clocking it since page 1647. Nick has just not been ready to open up. Also idk why in particular, maybe seeing how grow up Charlie looks, but this page made me a little teary eyed 🥹

Yup, I forgot that it's different in the comics. We haven't seen this part of Charlie's bedroom for a long time. They spend more time at Nick's, and when we do see Charlie in his bedroom it's almost never from this perspective.

Charlie sitting on his bedroom floor is giving me flashbacks to Volume 1 when he was wondering if he was reading "signs" from a very cute Nick Nelson right, and they began their initial texting back and forth (about Ben Hope of all things) as Charlie sat in the exact same spot (albeit a little less sure of himself then). The parallels and flashbacks this volume have made me tear up so much...we keep having a 'they're the same, but different' theme❤️‍🩹. But, now, Charlie is having some space to be still other than talking to Nick. He hasn't had a lot of downtime that we've seen yet, and now that he does, the puzzle pieces are clicking into place...all the seemingly innocuous "what will I do without you," and "I don't know who I am," lol/ha ha statements are making sense now...Charlie has always had a strong intuition about his friends and especially about Nick...and here, Nick is CLEARLY doing his guilt based cycle of "mustn't bother others with my problems because I don't want to burden anyone else, not even Charlie...because I'm fine" bit. Turning down seeing Charlie?! ALARM BELLS...we know Nick and Charlie want what is best for each other (and that they bring out the best in each other!)...we also have seen all the work Charlie has done on himself to be able to want what is best for himself too. Nick...hasn't. And, Nick is currently at a place where he CAN'T think about it because it's buried under all of his other priorities (Charlie, being there for Charlie, his mum, rugby, being the Captain and leading the team, etc). Somewhere down there is a little boy, scared to really be vulnerable, scared to speak his fears aloud, because what if doing so makes them come true? (like his dad leaving?!). He's also been labeled a "good boy, responsible and considerate, a gentle but effective leader by example," and while he is all those things...he's also a human who has harder feelings too, and needs to learn he can be both vulnerable and strong, and anxiety and fear are all things that need to be talked about...go hug your boy, Charlie🫂

Charlie's text to Nick is putting the focus on Nick and caretaking him. Cuddles are something Nick would never turn down. Remember his reaction to Charlie's suggestions at the Halloween party? This time there are multiple nos, a deflection away from them as a couple and instead an insistence that Charlie needs to take care of himself as an individual. This is actually very self destructive stuff. Nick is devaluing himself in the relationship and withdrawing. It foreshadows a mentality that could sink to what we see in the novella when Charlie instigated the fight with Nick. Nick is losing perspective. But all good - Charlie is on his way over!!!! Right????
