Charlie's face in the last panel suggests he definitely knows something is up. Maybe this will turn into a conversation about whether Nick is happy as well. I know he loves making Charlie happy, but his own happiness shouldn't rely entirely on that of Charlie. What brings Nick joy, what are his passions outside of his people pleasing tendencies? I hope he gets to explore that part of himself in the future, it will be an important part of his journey. Difficult, but necessary.

Well - maybe Charlie's surprise/confusion on the last page was not in reference to Nick talking about them living together but about him initiating a new sexual position. Looks like Nick is refusing to let himself be "fixed" by Charlie and determined to be the one to make Charlie happy. But, of course, Charlie isn't going to be happy when his partner is...to put it mildly...a complete mess. I predict this lovemaking session comes to an end, hopefully not angrily on Nick's side. It is a lovely page -- I cannot say why this is one that really has brought tears to my eyes. Charlie is working out more and more that something is wrong. Nick is a very giving person and wanting to make your partner happy is important in a relationship. But hopefully Charlie can help him to realise that being too much of a people pleaser is not nesscessary -- that he does not need to be perfect in order to keep Charlie and keep him happy. Plus, doing too much may end up being actively harmful for Nick -- if he makes it too much of his focus.

Damn. My poor heart... The first panel where Charlie (his intuition screaming that something is off) makes Nick literally STOP so he can really SEE and not just FEEL Nick, has a background that is darker with broken outlines, and reminds me of the shattered images in the past during some of Charlie's mental health struggles...it's like that crack is happening in Nick no matter how much he tries to ignore it, even as Charlie pulls Nick up to look into him. Nick's pupils seem dilated here (not quite the horny sparkle starry eyes he usually has in such a moment), like he is trying to forget his thoughts by just focusing on his body (well, actually, on Charlie's body). Then, in the second panel, after looking into Charlie's eyes, we immediately see more calm, a softening and a quiet smile, and in the background blooms those whiter dots of light that we've been seeing every time Nick is looking at Charlie recently (to me, it seems like Nick is absorbing all the warmth and light and glow he can from Charlie, from them just being together❤️‍🩹as he feels most grounded and himself when he is with Charlie...clinging to the good)...in panel 3, we have a VERY worried and concerned Charlie looking up at Nick, and, Nick being the "think of others before self" golden retriever he is, shifts back to focusing on Charlie again...no matter how he feels, he does NOT want Charlie to have to worry about him (even though we all know Charlie IS worried and will be fine worrying about Nick!). Nick goes back to the familiar "yeah, (it's all fine)...I love YOU. I love making YOU happy." Normally these would be magical words to hear from your partner, but Charlie senses the mismatch between Nick's words, his actions, and those emotions that he is trying to push down but Charlie can see written all over his face...and the worry on Charlie's face in that last panel🥺 as he hugs Nick so tightly (with the bird sheets so prominent in the background!) reminds me of when Nick would hug Charlie, reassuring him in the midst of some of his hardest struggles, and we would see Nick's face over Charlie's shoulder filled with concern and worry...and so he hugged tighter, which is what they are both doing now. Hugging tighter to feel more grounded as they work out the next thing to say (for Charlie) or do (for Nick)🫂

I can see why you might see it that way, to me, I see it differently. Its quite normal during queer sex to go through passionate moments, tender moments, emotional moments, talking moments, super hot moments.. and none of those waves detract from the overall love thats flowing between a couple. To me, hes having a mix of emotions and thats normal, and its healthy and alright to put some aside to focus in the present, or to need more time before talking, or other needs. I just think its a bit much to say the sparks are gone and hes in fear.. its possible and really normal to experience fear and confusion and love and happiness all at once, thats emotions ☺️ and for a lot of people, there are a lot of emotions during sex, and people do zone in and out of presence and thinking, and thats all ok and very safe in a loving partnership

It’s normal and it happens and it’s not always an indication it’s something bad… in this case i don’t think it’s fear or anxiety either (otherwise the panels would get darker, w/ black spots, etc). I think it would be perfectly okay to continue but also might be showing where Charlie is at and given the content we have could mean a good time to stop and talk. Ir was just something I noticed. there is nothing one with wanting to make your partner happy and to love doing that, both emotionally and physically. (and I definitely think Nick wanted sex too. He needed that touch.) May we all have partners who want to bring us pleasure. I have had a couple who didn't seem to care that much, and that wasn't fun. The issue is that he seems to have no goals or identity beyond that, and if something goes wrong in the relationship, where will that leave him? And he may be thinking that is all he is good for, to be Charlie's support person. Like Charlie would say the most important thing in his life was Nick, (and maybe focus on that, unless pressed even) but then he may talk to you about Brideshead Revisited or Henry/Jack Maddox. Or maybe even his uni options, based on what he wants to study. Nick might talk about his mon or dogs, if pressed, but rugby doesn't even seem to be giving him that much joy or passion at the moment. (Was that rugby practice today? Seems like a lifetime ago.). He seems sort of desperate to hold on to the one thing he knows that brings him happiness. Also, though, because of his mental health journey, I think Charlie might be tuned in a bit more to signs of distress, especially from his boyfriend, They actually semi started a version of this conversation in volume 5, but then got distracted with sex, and never got back to it, so I feel like Alice may be giving us a parallel scene now. And I wouldn't be surprised if Nick is dealing with clinical depression, based on the rugby practie.

i’m taking a couple things from this scene. for starters, when charlie tells nick to look at him to check in, charlie’s concern is a grounding force for nick, calming him down a bit, but it is also a reminder for NICK that he doesn’t want to WORRY charlie, so he tries to subvert these feelings of distress by focusing on charlie & his satisfaction. but charlie sees right thru it. i really like how you depicted the progression of charlie’s confusion/concern in the last two pages. first, he was thrown off guard by nick’s sudden emotional response, and now the gears are turning as nick deflects. there are also probably certain physical cues that are hard to depict in comic format that is making this even MORE obvious for charlie. essentially, nick NEEDS to realize that charlie will be MORE worried if nick doesn’t tell him what’s going on, and it’s a mental block he has to work thru.
