A perfect page! Love the first panel, where Charlie reminds Nick that his love and care for Charlie is 100% reciprocated. You can feel the tightness of that affirming hug. This is a fantastic and necessary reminder to Nick that his happiness is important too (and I'm sure there's much more work to be done here, but it's a start). Then the humor as Charlie starts helping with the essay -- what a wonderful way to dissipate the tension that has been surrounding that task. And finally, FINALLY, the offer to write a "proper plan." I swear, that essay has been stressing me out as much as my own kids' unfinished homework does! Time to lock in, boys!

AH, I'm so glad Charlie decided to hug tighter...reminding Nick that he is equally as precious and important (as Nick feels about Charlie) and equally deserving of happiness. Such a sweet moment, and that hug is all the things...it's reassuring Nick that whatever is going on (because Charlie knows there is something), Nick is not alone; it's supporting in "i know how physical touch is your love language, Nick so come here and recharge" kind of way, and, at its core, it's so deeply intimate and connecting, back to their most treasured times when the rest of the world fades out and all that matters is the two of them❤️‍🩹🫶and that is exactly what both of them needed right now...space to share the HOME they make for each other. I also love the detail with the slow fade of their starry sparkles curving to transition to them later that night... taking them back to a similar but more relaxed continuation of their original conversation...the dreaded essay. There is something so comforting in the rhythmic TAP TAP TAP matching Nick's lightened mood and HA HA HA...just having Charlie close makes the world feel...better. And that bottom panel, I swear, Nick Nelson has never looked more content in his entire life. His dimpled Charlie is smiling sweetly down at him, promising to work on a (very procrastinated) proper essay, and Nick is utterly smitten as he affectionately (I mean have you ever seen such total adoration?!) looks up at Charlie. That's the look of true love...that's the feeling of home...that's so Nick and Charlie😍

I'm so tired of the stereotypical ideas that certain fans seem to have about their relationship. I guess it comes from a place of identifying with Charlie and therefore wanting to see Nick as the perfect boyfriend, but it's so important for people to realise that Charlie is Nick's biggest support as well.

I think it will really benefit Nick to have Charlie help him make a plan for his essay since he still have certain who he is without Charlie. It might seem counterintuitive but Charlie can probably be the one to help him figure out who he is. Part of that will be getting Nick to open up but Charlie truly knows Nick and knows what to do to help him open up about what's really going on in his head.

Re-reading all the volumes yesterday made me see that Charlie is a big support. I didn't think that before and that's because it's not really coming across in the series unfortunately. But maybe that's just my ignorance 🤷‍♀️

Keeping it sketchy helps the mood and to keep the raw emotion on the surface, expressive, and so relatable.. it allows space for our imagination when we read. So that was cute, and I love that Charlie said that he loved making Nick happy too. And that smile, was so nice to see. My issue is that Nick might be getting most of his sense from self-worth from what Charlie thinks of him, which is not healthy but also really common, so this story seems pretty relatable. It was really sweet, and maybe by planning the essay, more stuff will come out.And I think Charlie is still worried, but also I think instinctively knew they needed to lighten the mood and to boost Nick's mood a bit. I do hope he discusses this with Geoff. And on another note, they look really cozy together. The comfort is just so needed. Also focusing on something practical, and having a plan, can help me, if I'm not feeling mentally the best, and again, because of what a uni essay is, may help them talk about Nick's issues.

Oh interesting! It did come across for me, even in the first season it's clear how much Charlie supports Nick in his journey. But maybe it is a bit more subtle than in the comics. Netflix's marketing playing into the 'Nick is the perfect boyfriend' stereotype also doesn't help.

i love them 🥰. i love charlie’s sense of humor, he is so charming. fr, laughter when you are stressed is amazing. idk, this time of adulting and making big decisions about your future is wild, and hard; it’s like drinking out of a fire hydrant! i mean, in the past, nick may have viewed himself through the perceptions of others, and passively followed that course. but i really see him trying to get to know himself, and figure out who he is, and what he wants. he admires charlie, who is smart, driven, goal directed, and self-aware. i guess it makes sense to me that nick would look to charlie’s skill-set as a sort of loving ‘scaffolding’, until he feels stronger in his choices? i think they both do that for one another. i really get that.

This will be one less stressor for Nick to be able to have it done. I’m hoping while writing it that Charlie will also get Nick to open up a bit about what’s been going on with him lately. I’m baffled by anyone who could think that. It’s been out there since the beginning. When Nick comes to Charlie the day after the kiss is when we first see just how much of a support Charlie is. He gave Nick time, patience and understanding to figure out who he is. They support each other. It’s never been one sided.

I think it’s there in the show. Watch that scene in Charlie’s bedroom the day after the kiss. Nick breaks down in Charlie’s arms because he feels safe. Then in the park the talk they have. Charlie is definitely there for Nick.

i think it’d be really cool to see nick’s completed essay, because it would be a nice parallel to charlie’s head boy speech! seeing both boys talk abt their strengths as individuals in writing will help them grow tremendously. to try to predict what’ll happen next (obv just thinking out loud over here), i think that as charlie sees nick struggle to name his strengths & key facets of his identity, the resulting angst will be the catalyst for nick trying to discover himself outside of his relationship w charlie.

the argument that charlie “dulled nick’s sparkle” or wasn’t there for him as much as nick was for charlie, or whatever nonsense is such bullshit and shows people have no media literacy AT all. it’s like people didn’t even read/watch it bc for the ENTIRETY of nick’s sexuality journey, charlie was nothing short of patient, gracious, supportive, and there for him!!! charlie went above & beyond to show his care, and in the tv show version, it was TAO that told nick that charlie would let them be a secret for as long as they had to, even if it would make charlie feel a bit shit abt himself. and charlie NEVER let the trauma of his last relationship being a secret pressure nick into coming out before he was ready. and he never made nick feel like there was a timeline. charlie knew the trauma of being out before u were ready and wanted to protect nick from it. as alice said, charlie loves nick with his whole soul and it’s 1000% reciprocated

Charlie helping Nick write this essay could be a very gentle way for him to introduce the discussion of the events of his own mental health journey and Nick's support of it. It may draw out some of Nick's worries related to this in leaving Charlie to attend uni. Hard discussions can make you feel like you want to throw up but the relief afterwards of having that weight off your shoulders...Hopefully worth it. Nick needs to see that Charlie is strong enough to have the conversation.
