I totally get Nick. The serotonin you get from sex and intimacy is so much easier to reach for when you're feeling low. It's so much harder to go for the eventual weight off your shoulders you may get from talking through your feelings instead. He knows better, he's worked through getting Charlie to open up to him. Now being on the other side of that is difficult. But I also get that he needs Charlie to draw it out of him. Speaking up about your own problems is tricky. Especially when they could potentially cause a problem in your relationship.

I’m proud of Charlie. He’s had some unresolved conversations lately: Head teacher: maybe later Year 7 student: PAT PAT PAT Tori: I’m going to make toast Even though Charlie feels a bit responsible for these outcomes, he isn’t OWNING them entirely. That is yet another example of all the work he has done on himself…even if will absolutely rehash/second guess all his words…but the difference is that now he has the tools and practice to do so in a healthy growth mindset fashion. It’s beautiful to see! Now to Nick…while Charlie may not have been able to immediately address the other unresolved situations, we know he wields way more “leverage” over Nicholas Nelson. So while Nick is all H-O-T-T-O-G-O, Charlie miraculously manages to hit the pause button…because he has been putting it altogether especially since their last sleepover just how much Nick is masking. It’s time to dig into that because sex feels like a lot to Charlie right now…but I worry how readily our blinder wearing, sparkly seeking, “I’m fine, HA HA,” currently shirtless in the mood rugby captain(I mean, it was a bit out of character for him that he didn’t wait for Charlie to say sure, let’s go for IT at MY house!) is like, “y-yeah, of course—-what’s up?” I worry he is thinking that CHARLIE may want to talk about why he forgot his lunch or didn’t want toast, NOT about the tangled mess of unspoken and unprocessed emotions buried just inside HIMSELF. It can’t be about that, right? RIGHT?! And, that bottom panel where Charlie pulls Nick’s face up so he can meet his eyes, all while both of them are still hot and bothered blushing, is one of the more precious moments this entire volume. The way Charlie slightly raises his shoulders (expressing subtle his nervous concern ever so softly), and his hands move up to hold Nick in a very gentle and vulnerable place on his neck and sides of his face…all reflect to me how much Charlie wants to show how important Nick is, and how he SEES and ADORES Nick…all of him (the good and the bad, the spoken and unspoken, the anxious, the uncertain, the fearful and the wonderful sides…Charlie wants to know and support everything)…it’s in this very moment I hope Nick can clear his mind and really lean into Charlie, trusting him to explore these long ignored feelings together…the problem, I fear, is that I’m not sure Nick trusts himself enough yet…

Great page. Of course, we hate to see our boys in pain, and I understand people's feelings about it. But with how Nick is feeling, and how, he is masking it kind of may be needed. Some other thoughts. There have been times later than my teens, that I didn't have as much restraint as Charlie and it didn't really go well for me, so REALLY proud of him. I don't think Nick was upset that he was asked to slow down and stop for a sec. , but he seemed to have a bit of a concerned look on his face, like what was happening. Which is fine, he stopped, but I do think he was worried or something. (Also a note, it should be common courtesy to stop, without complaining when someone says stop, so glad he didn't, but that just makes him a decent human.)
