Charlie sort of startles when Nick takes responsibility for killing the mood but I love that he so gently reminds him with that beautiful look that reckless sex not a good idea while still affirming his desire for Nick. It is so important that he is not rejecting Nick in any way here. The powerful pull bringing Nick to his feet using Charlie's strength and love - I hope it is right into a hug 🫂.

I love the perspective of the panel of Charlie holding his hand out to Nick. It's an interesting drawing to look at and it really draws you in. Maybe it also symbolizes Nick looking up to Charlie (both literally and figuratively)? Nick is struggling to find the words to describe his emotions, something his boyfriend has become quite adept at since starting therapy. Perhaps he sees Charlie as a role model of sorts? Charlie is a beacon of love and support and inspiration for Nick.

I had the feeling I missed a page, I was looking for a stronger resolution. I guess and hope Nick will be able to talk more openly later with Charlie. But at the same time I feel that he allows himself to be vulnerable with other closed ones like her mom or her aunt...

"I just totally..." goes back to Nick's learned response that sharing about his feelings (even when asked!) negatively affects those around him...so in his mind, HE "killed the mood," by disrupting their state of horny "equilibrium" even though CHARLIE is the one who dug deep to hit the pause button. I love how this whole page shows them getting back to a balanced state (we've seen this kind of see-saw balancing act that Nick and Charlie have shared since day 1, where they do LOVE being in exactly the same alignment, perfectly balanced and connected, but are also so WILLING and ABLE to accommodate to help the other with support as needed, like when Charlie was low, Nick counter-balanced by being stronger, and now, we are seeing the opposite). Charlie's reassurance that it was okay that they didn't have sex (hello, Nick, remember WHERE you are!), along with his kittenish and so mischievous blushing glance...erm, downwards, tells Nick that it is okay, that they are okay, that HE IS OKAY...it's interesting how Nick does his eyes closed smile at this moment. Usually when he does that, he is trying to avoid a situation (again a conditioned response from childhood to hide his emotions, I suspect. It's easier to stop yourself from crying if you squeeze your eyes tightly shut). But here, I think Nick is actually closing his eyes to LET GO of the stressful memory he just had. I like to think that he is imagining where he and Charlie would be if the mood hadn't been "killed," because that is a safe, happy, warm place for him. And then, the way Charlie stands (has Charlie ever looked BIGGER than Nick EVER before?!)...and extends his hand to pull Nick up, showing Nick again how he sees and loves ALL of him, the bits and the pieces that make up the whole beautiful creature that Nick is, and reminds Nick that he is NEVER ALONE. They are TOGETHER on this so there is no need to be scared. It's literally antithesis of how Nick was treated by his dad in the flashback (and throughout his life) we all just saw...and it's HEALING. It's a baby step and a big step all at once. And I LOVE how Nick reaches to join Charlie's hand, and we see those little bright lights in the background again...Charlie giving Nick some of HIS light until Nick finds all of his light, again. It's their balance, their grounding, their love at its best!

Charlie offering his hand to pull up Nick reminds me of the scene in S2 at the party in the woods where Nick has a headache and Charlie does the same. (And than later helping Nick by telling Harry to piss off and taking Nick home.) It's such a small gesture with sometimes such a great meaning.

Charlie has grown SO much because of Nick and his support, and it shows so clearly in your drawings Alice. Charlie is beaming with confidence at the moment! - despite small "defeats" in school. Charlie knows that Nick is burning inside, but he also knows that nothing will come of forcing and pushing, but Nick is reaching his breaking point soon and Charlie sees it. but Nick finds it so difficult to speak. Alice! For me everything has changed since your wonderful, poignant story about Nick at 12 years old. I love every important issue you bring up, examine and then deal with. With this volume I love that you’re dealing with bullying and now talking together about issues and insecurities. (My absolute favourite is “I’m not ready to do more than kissing” in S2 which I wish I had said as a teenager!)
