Yeah - looks like Nick is holding Tao hostage. No sign of Elle or Darcy. I am sure Nick is going to be displaying some results of all that alcohol to his not drunk partner soon and I have no idea what Alice has in store for us. brilliantly drawn alice, the escalation of the squiggly panels as nick gets drunker is so visually captivating, and i love the way you’ve been utilizing the comic format and the creative license that comes with it— this is what it was meant for!!!

also, as some ppl have pointed out, this DOES feel like it’s potentially heading towards reverse N&C territory, but i’m hoping nick doesn’t make a scene and overshadow the band’s performance, because that would be quite shit. also considering historically how stressed charlie gets, and how he had been struggling w eating a few pages prior, i hope that this doesn’t send him into a tizzy as well. as someone who has been in a similar position as nick, i understand the numbness and elation that comes with letting your inhibitions loosen w alcohol and not gripping onto life, your fears, and your insecurities as tightly. it feels so freeing but there comes a breaking point, which nick is barreling towards. i hope this turns into an emotional and open night and not a messy, embarrassing or regretful night but you know, you live and you learn.

One of my favorite of Nick's green flags is that he thanks clerks and servers with intention (at the milkshake cafe, ice cream vendor, zoo gift shop, and now the pub). He's the best and I hope getting super sloppy allows him to let go and share his anxieties with Charlie. I'm sure he'll feel better afterwards even if he has a bit of a headache. 💚💚💚

OMG, I can just feel the headache and maybe regret Nick is going to have tomorrow. I just hope that whatever happeens, he doesn't make Charlie too mad or embarress him. I couldn't tell whether Tao was upset because of the Elle stuff, or being uncomfortable with how Nick is acting. (or both). Also is Charlie noticing how much Nick is drinking? I think there can be a fun tipsy, and a not so fun tipsy, and I think Nick has arrived there. I still think Charlie and/or someone from the Paris Squad will make sure he gets home. He has friends there, that is not my worry right now.

The expressions on this page are fantastic, but there is so much to unpack! Are the rugby lads as drunk as Nick? They look so mischievous. I love that drunk Nick is not only dancing and sloshing his drink, but he’s doing it with Tao. They’ve come so far. And Tao’s face is perfection. 😂 However, I can’t stop looking at the last three panels. Is Charlie sweating simply from drumming, or is it something else? He kinda looks worried. Knowing Charlie, he’s probably noticed how much Nick is drinking. Also, I love Nick’s starry heart eyes and blush, but he looks sad at the same time. I can’t recall ever seeing Nick drunk… only thing I can think of is the drinks being opened in the NF series at the Halloween party when Charlie was away… which never looked messy for him but did result in one of the only time we really see him crying-crying. So maybe he is a drunk cryer ♥️🤞. Def looks like a pass out is coming though 🥴 at least we know he’s got Charlie and friends to make sure this doesn’t become a regular thing (hangover also good for that!). Feel bad for Char though… seeing your partner wasted is a really sinking in your gut, scary and icky feeling :( def gonna make it hard for him to carry on playing much longer ♥️

You know what? We were all messy drunks at some point in our youth. Nick is living right now, having fun but yeah unfortunately he's gonna be a bit a of mess. And I'm here for it. Charlie may either be noticing what's going on or focusing on playing the drums. No, the Rugby Lads are not doing anything wrong or have sinister motives get Nick drunk. They are also having fun!! Today's page is real, chaotic, relatable and most of all fun!

One way to quickly escalate from fun tipsy to risky tipsy is continuing to buy your own pints AND have friends keep giving you shots (even lads who care about you can convince themselves it's good for YOU to let loose for once, Nick Nelson...). But, omg, what a fucking party and rocking concert...the dance floor is packed, the music is thumping (so love the music notes!), the crowd is talking and laughing and having so, so much fun (except for maybe Tao who doesn't seem to be very interested in Nick spilling his sticky ale all over him, lol), and even the symbolic bubbles scattered on the page contribute to the pub party mood ( I swear I can feel that music from here!) I do think, however, about how this must look from Charlie's POV (and a questionably sober/ not sober Charlie POV since he may or may not have finished the spiked lemonade that his sneaky boyfriend gave him). At first, it's fun and exciting to see your boyfriend really enjoying himself at your concert, but as the night moves on, you notice all the little signs that he is getting drunker than he might have planned. Charlie looks worried to me, and I suspect he is watching Nick and playing his set, watching Nick and playing his set, watching Nick and playing his set, and feeling the heat rise in the room with the thumping of his own drums setting the tone...all this would make me sweat with worry, too. What hits me so hard though are those last two panels today...they show the juxtaposition of emotions Nick is carrying. The close-up of Nick drinking his pint with his dilated (thanks, shots and beer) heart eyes and warm blushing, along with the lighter background that includes those white glowy dots reminiscent of Charlie Spring's warm and safe light energy, give us that outward, familiar, in love, so happy, so proud, so " my heart is going to burst from love for my boyfriend Charlie" vibe. It's so sweet and precious, and signs of a happy drunk. But, that last panel, when Nick takes a breath and closes his eyes, we see the background get darker and those white dots seem to smear, like Charlie is there, but not THERE there...like he's close but far, because that inward place where Nick's mind seems to go here, Charlie hasn't been yet... I feel a bit of darkness seeping in as the alcohol catches up to Nick, and his guard is dropping (that guard for himself and for Charlie)...and since we saw manifestations of his buried trauma in his dreams, think what the effect of too much alcohol can do...Gah, these pages are so GOOD because sometimes being drunk can force conversations along (ideally followed up when you are sober!) OR it can have you say things in a way you may really regret later. And I have zero idea where Alice is going to take us! AH! SO good and hard and realistic! (and lads ,please, be good mates and get Nick some water and FOOD, lol...).

I wasn’t thinking the rugby lads were doing anything wrong, more like being those friends who are too focused on having fun by getting drunk without thinking about the consequences. Nick's FINALLY gonna let loose! He's gonna let his guard down and say what he is really feeling about something, maybe about MANY things, and it will be uncomfortable and it will be REAL. And if Nick becomes too drunk to drive, or stand, or walk unassisted, or if he has to throw up, then he will get to experience Charlie or his friends holding him up and taking care of him for once. A very rare occurrence.

Oh Nick, is the night about to get away from you? With beer, shots and a fun atmosphere? Hopefully it doesn't get too out of hand, and that it lets Nick let his hair down for once, though the "Uh oh..." from Alice does suggest that maybe the night be a more eventful time than I think either Nick or Charlie expected. Tao does not seem to be having the best time, whether its Nick's exuberance and flying drink, overthinking about the argument he and Elle had earlier, it being too busy or too loud whose to say. I hope Darcy gets to make it down, and that Charlie is enjoying performing, even if he is worrying a bit about Nick's state.

I have another concern. If Nick gets his brave hat on after lots of booze, he might be a bit too free with his words and maybe come to regret it afterwards. That said, there is no mention of another row in Nick & Charlie so Nick might just say the right words.
