I think every single couple has to go through this conversation, and figure out what’s right for them. We know at this point that N+C are endgame but they obviously can’t see their future mini-comics etc 🤣, so they’ll need to decide what their boundaries are, etc. They strike me as a couple that would not be interested in an open relationship and they both strike me as individuals who would always be faithful. But they will need to talk through all those things together.

as a bi girl, I think these insecurities ideally should not be separated from just regular jealousy. If a person in love with a bisexual feels more threatened by the opposite gender, I feel that is a matter of self reflection and even a bit of internal biphobia. In Charlie's case, he has always accepted and supported Nick's bi label, so I don't think he would feel less jealous if it had been a boy flirting with his boyfriend in this page. And to me that is the ideal and fair attitude to have if you are in a relationship with a bi person. Jealously should feel the same, regardless of the gender involved.

I don't think Nick is aware of how objectively hot he is. After all, he's tall, athletic, in great shape, has clear skin and great hair, and has "strong rugby arms" that Charlie likes to "peek" at. But he's so self-effacing and so focused on how hot Charlie is that he really doesn't know how attractive he is to others. But it says EVERYTHING about his character and his love for Charlie that, even when drunk, maybe even especially when his guard is down, his first instinct when being flirted with by a pretty girl is to loudly and proudly point out his hot, charming drummer boyfriend Charlie. Although Charlie might have been worried since Nick this drunk is uncharted territory, he needn't be worried about Nick and his loyalty. And Nick just proved it in spades!

I don't know about that. I think it's less bi-phobia and more internalized homophobia and lack of self-esteem on the part of the gay person in a gay/bi relationship. That tension is explored a little bit in the scene at the bonfire when Nick imagines Tori saying "You're bisexual so you're going to cheat on my brother!" So it wouldn't be totally out of place here. But you are also right in the sense that jealousy is jealousy, and cheating with anyone can destroy the relationship.

i originally commented about how nick’s obliviousness makes this that much more endearing, but to read from one of your replies that he was actually aware of the flirting, and not only said he had a boyfriend, but pointed him out, makes my heart swell. i really like how this interaction happens from charlie’s POV and the balance of your depictions of the boys’ struggles. with charlie, we just saw how he was struggling to eat a few pages prior, so he might already be in a more anxious headspace, and the fact that nick didn’t even give him a chance to marinate in that insecurity / jealousy / anxiety just shows how well they know each other at this point, and how wholly they love each other. i would’ve loved to know what she said to nick, but i do love your choice of visual cue that she’s clearly interested (hair tuck is a classic)! great page alice !

Is this the first time we see Nick getting flirted with since he started dating Charlie? He does handle it well, even with the alcohol. "That's my boyfriend! The hot drummer with the dimples. Isn't he just fantastic, especially when he blushes." If the girl isn't careful she is going to know everything Nick finds great about Charlie after Nick gushes about him in the way that drunk people are so good at it. And I'm glad we didn't have that being an issue bubbling away under the surface with the image of Nick apparently flirting with a woman, bringing back issues caused by Ben. But Nick is just so happy with Charlie he can't wait to show him off. Poor Woman though, she thought she had a chance with a good guy, but he was taken.

I do agree with both of you. In my question, I was referring to the insecurities, particularly, lack of self confidence, not about trust. Both your comments confirm to me that it could be worth it to mention the question in the Heartstopper story, not for the characters but for the readers. I can imagine Charlie confessing to Nick that the idea crossed his mind for a sec and then he realized that it was stupid to think that way, and both laughing about it and kiss.

I needed such a sweet page today after we have all been fretting for days over WTF is about to happen in the Green Dragon, and this one is just the sweetest! (and I know it may not last but I am not going there now...we get a whole extra day to sit on this beauty!) It's such an innocent and very real display of their precious soulmate connection. That first panel highlights Charlie's (brief) insecurity of "what ifs" regarding Nick ( and himself!) ...I know that logically, he would KNOW Nick would not cheat on him, but, that panel is a quick glimpse of him being a bit out of sorts after JUST playing a demanding (and fun!) concert AND just noting that Nick may not be okay with his level of drunkenness. In this close up, we see Charlie's pupils constricting (a physical sign of emotional discomfort) and we have that darker background with his Head Boy confident light seeming to literally seep out of him. Then, we get those next two panels with a super cute girl with her super cute sweater and clearly trying to be super cute and flirtatious as she plays with her hair and says her likely rehearsed pick up line (how long has she been watching Nick, lol?) . Our sweet Nick just sips and listens...he seems a bit surprised at her approach in the first panel, but in the second , I can't help but feel like he is smiling amusedly into his glass (thinking "as if..."). Unfortunately, Charlie is removed from this situation but still has a full view from his elevated rock star stage, and all the light and color has totally drained out of him in that 4th panel (that background is a SOLID shade of DARK with no warm light glowing whatsoever)...he is even holding his shoulders anxiously drawn up, and his concerned expression makes ME hold MY breath, too. the context of this being nick realising the girl's flirting with him is so nice. it's so easy to lose yourself in the 'golden retriever' stereotype that means nick is so oblivious to these kinds of things but i really dig that he actually did get it and is letting her down gently. for a boy who's dealing with his own emotions is very difficult, he's still got a great sense of emotional awareness!

I was one of the commenters to say that Nick was oblivious to the flirting, but honestly I never meant it in a way where he's just stupid or something. I just took it as he's extremely drunk and last we saw, had literally heart eyes for Charlie, so that's all that's on his mind. That was just my take of it.

It doesn't seem very green or dragon like, lol . Charlie has a moment, but it quickly passed, it was VERY understandable. I think this is more like a cute moment, and shows Charlie dealing with his anxiety. I also wondered, if there might be a fight, but maybe Alice wanted to show how in love they are first. The night is young, lol.

That is nice to see! This is a complex storyline but Nick has not suddenly become some other person. He has shown sky high emotional intelligence and empathy which we have especially seen with tv Nick. I think those traits are perhaps easier to connect with when portrayed by actors. Nick has been so lost and isolated recently, he has seemed a little more robotic. So this page brought some welcome comfort.
