Oh joy, a square panel reprieve! Even if it is just for one page, there are no bubbles, squiggles, or nasty invasive peeps. Two questions. What is up with Darcy these days? And, Tara, why aren't you immediately sending Char inside to collect and save his insanely inebriated boyfriend? BTW, there is just something about the way Charlie is drawn in his puffer jacket and striped shirt. Adorable!

I'm a little confused by this page. Nick said he was gonna go find Charlie and help and he was making his way there while Tara was still sitting at the table. Now she's already outside and calling Darcy while Nick still isn't there? Unless he diverted into another room to have a breakdown that we haven't seen yet!

Maybe when Nick got stopped by the 2 knobheads Tara decided to go outside to try and call Darcy again and maybe it's taking Nick longer to get outside because he's so pissed and wobbly poor baby 😭

This freaking pub is cursed ground. It's nice to get a bit of a breather from Nick's no good very bad day. I fear he will shortly be lurching outside bringing a whole bunch of some kind of energy with him. At least Charlie is sober and may sensibly get Nick home.

I feel like I just stepped outside into a whole different world. We've been inside the pub, walking with Nick through the muck, poor love, as he just tries to get to where (ever) Charlie is (sometimes in a crowd it's hard to find the exit door, lol). Nick has felt pretty much every single emotion in the last 20 minutes, while Charlie is simply still coming off his concert high, wondering a little if Nick was okay, and then doing his job to load the equipment in the cold (in the cutest too big for him borrowed jacket....I mean, you can barely see his fingers poking out of the sleeves. I am sure it feels like he is getting a constant hug and warmth from Nick when he wears it!), unaware of ALL that has happened inside. The structure and consistent lighting of these first 3 panels give a vibe of steadiness that is the exact opposite of where Nick is right now. But, then we have Tara enter in, clearly concerned about Darcy, and expressing that worry to Charlie. Her slumped shoulders, raised eyebrows, and downcast eyes that never leave her phone because it's like that is her only lifeline TO Darcy right now...makes me so worried too! But, there's something about Charlie's response...you can see he has stopped loading, sensing Tara's stress, and comes over to meet her where she is. Charlie is listening, he is tuned in, but, in an honest attempt to be genuinely reassuring, he says something that while it is true, it is also a bit assuming/ dismissive, "She's a bit like that, though, isn't she?" While I know Charlie meant only good (truly he did), this sentence hits really hard when I extrapolate it to think about how natural it is to reason away WHY someone acts a certain way. It's not wrong, and I do not fault Charlie AT ALL, and it's a good and reasonable reassurance, (unless you may know the WHOLE story)...yes, Darcy is always late. Yes, she often doesn't text why till later, but...when you stop and really pay attention, as Tara does, you can see a pattern that has become predictable. You see through why the reasoning that "that is just Darcy" is not fitting anymore (even when Darcy, or erm, Nick, try to reassure you themselves!). It's very similar to Charlie asking Tao and Aled about Nick, and getting a "knight in shining armor" response...it tracks, but doesn't really fit Charlie's concerns. And Charlie, who knows Nick better than anyone (as Tara knows Darcy better than anyone), started to recognize that the pattern of Nick's actions are triggering a "this doesn't make sense and I am really worried" red flag in him (think about all of Charlie's pauses and text check ins and worried eyes over Nick's shoulder). We see that mirrored here in Tara's anxious reply, "but it's been CONSTANT lately." It's reminding me how important it is to pay attention and take those second looks and listen to those niggling gut feelings you get when noting that something is off with your loved ones. Tara is having them. Charlie is having them. I hope Charlie can support Tara AND simultaneously connect more dots about Nick's more constant and predictable "HA, HA's, I'm fine" (as if Charlie could forget the post nightmare talk or the personal statement anxiety)...although I suspect our tipsy Nick is about to find the exit door and bulldoze out to where Charlie is as these two very different feeling worlds attempt to realign... (and I do hope Darcy is okay...I hope Tara can find her and hold her so tightly until she can feel the ground under her again, because I am worried her mum ripped it out from under her earlier...)

My two Thoughts of The Day: 1) The whole pub scene pages are so brilliantly written and drawn - Yes, in One Page a Day Time it feels painfully slow and Cliff-Hangery (we need this to be a new word) for us all at the moment, but it's SO REALISTIC for a night out in a pub! Everything taking longer than normal and not running straightforwardly because people are drunk, and there are way more strangers around to interfere too... I can already visualise this on screen as a classic Paris Squad TV scene... 2) I love how we all get so jittery and impatient for Nick & Charlie to both be together again on a page (or on LOTS of pages, that would be lovely please Alice!) - it feels like AGES since they've been together and everything was all lovely and hunky dory... I am predicting a HUGE communal sigh of relief, smiles all round and warm fuzzy feelings when we do eventually get there :)

i have to say, i’m glad Darcy’s storyline from the show is being brought into the comics. of course it’s hard to see her and Tara struggling, but it brings so much more depth to their relationship and Darcy’s character! until now, in the comics we’ve mostly seen them as the generally happy, solid couple, an example for Nick and Charlie while they were building their own relationship. it’s also a really fun parallel to have their struggle happening alongside N&C’s AND Tao and Elle’s - none of these couples are “perfect” regardless of how they’re perceived, they’re still teenagers with their own shit to work through and ways they need to grow.

Sheesh, Charlie is getting caught in a web of his friends’ struggles. Being a teen is so tough sometimes (and dramatic)! I hope he can focus on Nick and also keep himself grounded. I hope the noise doesn’t disrupt any progress. He and Nick remain my biggest priorities and getting them on the same page. But I trust what’s coming!

Charlie’s response surprised me a little because he’s usually so perceptive, and in working with Darcy, he’s seen that she’s having problems with her mom. But, I think he’s distracted by his concerns for Nick right now, making him less tuned in. Just like Tara can usually tell when something is wrong with Nick, but she seems to be missing it because she’s focused on Darcy. This whole group really needs to start communicating! 🥺 And Charlie in Nick’s coat is the cutest.

Nick also has other people that can help - they all do. They all need more than one person and they have a good support network. So Charlie can lead with his help with Nick but he can also be there for his friends.

Thank you for the page today Alice!!! My thoughts on today's page: Charlie completely unaware of the goings on inside of the pub are finally catching up. We know Nick is wandering inside trying to find the exit. We also know that Charlie is unaware of the argument between T&E, the small argument between Nick, Tao and Elle regarding their disagreement. We also know that Charlie is aware that Nick is inside, inebriated, but he's got to focus on his bandmates and help load the van!! With Tara coming out of the noisy pub to call Darcy may give the opportunity for her to catch up Charlie as to what has been going on inside this whole time. But first they've got to talk about the fact that Darcy completely missed the show when I am sure she said she would be there. Given that Darcy still lives at home in the comics, she has less freedom on what she can do. (BTW, I also wondering what pronoun preference comic book Darcy has. I believe she's still using "she/hers" in this version) Now, with this scene and location change, we see the differences of focus on the character's mind. We've seen Nick's POV inside the pub and what he has had to go through since the end of the concert. It's been about 20 mins since or more?. Tara coming out and calling Darcy, dealing with her own relationship communication issues and now she has a chance to express how she feels to a friendly ear. I don't want to speculate on what could happen next so as to not influence anything. I hope Tara has the opportunity to unload a little of her feelings, although Charlie may not be the best equipped to hear given his own worries but at least she will find an empathetic ear.

So in terms of Darcy, yes, she has always been flakey, but it seems to be getting worse. (I mean Charlie has noted it at the cafe.). Also, it could be that Darcy has always been a little bit unreliable in part due to family issues, but now it is coming to a head more. Just like Nick's natural personality and what he has been through are coming together to create issues.

I think Tara is just so focused on Darcy and all of her/their struggles in the first place/why she/they never showed up and so she doesn't think about Nick and his struggles. Darcy is her girlfriend, so just more important to her, of course.

Charlie is looking out for his friends as always. I suppose a bit of him is in helping mode given that Nick hasn't opened up yet. Though he isn't using it to avoid a tough conversation. I fear Tara has reason to be worried, because while we only have hints of Darcy's life, what we have seen is suggestive of their home life getting worse. As have been said, trouble in paradise for everyone currently. Though I hope Tara gets to hear from/see Darcy soon. Though she has someone who will listen there with her now in Charlie, and I think its been a while since just Tara and Charlie spoke. But I fear the time may be limited depending on how fast events inside transpired with Nick.

Awwww Its so hard as teenagers, so much goes on that people are just expected to live with, deal with, or respond to when its all new and your having to invent your life skills on the spot and often way out of your depth. I wish wish wish that so many young people had access to safe older adults and buddies to help so that theyre not all entirely on their own or relying on their friends and loves. Someone else should be standing up to dysfunctional harmful adults, not young people. Young people deserve protection
