I do not know why I have a huge smile on my face reading this page. Maybe it's due to the largest panel with Nick looking so sweetly embarrassed and lost like a little boy. Or maybe it is because many of us have been in this exact situation after a drunken night out and needed taken care of. But I guess mostly because Charlie is firmly in charge now. He is not angry, and he just wants to get his love home safely. I adore Heartstopper. Have I said that lately??

Charlie is at his best. Decisive, making a plan, looking after Nick, being kind and making sure to affirm his affection and give physical touch. Nick is at a low point. He reveals his primary concerns - being hated and Charlie's anger and all with a reversion to a child like posture even with the hand holding and having his jacket put on. It is a heartbreaking face. He is yelling at Charlie for reassurance - ARE YOU SURE? I think Charlie's actions AND words show he is sure repeatedly. My worst case scenario is Nick blows off communicating with Charlie yet again. Fingers crossed this is rock bottom and a turning point.

I like the contrast in yesterday's and today's pages. Elle asking Tao to talk, actually running after him to talk to him. For Tao, emotions prevailed. Charlie, although angry, is sensitive to Nick's behavior and words. How different relationships are, how different people are. The fact that Alice is able to capture such different emotions and characters is magical

I don't wanna hear anyone say that Charlie doesn't care enough about Nick like he did when he was in the inpatient care EVER AGAIN. It's so endearing how Charlie cares and looks after Nick with deep understanding and firmness; he knows better than anyone how exhausting it must be to live with destructive thoughts and general insecurities. They can look after each other in different ways. I hope they get to talk, but I hope an adult figure intercepts in at some point for Nick’s safety.

Nick looks like he wants Charlie SO much to not be angry at him, because he is so sad now and angry at himself for acting in the affect/let his jealousy win due to his drunkeness and couldn't let Charlie handle the situation himself. So to have Charlies reassurance, that he is not going away (like his father did), even if he did something wrong, has to be so important for him and needed by him now. And as he says on the last page "I think everyone hates me", what surely isn't true, because even if he made Tao and Elle, feel bad with what he said, they wouldn't start to really hate him, because of that, for example. I think, he also feels so alone right now, that he needs Charlie even more due to that. In the third panel Nick still looks so sad like, he can't even believe, that Charlie is not angry at him, even if he does say so, because he is still so disappointed at himself. 😞 And Charlie looks soo concerned and worried about Nick, that I think, his anger at Nick did really go away very fast, due to that. Charlie just saw, how bad Nick is feeling at the moment and didn't want to make him feel worse, I think. I also guess, Charlie understood, that Nicks drunkeness is the main reason for Nicks jealous behaviour. I'm sure Nick would have handeled the situation another way, if he hadn't been that drunk and I think Charlie is also aware of that. I just want to see them hugging and Charlie telling Nick, that everything will be alright! 🥺❤️‍🩹 And I would have wished, that Charlie gave Nick a kiss on his cheek, when saying he really isn't angry at him for making it clearer for Nick, that he isn't angry. (But maybe that means Charlie wasn't ready for this step yet, because there is still a very very small bit of anger in him left or he was just more focused on getting him home and out of that pub.) Maybe a kiss on his cheek still happens, when they are waiting on the uber... 🥺🥺❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Charles In Charge. It's a good look for him, but it's terrifying to see him so worried, because he knows Nick so well, it means we all know that something must be REALLY wrong. And that look on Nick's face, with his deep, ineffable sadness that he never reveals but must always be lurking behind him in a huge and silent reservoir, makes us think that the dam is about to burst and all of that emotion is about to come crashing out! But as responsible and mature as Charlie is, can he handle it alone? Should he call in reinforcements? It's clear Nick needs therapy, but he also needs enough love and support to make life worth living so that he can learn how to communicate and want to go to therapy so he can enjoy life and drain the reservoir of sadness safely and carefully. It breaks my heart to know how delicate a task Charlie has ahead of him, and to know just how sad Nick has been for so long. But it fills me with optimism to know that they have each other and the other people in their lives.

Like.. the demons i’ve been fighting bcs of how badly people interpreted Charlie’s actions SINCE the serie’s release. You are fan of the actors, and not the story/comics i feel. How people regarded mental health and the PEOPLE affected by it over all is very telling and upsetting. You don’t extend grace to Charlie, but for Nick some if not most viewers showered him with care and understanding…anyway, those are my two cents, and it sucks bcs heartstopper started from Charlie’s pov. I DONT HATE NICK btw or the actors, I’m just tired of vitriolic and ableist takes towards Charlie as a character and the MAIN pov of the story 🫶

Exactly Did we all Watch the same show/read the same comics? Those are toned comments, i’ve seen worse Charlie alredy got a beautiful spark all on his own and his understanding and careness was what gave Nick the push to open up to Him in the first place, not to mention at some point he helped Nick navigate his very own issues in detriment of his very own mental health. Anyway, both deserve understanding and care equally, everyone is dealing with their own demons at the end if the day.

Whew...it's been such a long day that my patreon is now in dark mode...kind of like Nick's night has gone, or how he thinks it has gone. I see, however, some light and beauty and hope mixed in here, too. Take the first panel: Nick's sincere and apologetic concern to Charlie, "love...are you angry at me?" (meaning, are we okay, do you still love me?) as he reaches out to HOLD onto Charlie, to hold onto GOOD, to hold onto HOME..Nick's face is wrought with disappointment in himself, and he is clinging to Char. I love love LOVE how Charlie takes time to NURTURE Nick here (yes, nurture the bigger Nick who ALWAYS gives the 'colder' Charlie his coat or jumper, and the one who currently is wearing TWO shirts here while Charlie just has his t-shirt on). The drum sticks tucked in Charlie's back pocket reminds us of what a BIG night this was for Charlie and Queer Intentions, but, right now, none of that matters more than Nick's well being. He keeps his hands on Nick, maintaining a promise of connection and trust and security for his unstable Nick. Thats's love, daring. Second panel: The glow and warm light is back...Nick is still so uncertain (that flushing and tearful "you sure??), but, Charlie being the empathetic love he is, senses this, and reassures Nick all is okay, that all will remain okay, because they are going to walk through it together. It's a promise and a hope and a staunch reminder, "I'm here, Nick, I am HERE." The background lighting that encircles them is just so BEAUTIFUL! The third panel...gut punch: Charlie is all about business..gotta find my coat so we can leave. Nick literally looks like 5 year old little Nick who has been reprimanded, and doesn't believe AT ALL that everything is okay (and check Charlie...STILL holding and touching Nick for constant connection and support!). Nick is feeling broken over his actions tonight, mostly because (well what i think anyways) he is feeling remorseful for how he responded...it's a tricky situation, though, and I worry how Nick will interpret what the actual issue was tonight...because of his tipsy state and lowered inhibitions, some of Nick's ACTUAL feelings were shown tonight. He absolutely IS scared he might lose Charlie when he goes away to uni, and although a valid feeling, he acted on that without expressing it TO Charlie, and it came out all too aggressively. It pains me because I fear Nick will take away from this that HAVING his feelings is what makes other people angry (ahem, like his dad made him believe), when actually, it's the mishandled way he SHOWED his feelings that was the issue (the outburst with the New Guy...). His face here is breaking me...it's like he is SO sad, so full of shame. Nick is so close to uncovering the source of his mental health struggles, but is NOT QUITE there... Panel 4: Charlie only, looking up to see everyone has left. The friend group is gone, he cannot drive, and he and his boyfriend need a ride HOME. At least, that is what his words say. The close up of his deeply concerned expression with his hurting eyes that seem to look forward into the future say that he and his boyfriend need HELP and support, maybe from a loving and trusted adult, or just someone... but here they are, the pair of them, all alone in the middle of this big, loud crowd that no longer notices them. But, Charlie Spring is no quitter, especially when Nick Nelson is involved. Uber it is...

Yay, unexpected page! Its very in keeping that Charlie grabbed Nick's coat when he went outside to pack the van. Charlie's clothes are Charlies, but Nick's are both of theirs. That said, the pub has gone from warm and welcoming to quite a scary place with the darker background tones. Nick is feeling guilty and upset, whereas Charlie is worried about everything. While Charlie is trying to make a plan, Uber, home, etc.... he is struggling because he is worried. Because from his perspective everyone went from fine to issues in a few minutes, though he was worrying about Nick before he went outside. Uber, sleep, water, talk.

If he was planning on drinking as he was right at the start, unlikely. Most designated drivers won't start the night with a pint. It's not 'done' much in the uk. He probably planned to get a taxi home

Nick's face reminds me of the Sarah Colman blooper when she says: "Sweet little face". Poor Nick has been through it tonight but he's got his Charlie although he thinks Charlie is angry or disappointed in him. Everything will be okay my loves!!!

Oh god!! I remember those. The last time this happened (not too long ago) I said to the driver, stay here while I go inside and clean your car. I even gave him a huge tip after the ride and I didn't get a fee. Fortunately he was very understanding.

I surveyed my extended family! Most say “angry with” exclusively, and one other uses them interchangeably like me, and one (a kid) exclusively uses “angry at.” All of us agreed that we are *way* more likely to say “mad at” than “angry” anything. So there’s a very inconclusive, non-scientific study of one midwestern family for you! 😅
