I checked which day it was, when we first saw them going into the Green Dragon. It was Jan 3rd, so it's one month today! 😵😰🫥😶‍🌫️🫣 It was the same page, when Charlie struggled with eating his toast. At least not everything was sh*t in the green dragon from the beginning (f.e. Nick and Charlie had a good time at the beginning, but Tao and Elle were already pissed at each other and Darcy was missing) So we can say though, we are one month in, in seeing bad moments most of the time. No wonder we all want them to go home from that sh*t pub! 😱😭

Oh, no! Poor Darcy! And just when we thought Nick was going to have the time and space to open up emotionally, Darcy's emergency, which is definitely an emergency, will push Nick's emotional crisis to the side. Which is a shame, but it's also as it should be, I suppose, since Darcy really will need everyone to support them through the current emergency. Charlie and Tara, both, will be "stretched thin".

What is up with this night?!! The Green Dragon won't let go!! You can come in, but you can never leave! Poor Darcy. Their mother is so unaccepting. Parents like Darcy's mum are the very reason so many of us have chosen family. A family who also chose us to love and care for. Darcy has that chosen family now. They are surrounded by a tribe who loves them and accepts them for who they are. Really love how the background crowd is drawn in shaded outline form with the little splotches and dots on the last panel when Darcy delivers their sad shocking news.

Artistically this page is so well done—the framing between Nick and Charlie, the focus on Tara and then Darcy, the emotion on their faces and the shading in the background to emphasize that emotion. But I think they both are emergencies. I'm not saying they shouldn't help overall, but probably what Darcy needs to do the most right now is to stay at Tara's cuddle her and then talk to Tara about what is up and the next steps she wants to take. Also, Nick looks like he woke up a little, but the massive amounts of alcohol aren't fully in his system most likely. The best way Nick and Charlie could help tonight , is to make sure that Darcy and Tara get to Tara's house.

every time i think the pub night can’t get any worse, somehow it does 😭 Nick and Charlie were on the verge of finally going home, maybe having their long-awaited talk, but now disaster has struck once again and i think helping Darcy will probably (rightfully) take precedence over everything else. i’m more desperate than ever at this point for everyone to leave the damn Green Dragon so Darcy can get the help and support she needs, and Nick can at least have some water and a lie-down!

Oh geez. I hope she is more mad than sad. (Alice has said Darcy uses she/her pronouns for now in the comic.). Her mum is just terrible. Reminds me a bit of my grandma, if a more extreme version. (She didn't go to my mom's high school graduation because she looked too much like a hippie and was too liberal.) I hope that she can stay with Tara and maybe get other supports from organizations maybe. I also think her friends will be great, but maybe not tonight. If I were Charlie, my next step , if Tara didn't know what to do, is to ask Tara if she needs to call her parents to have Darcy stay over. Of course N&C can comfort Darcy, and make sure she gets to Tara's but once they know, she will be safe, they should take care of the immediate situation they have and get Nick to bed. I also worry a bit that Nick might burst out crying, which I'm not sure would help. I think usually he would be great at helping, but not tonight. Just because he woke up a little, doesn't mean he isn't REALLY drunk and he needs sleep. (And a talk, but I could see how tomorrow that could be pushed aside because they are so worried about Darcy.)

I think I've started and deleted a comment about 10 times today...it's like the depth of emotional punches conveyed by the powerful design of this page keeps hitting me harder every time I looked at it...damn... I do love how it's one BIG panel showing its primarily about Darcy, and then that the whole page encapsulates those two inset panels with Tara (and the boys). In that first inset panel, we don't know exactly what Tara is seeing, and her speech bubble with a simple "Darcy?" that extends past the structured border made my heart drop into my stomach. It's like a pause button hit Tara, who outwardly is still sporting her 'oh so cute and stylish' fit in the middle of a big, never ending pub night, but everything about her being goes stock-still, like she is rooted to that very spot. Her hands are quiet by her side, and her raised eyebrows, wide eyes, and barely open mouth while she is saying "DARCY" in a way that is somehow so audible and also so quiet, like we do when we fear something awful has happened and we don't want to acknowledge it because doing so will make it real. I was frozen by this panel, too, and was so scared to keep looking. This scared Charlie and Nick too, as they turned in unison to look over their shoulders...both with worried faces (even as Nick is still with the alcohol affected dilated pupils), so concerned for their friend. Even more, in panel 2, Tara's downturned mouth here tells me she KNOWS...before Darcy utters a word, Tara knows it's really bad. I love how Alice wanted to give us DARCY's viewpoint here...all she wants and needs is to see Tara, even if Tara is in the middle of a very crowded pub (surely it has to be closing time soon, for god's sake!). By drawing Nick and Charlie at the edges of the panel, they serve almost as buttresses (for both artistic purposes and supportive friends purposes) that force our eyes to converge on Tara (just as Darcy's eyes and heart and hope and pain are all doing). Further, as friends (and very good friends at that!) Nick and Charlie (Charlie especially who has been worried about Darcy from work AND just heard Tara's concerns) clearly know something is up with Darcy, and are and always will be there to SUPPORT her ( and Tara) in any way, but they don't quite see ALL of her like Tara does (very similar to how no one sees all of Nick like Charlie can, or vice versa)...it's part of their love story. They are most vulnerable with their person, their home, their grounding, even as they do need and hold their friends very dearly. (It's just a really impactful visual for our (yes all of us!) need for different types of relationships and support and love, reminding me how important community and chosen family truly are, and that feels really critical right now in real life too!). And then, there's Darcy...somehow looking formidable and terrified at the same time. I think my gut twists most as I imagine what her past few hours were like, between the (hateful) arguing, the decision to leave (was it hers or her mum's?). How long did she have to throw stuff in a bag, what did she even choose? Does she have her phone or did she leave so urgently that she forgot it? Did she climb out her window or race out the front door and run with those bags towards Tara...and just kept running and running (or popping on and off public transportation as able, IF she had any money!) until she could get to Tara...and now she is here, in the middle of this everlasting, faceless crowd, only seeing Tara but feeling buttressed by Nick and Charlie, and, finally, FINALLY, speaking her reality aloud, mixed with an air of disbelief. She looks utterly exhausted, and I so want to just hug her and tell her it's all going to be okay. There's also something poignant with the panel drawn so it cuts off and we don't see her feet that makes this page even heavier...like the whole of her story has been truncated thus far, with so much to be revealed...like it is too chaotic and unsettled for her to be grounded, yet...

As a Tolkien fan I am somewhat unhappy that the pub is the Green Dragon - a place of awesome food & good company (and I live in NZ & have actually eaten there in Hobbiton). It’s more like the Green Swamp, or The Slime, or… the Pit of Despair (I’m sure the Princess Bride won’t mind!).

This is not the Paris Squad's night is it? I hope Darcy managed to grab everything important, more so they don't have to deal with their mum again if it can be avoided but that's not a lot of stuff to have left. I'm sure Darcy will be able to stay with Tara, but its going to be hard on Darcy for a while. Perhaps her gran is equally awesome in the comics as she is in the series, because Tara can't help Darcy alone. Maybe a hug is in order before the finding of Charlie's coat.
