Mikaila

The stress of this section 😅

Merel

Well, who could've seen that coming? (Us. We all did.)

Hollyh

Poor Nick :(

Chloe ♡

i feel like that burnt pancake sums up this scene entirely

laura

I KNEW HE DIDNT TURN OFF THE PANKES LMAOOOOSOKDHEJDKDK

Sue Branch

Run after him Nicolas!!

Charlie

We were all worried about those pancakes 😂😂

ACxo

Oh god, the ruined pancake almost indicating the fact that Nick messed up with Charlie

Tina

i feel bad for laughing. enjoy your day tomorrow alice!

Xalek

So apt for his current mindset.

ACxo

And Nick’s expressions in the mirror again 🥺

Gracie

I forgot about the pancakes 😭

tess ^_^

THAT’S WHAT I THOUGHT !!!!!!!!! NOT THE PANCAKES!!!!!!! it’s too near pancake day for this

Lydia

omgggg the framing of the first two panels with nick in the mirror is everything ✨

soph

nicks face in the mirror is cinema

Merel

Nick's little face in the mirror, and then him standing there frozen, unsure what exactly just happened and what he should do now 🥲

Loveislove

Alice gives us the answer on the pancake 🥞 as she did with the laptop 💻 and it is a metaphor for Nick's life!!

tess ^_^

he looks so upset but tbh that fit is kinda eating (the pancakes literally Cannot eat though)

Chris

This is definitely not a good day 🙁

DLDyus-Bonsell

I am so proud of Charlie for walking away in this situation. Shows the therapy is working and hopefully will wake Mr Nelson up.

Adrian

When it rains it pours, Nicky

Vilma

I can feel Nick’s heart attack😵💀

C 🐝

His reflection in the mirror…The attention to detail. Thanks so much Alice for an amazing story and artwork ❤️.

lia

💀💀💀💀 i knew it lmfao

Karen DuVall

It’s currently Sunday morning in the US. This page has inspired my new favorite hex. May all your sundays include burnt pancakes.

tofuPudding

And I am having pancake breakfast atm....aint eatin pancakes like that mister Nelson.

Brandy78

😭 Nick frozen and his face in the mirror.

J

Nick just being frozen looking at the door is so sad

Ann-Marie Still

Nick, sort yourself out man. Think back to when you first realised you had feelings for Charlie and how that beautiful person gave you all the space and time you needed. Please speak to him 🥹

Shin__

The pancake did not have the same luck as the laptop in volume 5

Klara Dalgren

I really need this to be the last page with his face like that 😭💔 But the pancake, lol 😆

Franzi

You can feel the pain - without words... brillant Alice

Lolli98

Poor pancake.😌 But really a great metaphor! Good intention, but now just burnt shit.

Rosie💕

not the pancake!!!!

Lisa

Mood ruined. Breakfast ruined. Relationship…teetering. C’mon Nick. Get it together and TALK TO CHARLIE!!!

Loveislove

Ahh - the real Nick trapped in that damn mirror while pod person Nick is just frozen watching after Charlie 😭. I, for one, see the promise of a happier future in that Christmas tree when this unhappiness will be reset and that crashing beeping noise is the beginning jolt to tell Nick - yup - this is shit - time to stop being frozen.

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

Nick's sad little face staring after Charlie is just 💔💔💔 I need us to fast forward to Nick and Charlie happy hubby era with Daisy and probably a wee human baby...

lia

rip pancakes you’ll be dearly missed by the patreon comments. just like that poor laptop😭

Maddy

The pancake represents exactly how I feel.

Andruwu

🎤 That kitchen is on fireeeeeeeeeee

Maddy

The mirror reflections are KILLING MEEEEEEE. 😭

Lolli98

Nick is literally frozen on the inside and outside. Like his facial expression stays the same in all the first panels...until the pancake wakes him up and at least provokes some reaction! Nick, I really hope someone will come to your rescue very soon (not just with the burnt pancake).🫂

lia

girl i just laughed out loud because right when i opened this page my neighbors turned the tv on and, as it is carnival here in brazil, we’re on a waaaay happier mood. oh well😭

Maddy

NOT ONLY HAVE I BEEN CRYING OVER NICK AND CHARLIE THE PAST FEW DAYS, BUT NOW I'M UPSET ABOUT THE PANCAKE... Maybe no page tomorrow is a good thing. 😔 I'm tweaking.

emily

nick really said🧍🏻

Jacob Minger

Ladies, gentlemen, and others, I feel like we are officially in an alternate timeline version of the Nick and Charlie Novella right now. I’ve been feeling this way since I saw Tao and Elle fighting. 😩😭

Larisa

If I were Nick, the pancake burning would make me cry in 0.3 seconds after the kind of morning he's had

Gina Alongi

Oh Nicholas. Please stop acting like a butt. 🥺🤦‍♀️

Nikki

That fire alarm is gonna do wonders for his hangover haha

Vantacy_1912

I just realized I haven’t sat down to read the previous few pages and I’m glad I forgot. It can’t be more frustrating when u try to be there for someone but keep getting shut down. Clearly they are both holding anxiety. It’s literally the last thing Charlie wants to hear that Nick asks him to *eat something* in a circumstance like this.

Katie H

Nick's sad and defeated reflection in the mirror breaks my heart 😢 I think the burnt pancakes reflects and sums up how bad this situation is 😭

Maddy

I have a feeling this is just going to be another thing that Nick ignores/suppresses. I'm thinking that the reality of the situation is going to catch up with him in the middle of the game.

Audrina

I love Nick's reflection in the mirror.. such a clever little detail Alice ❤️

Samantha

Ok so now the pancake is the me laptop but with an alternate outcome.

Maddy

Can we have a break to check up on Tao and Elle? Or is that still going to make me cry?... I'm thinking I lose here either way.

Chris

And I’m worried about Nick somehow having to deal with David in the meantime 🫣

Theaterboi27

The mirror image is priceless. Nick's blank stare at Charlie's back, then the closed door. He really did leave. The tension, the sadness, the.......oh shit, burnt breakfast. That is not the only alarm that should be going off, Nicholas. Your, I fucked up alarm should be sounding off loud and clear. Deal with the pancakes and then go after your man. You are no stranger to running after your boyfriend to declare your love. Me thinks he needs to hear it again along with some pouring out of the heart.

Ingebølla

The only other person in the house with Nick now is David. Will we see an apperance? To either solve something or make it worse! (But can it get worse?, fighting with boyfriend, burning the breakfast, that also is much needed fuel for todays game…)

Steph

Why do I feel like David’s gonna wake up from the beeping and then harass Nick about the pancakes and it’s just gonna send Nick into a full on breakdown??

Ai Bui

shut BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP shit 😌💅

OSM

I'm kind of hoping for David to redeem himself a little here. I want him to come out of his room and ask Nick what the crap he is doing not chasing Charlie and apologising. Maybe David's regret for the end of his relationship could be a catalyst for change.

Ai Bui

🪜🧍‍♂️🎄

ucfnurse

Do you think he’s going to make it to the game?😯🫢🤟💞❣️🏉🤾‍♂️🏟️💫🌅🏫☕️✌️🕊️☮️

Steph

Can someone explain the laptop thing? I wasn’t on patreon then and I see so many ppl referencing it 😂😂

Maddy

Can we get a moment of silence for the pancake? 😔😔😔

Ai Bui

Oh, the dejection. The trance-like dissociation. The sensory overload of burnt batter and blaring fire alarm. A good ol’ panique attack awaits 😔. As much as that sucks (and they do suck so much), maybe this would be the turning point for Nick: the undeniable proof to himself that he, in fact, is very not okay. It’s a hard pill to swallow — needing help as a protector/helper/people pleaser — but swallowing it will be the first step in getting better. We’re all rooting for you, young Nicholas. ❤️

JoJo 🫶🏻🔐🎨

Nick your wake up David for sure and ask why you burn the pancakes maybe this is the moment Nick breaks down and tells David what’s wrong fingers crossed 🤞 for David to step up and be a big brother for once x 🫶🏻

Evergreen

OMG me too! It’s always something ridiculous like this that manages to finally break me in this type of situation.

Samantha

In volume 5 Charlie goes over to Nick's house and Nick is researching universities on his laptop but he closes it and puts it at the foot of the bed when Charlie gets there and they start getting into it and taking their clothes off and everyone here was very concerned about what happened to the laptop in the midst of all of it. So comparing the pancake to the laptop is about them getting completely distracted while something important is in the background potentially going horribly wrong. In the case of the laptop is safely got to the floor. In the case of the pancake... it didn't go so well.

Loveislove

The beeping is definitely a David alarm click ⏰

Emilie🌸

Ahh my heart can’t take this much longer🥺❤️‍🩹

Carly Louise

Hopefully this will inspire us all to keep an extra eye on our pancakes this Tuesday 🙏

kfm

Honestly, good on Charlie for just walking away in that moment. Hate that it had to happen, but that was probably the best choice. And now I’m mentally and emotionally preparing for David to make an appearance. Maybe he’ll surprise us..? 🫣

Loveislove

Imagine if Sarah walks in to David comforting Nick - whole new world 🌍

Brynn Rabinowitz

What is Nick looking at in the last panel? What is beeping? Sorry, I am confused.

lia

he was making breakfast before but forgot to turn it off before talking to charlie!

Brandon Ford

I love all you guys thinking this is gonna get better soon. This spat may resolve and they may make up, but it’s December and the events of Nick and Charlie Novella take place a few months from now and where that starts, Nick and Charlie are basically still emotionally where they are now. That whole story happens because they are choosing to not communicate in order to stay “happy” and ultimately just like what we’ve seen a combination of alcohol and pent up hostility explodes into their worst fight and the 2 week break. The issues that led to that fight are being sown in what we are reading. That’s why I didn’t like N&C originally… it seemed like a stupid sitcom fight. Now however we are seeing the seeds that led to that blow up. I think this spat resolves and they make up, but there is damage is done here that isn’t getting fixed and seeds are being planted that will grow in “Nick and Charlie”. I still say we’re going to have an unresolved truce that gets them back to being couple-y and smiley but there will be an unresolved tension that isn’t addressed until “Nick and Charlie”. Think about how in Green Dragon we plant the seed of tension with Elle and Tao. Well we know this tension will fester and at the beginning of “Nick and Charlie” Elle and Tao will break up serving as catalyst for Nick and a Charlie’s fight. Again, it’s December and they won’t break up for another 4-6 months. Then just like with “this winter”, probably the last part of volume 6 will pick up after “Nick and Charlie” so we can get our happy ending. But this angst we’re seeing… it’s NOT gone when “Nick and Charlie”starts… and that’s 5 months after this.

Justin S.

Ooof!! If that isn't a metaphor.

edward patterson

And the alarm should bring Charlie back inside.

Claire

Burnt breakfast may be the thing that pushes Nick over the edge. I would not be surprised if Sarah returns home to find him sitting on the floor sobbing. Hit the bottom and then start talking and then climbing the road to recovery Nick. 💔

edward patterson

The mirror images are of Nick's soul trying emerge into reality

Sof

alice did say the novella fight wouldn’t play a big part in vol6 though

btripi

oh no, if it isn’t the consequences of my actions!

Brandon Ford

Like i said… just like “this winter” in volume 4… in volume 4 the first 250 pages are BEFORE THIS WINTER. Then we get 6 pages of a cliffs noted version of “this winter” and then the last 100 pages take place after This Winter. Unless she is removing Nick and Charlie from canon - WHICH I WOULD NOT MIND LOL - it doesn’t have to “play a big part” but it DID happen and does tie in to what we are seeing right now and emotionally where they are RIGHT NOW on Patreon is exactly where they are in Nick and Charlie. My point is simply everyone in the comments is in denial because we want them to be happy and for this fight to be over and my point is that the fight we are seeing is merely the table setting for the bigger fight in Nick and Charlie so the hope that Jin the next panel or two they make up and get back to normal is not happening.

Brandon Ford

To give Nick some grace, it’s December. At the beginning of January, Nick and Charlie have a fight that leads to a self harm episode. If you saw season 3 or read the book it is alluded to, but Solitaire describes the whole incident and it is actually very instructive and very important to what’s happening now. The story then literally skips from January to April and by the time we get to April, Charlie is “okay” and we pivot to sex and away from Charlie’s eating disorder in Volume 5. I’m starting to think that since Charlie had the January relapse, Nick flipped a switch in his head and said “I will never again say something to Charlie that leads to a blow up that might lead to self harm”. Charlie’s ED and OCD hit critical when?… DURING THE THREE WEEKS THEY WERE APART. Nick freaking out about uni and leaving Charlie… he doesn’t know who he is without Charlie, but he’s also scared of what happens if Charlie doesn’t handle the distance well… Because the Head Boy stuff is becoming a lot and Charlie is hitting his first roadblock with it, Nick is noticing that Charlie isn’t eating and worrying about Charlie and that worry overrides his common sense because he doesn’t wanna lose Charlie like he lost his dad. What Nick can’t comprehend is that he is actually the current cause of Charlie’s anxiety… and because he’s incapable of fixing himself, this is one time he can’t solve Charlie’s problem… because HE IS CHARLIE’S PROBLEM.

Jessica Richards

With David, it can always get worse. His presence alone stresses Nick out so much, from years of bullying and neglect.

Brandon Ford

Every day this week, someone goes “this is the panel where Nick realizes he went too far and in the next panel he’ll fix everything”… and then the next day, he makes it worse…

Beam Bugge

never say it can not get worse, you're jinxing it and fate will find a way to prove you wrong

Claire

You are right there - in fact I am probably one of those who has said it!

Beam Bugge

nick in panel 1: 🥺 nick in panel 2: 🥺 nick in panel 3: 🧍‍♂️ nick in panel 4: 😳 nick in panel 5: 🕳️

Jessica Richards

If David makes an appearance now, it will definitely contribute to Nick's breakdown. I've been seeing some people here being hopeful about him, but Nick's reaction every time David shows up speaks volumes about his track record. I might sound like a pessimist, but if David makes an appearance right now, it will almost certainly be to say something shitty and unhelpful (and then pretend he was "just" trying to "help" or whatever gaslighting bs he uses to justify it).

Brittney

Oh Nick... 🤧

Emma G

Nicks face in the mirror 😭

SJN

I think we’re headed to another rugby match mid relationship turmoil, like sports day at the very beginning. Not sure if Charlie will be there, but maybe we’ll see a parallel with Nick leaving the game in the middle.

The Sarah E

there goes my theory that nick flicked off the burner when charlie said he couldn’t “do pancakes” today…

Saunter

Sad boi Nick :(

JRob

I've been saying the same thing as you Jessica. David is going to be shitty, likely involving something about Charlie being gay makes him too soft, or that Nick's too soft because he's "bi actually." That will add to the current spiral, but also serve as a catalyst toward his own healing - he doesn't want to be like the unfeeling bully David.

Beam Bugge

@Jessica: alternatively David does actually try to help, but because of all the trauma he's caused nick throughout his childhood nick doesn't trust him and everything just gets worse (kind of similar to when Stephane "promised" he would try to do better after the disaster dinner but nick didn't believe him)

The Sarah E

yeah, the detail that solitaire goes into of charlie’s compulsions and what happened that night is INTENSE! i always kind of assumed that the graphic novel and show gloss over that night because the world of heartstopper and the world of solitaire aren’t the exact same story (we have no indication in heartstopper books or show that part of higgs burnt down after all) and it actually wasn’t as bad but if it was and we just don’t find out until now then… well, nick, i understand, i was pretty traumatized just reading it!

Jessica Richards

This might just be because I have ADHD and it's hard for me to imagine a quiet brain, but I've been assuming that on the inside, Nick is spiraling out, bit by bit. I know we didn't get to see it portrayed much in the earlier books, but I think of the season 2 episode "Promise" and how his anxiety during his math exam was portrayed by those radiating scribbles. And his anxiety over coming out at the bonfire was represented by a series of intrusive thoughts with dark edges.

Shanie_MC

I agree. Even if David legitimately tries to help, Nick won't react well to him with all their history. If Nick won't even accept Charlie's help, he's way too in the weeds for David to do any good, even if he wanted to. Which I highly doubt he does. But David may be the thing that pushes Nick over the edge, which may finally get Sarah's attention that Nick is not OK.

RCM

"Shit indeed" is my new favorite caption...they have been through some shit INDEED! Even though we cannot see his face, I can FEEL Charlie's heart beat racing as he opens the door to leave. His pain over what Nick did say, and even worse, what Nick DIDN'T say, is so present, and again, I am so PROUD of the strength and awareness that Charlie is showing right now...I am not sure it will last once he is farther down the street, and he deserves a good cry (and talk, maybe?!) to let it out and regroup for his own mental health. And Nick, sweet love Nick, I can HEAR his heart, too...it's pounding, ringing in his ears, trying to drown out this reality but THIS reality involves Charlie too and won't let itself be drowned. Nick's pounding differs from Charlie's as it comes with a gradually SLOWING thump thump thump at every step Charlie takes to get out the door...Nick is in shock, understanding that Charlie is leaving but not UNDERSTANDING WHY Charlie is leaving...his expression reflected in the mirror (LOVE the way we again get just his reflection, just the exterior of him, looking to Charlie, not AT/INTO himself) does not change at all...the hurt, the confusion, the fear...it's all there, FROZEN, as Charlie leaves. Nick cannot move. He literally can't, no matter how deep in his core he doesn't want Charlie to leave. And then, we get that third panel where we get a solitary Nick, alone in that big foyer, completely immobile. His hands are still stuck at his side, his face looks like it hasn't caught up to the fact that Charlie just left.."But, we were FINE yesterday, and...I was making thank you pancakes (not registering what stage the pancakes are in), and it was going to be all FINE and perfect again..." It's like Charlie carried all the air and warmth and life out of that room when he shut the door, and Nick. Can't. Move. He's likely keenly aware of his breathing as his brain tries to grasp what is going on...but even that feels off right now. The silence in the room is suffocating but he can't move, can't act, can't talk. BEEP! Thank god for burnt pancakes (sorry Nellie)...Nick might have stood there frozen indefinitely (barring Sarah or David coming in)...but this has jolted him into action, taking him right to where he began the day, but seeing and smelling a VISUAL that HE fucked up trying to make something nice for Charlie (key word I hope Nick sees is HE). The real question is what will NICK see when he looks at that pan... These pages have been so good at showing Nick's "silent" mental health struggles. On the outside, Nick always seems so good, so fine, so, well, so Nick, the knight in shining armor ( and often he is all these things!)...it makes it easier to overlook signs that things are off with him, and since he can't/ doesn't see himself as struggling (yet), it makes it all the harder. But, we've had the night he told Charlie not to come over when he was "fine" working on his personal statement (and Charlie came anyway and Nick was so NOT fine), we've had the Green Dragon drunk falling apart (where SEVERAL friends noted Nick was so not fine), and we've had this morning, this intense, terrible morning...where things were ABSOLUTELY heartbreaking, and now neither Nick nor Charlie are fine...the slow build to Nick (hopefully) being able to look at his own self in the "mirror" and recognize his past trauma, his deep anxieties about his future (and their future!), and the fact that Charlie's hospitalization and recovery took a toll on him (and this latter one, oof, it is going to be the hardest for him to accept...to admit that HE struggled with this time (he was the strong one, the healthy one, remember?) and to know he would do it 1000x again are both okay things...but Nick's protective golden retriever energy is going to fight admitting it was hard on him too because this makes him feel guilty on so many levels...this slow build has been one of my favorite parts of Heartstopper yet (even with the intensity!), and the way Alice has laid out Nick's arc, the content she is covering, and the intentionality and care behind it makes me so grateful...for us now and for all the future readers of Heartstopper. Shit indeed, but really, really good shit.

Lolli98

Well, if Alice doesn't have time to draw, you can take over.🤣

Lolli98

Maybe she would go outside again to check if she entered the right house.😁

Jasollie

This is all a really good point!!! Thank you for sharing. Nick is going to need to work on this because he can not tiptoe around Charlie forever out of fear that Charlie will relapse and it will be Nick’s fault. But I can see how that thinking is still fresh in his mind. I do think the details of what happened with Charlie’s relapse in solitaire can’t be assumed to be canon for Heartstopper but the point remains. Nick has a lot to work through. ❤️

Katrina

I spy with my little eye a metaphor

Lauren

Kit Connor is going to kill this whole sequence of Nick doing several wrong things in a row. His screen version of Nick is so similar, he feels like he always reacts/supports Charlie the right way. Seeing him turn like this with all his flaws is going to be an amazing episode ❤️ (I have faith in the last season is coming)

Dan

Congrats on making a black hole nick 😂

Alexandra Lovisa

I hope the fire alarm makes David come down to the kitchen and get a golden opportunity to show some character development in a form of potential support to Nick if he gets a glimpse of what a bad state Nick is in rn.

hayley

alice literally said it's uphill from here which means it gets better and nickcharlie grow stronger... alice literally has said nick will get therapy btw so this theory makes no sense

hayley

can i say that alice said they want heartstopper to be a low stakes plot story so when you look up low stakes plot you can see what it means. so everyone thinking oh there's gonna be so much high consequences for nick not speaking up aka like tension between nickcharlie for awhile or trust issues or nick having to rebuild their relationship or that charlie's gonna be angry at him is not happening. right now charlie's more upset at the fact he can't help nick (and a little hurt by the comment but he knows what's it's like to go through a mental spiral) so once he knows what's going on a little bit inside nick's head he will understand why nick's been angry/snappy and nick is about to go through a montage of a shitty game, feeling like a failure at everything in his life and realizes he can't push it down anymore cause it won't stop so he runs to charlie to finally open up he's like i don't wanna be my dad or brother i don't wanna lose the best thing that has ever happened to me. once charlie knows why nick couldn't open up (seriously he will be pissed at stephane for what he did to a child!) they will be so much closer.

Rebel Hart’s The Invisibles Podcast

@JRob Exactly this. The last conversation Nick & David had was David basically telling Nick he'll get bored of his relationship soon enough. David has no idea the reality of what N&C have been through together or the dynamics of their relationship. I think the Rugby match will be Nick's true breaking point While Nick has a real love for the sport it's also tied in with his Dad, David & Charlie. The difference is Charlie joined the team and stayed with it because he wanted to spend time with Nick. He liked playing Rugby because Nick loved it.

brie

🧍‍♂️

Jordan

This is such a beautiful set up for whatever happens next. So many of Nick’s anxieties in this chapter are about things he might not yet be able to identify or name but one thing he can probably very clearly say now is “I’m scared Charlie won’t eat when he gets home.” That’s a great starting point. Because then someone can say “tell me more.” And that can lead to him talking about his anxiety about a relapse and hopefully soooo many of the other things under the surface. Not saying all that will happen today ofc. The conflict in this scene that we’ve seen so far did such a great job of bringing just enough to the surface that now Nick can really start to dig ❤️ I’m hopeful!

Claudine

I notice how Nick says "shit". Small letters and without an exclamation point tells me he is not angry and frustrated about the whole situation, but very sad and not knowing what to do? Best case scenario I think is that Nick opens the windows, Nellie jumps out and looks for Charlie to bring Charlie to Nick but I think David is going to wake up to this yes....

Jennifer Berry

well nick … no charlie and no pancakes

lia

completely agree!!! let's not freak out y'all lol

2catlovers

That was only in the show so will be interesting if it’s brought into the books.

Cliff

And so this happened. They could patch things up soon, but on a page-by-page basis, this is going to be tough! Especially if there's, say, four pages of Charlie/Tao/Aled hashing this out, or four pages of the rugby match, or Nick having a tearful, drawn-out discussion with Sarah, etc. So yes, all will be fine in the N&C universe eventually, but until then, drama. But isn't drama what drove people to become committed to this story in the first place? But since I've continually proven myself to be a bad prognosticator, maybe Alice will really throw me off and have a time-skip to N&C sitting on the couch saying "Well, I'm glad that's over!" (Not really. 😉)

hayley

also @ everyone who thinks david might help nick.... there's not a helping bone in his body, he's definitely gonna come in when nick's in his spiral of how do i fix myself and go "damn nicky you really can't do anything right"

hayley

i can have a fuller comment on david and the whole situation if anyone wants it

Olav Gehle

I have the urge to hug them both…

hayley

probably the four-ish pages of the rugby match is very likely considering alice mentioned it. and tbh i don't think we will see nick opening up to sarah, he has more trust with charlie... sarah's a good mom but she's kind of been putting david's comfort above nick's for awhile now...

lia

as someone with a similar relationship with my sister this is so not happening 😭 i’d rather die than have a meltdown in front of her. she would just humiliate me more and i think that’s what would happen to nick too unfortunately if that were to happen. i would like it if it happened in a different way tho, because it’d shift their relationship a bit.

Noemiette

Except that maybe, just maybe, the only person that can understand the best what is going on inside Nick's head is the only person who lived the exact same thing as he did (but just dealt with it in a different way)

Megan

At last the quietly cremating pancake makes itself known! 🔥🤣 The last few pages have been so sad and emotional 😭💔 I am so grateful for this small slice of comic relief of Nick’s hilarious panicked realisation in the 4th panel. 😂

hayley

i mean he could show a small bit of worry but he has damaged his relationship with nick a lot from what we've seen and heard so...

Noemiette

Yeah but even their complicated relationship comes from these issues they went through as kids. So could help both individually AND their relationship if they had a good talk

T

Gotta stop leaving us like this, Alice.

Agosława

TBH I did not expect Charlie to leave without a word this time but I guess Nick's avoiding his own issues once again just was too much

David C Witkin

The sad, singular burning pancake is an apt metaphor. Issues that you literally "leave unattended" or "leave on the back burner" for too long will burn you in the end. Best to focus on what's important and remember to finish what you started.

hayley

which nick is about to do shortly... he doesn't want to end up like the pancake.

Jessica Richards

@hayley 100000%. As much as it would be cool to see David redeem himself, he has WAY too much to make up for. A lifetime of him being Nick's live-in bully cannot be erased with a few small gestures.

Jessica Richards

I am also happy to provide examples! I think Alice has made it REAL CLEAR how Nick feels about David. They may have shared experiences from childhood, but David clearly aligned himself with Stephane against Nick. So those experiences were NOT the same.

Murgy

Well, that's just heart breaking. Nick standing there alone, lost, not knowing what to do while the Pancake in the kitchen does a fine job of showing exactly what happens when you don't face your problems and continue to ignore them even when they're getting worse: Things go horribly wrong. The S* very much seems to sum up everything about the situation and about how Nick specifically is feeling. I doubt the pancake even factors into his exclamation.

Noemiette

Aligned himself with Stephane against Nick ? He may have tried to get closer to Stephane and please him more, that's for sure, but Stephane didnt give a shit about him as much as he didnt give a shit about Nick. There was no aligning with him. The bullying of Nick very clearly comes from childhood jealousy following the divorce that was never taken care of. Yes, there is a lot of work to do before rebuilding their relationship, but their experience is the same. They both internalised what Stephane said, both were raised by Sarah, David just tried to please Stephane a bit more cause probably he felt he couldnt compete with Nick for Sarah's affection. It is a very classic situation of sibling jealousy and I dont think Alice brought David back and teased a maybe beginning of change of behavior just for him to stay the same as he has always been

hayley

nick: i'm not gonna be become like that burnt pancake which looks similar to a black hole (which people say is what a deep mental health spiral is like)

Sandra Day

Ouch. 😩 my heart hurts 😢

Cliff

I think there will be at least four pages of Nick/Sarah not just to discuss this incident, but him finally revealing that the trauma caused by his parents’ divorce when he was just a kid is still ongoing. There’s a lot to talk about.

Glenn

I totally understand why there's no new page today. It's going to take Nick a couple of days to scrub the pancake off the skillet.

hayley

oh yeah that might be later after he tells charlie i think

Andrew Gillies

For a second I thought he had dropped his phone down the toilet lol

Flor López

hahaha, that is funny, it took me a while to understand that it was a pancake.

Glenn Crawford (GraphiqueJack)

Nick not only is refusing to tell Charlie what's going on, but he's hovering over him telling him to eat something. You expect Charlie to give him a big hug and kiss and say 'tootles'? Nick deserves this.

AshleyRyan

I think I finally caught up and new to the Patreon and novels. I'm loving every second. Loved N&C, Loveless, Solitaire. ❤️🥹✨🙏

Agosława

I definitely did not expect Charlie to give Nick any hugs and kisses, that would be out of place imo, but just say bye or something and then leave. But I kinda understand he left silently bc he was probably just fed up.
