JoJo 🫶🏻🔐🎨

So glad Charlie’s mum is there for him x Charlie crying gets me every time 🫶🏻

aubrey

i wanna hug him so badly right now omg

Merel

I fully forgot Jane existed I'm not gonna lie

antho

charlie ☹️☹️☹️

Allison Drevich

Awww, maybe he can have a good chat with Jane.

Charlie

Come on Jane. Be the mum he needs right now. Now is your redemption. Just listen to him.

K

I have a good feeling about it 🤞🥹

Xalek

Poor little Char, Nick has him all twisted up getting in his head. You can do this my darling!

Katie H

I really like the way you've drawn the process of Charlie getting really upset and on the verge of tears with the dark background to show Charlie's pain and sadness 😢 Also, I'm glad that Charlie feels strong enough to make some toast, and hopefully he'll eat it 🥹

T

🥺🩷

Sophia Furlano

Omg are we gonna see that fight between them from his perspective soon?!?! Because I think that would break me

Jmejimz

Please say something helpful and comforting in this moment Jane, I have faith in you! 🙏

Kela87

Yes please! Someone call Geoff asap!!!

ACxo

Charlie and Jane have come so far in their mother and son relationship 🥺 it really shows in this update

Barb

oh no, not the thoughts occupying charlie's mind again!!😭 his sad face making me sad too🥺

Maddy

No food talk. Just sit and talk to him plz. 😭

shelfie69

This is getting so hard to read, stressed about Charlie & Nick

Loveislove

So glad Charlie is attempting to eat. So worried to see those black dots and that devastation on Charlie's face. Happy to see an adult involved in this situation, finally!!! Alice's caption even better - Jane and Geoff can support Charlie and help lead to support for Nick ❤️‍🩹

Claudine

I hope in the next panels we are going to see Jane listening to Charlie and try to give advice. That would be so beautiful 🥺💞

Allegra2346

The fact that he even made the toast when he’s clearly not in a great place right now speaks volumes of how Charlie has grown. Before the clinic Charlie would have just gone up to his room and told everyone he wasn’t hungry. 🥺

Maddy

It makes me sick to see Charlie like this again. I hate it.

Fey 🍂

My poor baby crying. I can't watch Charlie cry. It breaks my heart. Just seeing those pictures already gets me teary. I can't watch him suffer. It's just too much 😭😭😭😭

Lovelyarts

Ohh.. Poor Charlie🥺 I hope Jane helps him!!

Noemiette

My level of excitement at the possibility of a Jane/Charlie scene just went through the roof 🤩 Really craving to see how their relatioship evolved since the last scene between them we've seen (which was like 6 months ago in the timeline) And yeah, Charlie needs some Geoff time and also a massive hug :/

Jasollie

💔 I am so curious how Jane will handle this. But I know Charlie may just downplay his emotions/ deflect attention because he doesn’t like to open up to his mum because she hasn’t established that kind of trust.

Tina

a jane redemption????

Merel

I expected Tori so it took me a moment to realise who it was lol

Maddy

I was hoping it would be Tori. Please be good to him Jane. 🙏

Mara

My heart hurts :((( Charlie needs the biggest hug

ale

JANE CALL GEOFF PLEASE

melly2oo

The therapeutic growth is very very subtle here, but at least to me it’s evident that both Charlie and Jane understand more now that food isn’t the problem, it’s the challenges managing painful emotions and experiences

Kristen

Definitely time to call Geoff! He can help him with his side and maybe tips on reaching out to Nick without the therapy speak! 🥺🥰🍂

Carly Louise

Nobody expects the Janequisition! No but seriously Jane be good. For the love of god please be good.

Samantha

Definitely Geoff time!

Katie H

I'm intrigued to see if Charlie is open and honest with Jane and tells her what happened because he could really do with a hug right now 😢

Jasollie

I was just watching this video and the first part is what Jane and I think SO many caregivers struggle with. They react to their children by jumping to judgment or problem solving without listening. I’m sure this has happened so much with Charlie so that he doesn’t feel comfortable even telling his mum what’s wrong. It would be great in this moment if his mum could be there for him in a supportive/ nonjudgmental way. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/12G4gEzHGBH/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Blissnfaith

High praise to Charlie for making the effort to make breakfast at home (even though he may not be able to eat it). It would have been so easy to just go upstairs, bury himself under the covers and have a good cry.

Adrian

I’m happy he’s making toast

Sophia Furlano

In solitaire nick and charlie are having dinner and they get into an argument that causes charlie to relapse.

Maddy

MY SHAYLLAAAAA 😭

Klara Dalgren

Aww Charlie 🥺 I hate that he's worse, but it's so realistic. He's not magically cured by therapy, it also takes work and that tends to slip ones mind when everything is alright for a while. I love that it shows that mental illness is something you gonna be struggling with more or less throughout life.

Dionne Lakey

Ooh Nick with David and Charlie with Jane. How are the dynamic duo of David and Jane going to deal with upset Nick and Charlie?

Pitter

I like that Alice is showing ED as a constant battle and not one that magically goes away after treatment

Melissa B

Come through for Charlie, Jane! You can do it!!!

Tova ✡️🏳️‍🌈☮️

I appreciate that she asked if he was ok because thought he was supposed to be with Nick, and not asking about his apparent hesitation to eat the toast he made. Often the tension with his mom stemmed from her bringing up his eating or lack thereof. Here, she is acknowledging his plans and wondering what caused the change. Not sure if that will keep Charlie from deflecting anyway.

Valeria Rodriguez

I’m hoping Charlie ask for help by asking to speak with Geoff and Jane responds yes and maybe there’s a hug. I’ve been on the side of Jane of love but anything I say is just not it. But I could get access to tools to help and I’m hoping Jane has also learned to listen and respond instead of interrogate and correct.

Chris

oh Charlie :(

Steph

I think that this will be a good talk with Jane. He may not tell her everything. But she will be there for him and understanding. She will make a call to get Charlie in for an extra session with Goeff. I also fully believe Charlie will eat this toast. He has come so far!

Brandy78

😭 I just want to hug him

hwalker

I think it makes a lot of sense that Charlie’s struggling with eating right now. In addition to there being relapses and harder times even after therapy (it doesn’t just cure your mental health), I’m reminded of how Charlie was also diagnosed with OCD in volume four, and how he explained to Nick in volume three that he stops eating because it feels like one thing that he can control. With Nick not opening up to him and acting so strangely and Charlie feeling like he can’t help, as Nick shuts him out, it makes sense that he feels like he needs to have a sense of control over something

Nikki

C’mon Jane, this could be your time to shine. And for Charlie to be open with her and give her a chance to help him. She might be able to help him see things from Nick’s POV. Also I totally forgot Jane had long hair, didn’t recognise her for a sec 😂 Also, now I really fancy toast.

Chloe ♡

i want to give charlie the biggest hug 🫂

Ingebølla

I feel like many are too harsh with Jane and vilify her, especially comparing her to David! I also thought we saw her redemption in Volume 5, and also now with letting him stay at Nicks and trusting them. I mean he did do a gig in a pub yesterday… Now, don’t let me down Jane and make me look like a pillock for standin up for you! 🙏🏼

OSM

Praise be to Geoff

Nils

Yes Charlie, please either talk to your mum or try to get an appointment with Geoff as quick as possible.

springy

the springs using flora!! charlie spring, i knew i liked you

Evergreen

We’ve all been looking for a Sarah moment, but wouldn’t a Jane moment be amazing? We know these two have been working on their relationship. How lovely would it be if Jane said and did something that shows she is coming to understand Charlie and be there for him the way he needs? 🥹

Lolli98

"Omg Jane...why not Tori?" was my first thought tbh. But now I'm hoping for some good progress in Charlie's relationship with his mum! Please Charlie, open up to your mum (at least a little). And please Jane, come up with something useful to Charlie. I know you can do it!🙂

Dionne Lakey

For me I compare them because they have the most influence over Nick and Charlie. They both have history with them that helped create their present day behaviour and they both live with them and make their home life easy or not for Nick and Charlie. This doesn't vilify them so much as make for interesting potential for change or no change.

Elfi

Oh, I would love a good talk between Charlie and Jane! I'm not sure how much Charlie will tell her, but I also think it's not completely unrealistic for this talk to turn out comforting and helpful since their relationship seems to have improved. It would also be a nice parallel to Nick talking to his mom when he was worried about Charlie's mental health.

alexis rae

So glad she asked,I hope it stays positive and she is there for him the way he needs her to be!

Liz

Ooof

Caro

and when we see a parallel when Nick was crying on the beach and talked to Sarah, but now Charlie is talking to Jane and she is saying things to Charlie that can start to help make things better? 🥺

Steph

When is Nick going to get his own Geoff?? 😢

Madeline Hutchinson

Oh that’s tragic, Nick is so focused on trying to help Charlie but he doesn’t notice that his refusal to open up to him is actually making both of their mental health worse 😭

Jordan

Love how we see a glimpse of how long Charlie’s eyelashes are in the bottom panel

ucfnurse

Charlie’s face!!!😯🫤💞❤️‍🔥🤟💜🌺👀🌠✌️🕊️☮️

Lissie

Charlie's face is hurting my heart 😭

Theaterboi27

Charlie, here is your mum. Talk with her. Jane loves you so much and only wants the best for you. Let her help you through this dark instant. Moms are godsent with words of wisdom for these very types of nurturing moments. You of all people know how discussing your feelings can help tremendously. The three frames with Char fighting back the relapse are chilling, resulting with total panic in his eyes.

Jenna

Can it also be mum time?

Cliff

Sigh. I actually hoped that when Charlie stood outside the door of his house that he would turn around and go back to Nick’s. Jane is ready to be completely helpful for her son, and I think Charlie is ready to confide in her. In this case, tears would be good as he gets comfort from his Mom. Let it all out, Charlie!

JRob

I really hope she started her own therapy and can be a better support.

JRob

I couldn't help but laugh at this. Dear gods, the next few pages are going to be...interesting...\

Beam Bugge

that happened during volume 4 (it's briefly referenced in charlie's journal) but it is possible we might get a flashback

Flor López

Didn't that happen already in volume 4? I remember Charlie writing about it in his journal.

Beam Bugge

he was... until he wasn't

Flor López

Yeah, Alice uses this a lot in flashbacks. I remember she used it in this volume, too. She edited it out from the scene when David asks him how Charlie was doing.

Merel

True, but I think this will be an interesting development as well! Nick and Charlie both need help from trusted adults like parents, teachers or a therapist. Their relationship and friendships are great but they can't only rely on other teenagers to get through difficult times.

Katrina

Charlie talk to your mom. She’s actually being nice and trying and at least she asked!

The Sarah E

oh charlie’s poor little face, i cannot take it! i’m rooting for you here jane! get this right and help our boy!

Shirley Hatton

Poor Charlie 😓 hopefully a decent talk with his mum on the way 🤞🏻

Beth Yoshida

Good on Jane ❤️ She's clocked it and has said the right thing

Beth Yoshida

Adding this- I am one of those people who believe that even though Jane has messed up, she also truly loves her children. I really want to see this connection happening here.

Joni

I was expecting Tori and it’s Jane instead, that’s an unexpected twist. I hope this conversation goes okay because Jane has got better at talking to Charlie over time. Here’s my hope she stays calm, patient, and understanding 🤞🏻

Dionne Lakey

💜 Charlie heading straight for the kitchen and not taking his shoes and backpack off at the door, shows how he's trying to get ahead of the bad thoughts that control his eating. It's so heartbreaking, his illness. He tries so hard. And keeps trying again. Strong boy. Because of this, part of his trying hard will be reaching out for support. Asking his mum for help in this instance. This will show how Charlie is capable of taking care of his illness.

Dionne Lakey

Yep - always has loved them - just had no idea how to support them. Now she knows how a bit better because Charlie communicates with her. So she's learning. Wish Tori would find a way to do this too.

Beth Yoshida

Exactly, communication is key. I hope at this point Jane has been getting her own therapy and been working on her communication with Charlie. I really did like the interaction they had after the argument they had about the overnights so I definitely had good vibes so far from this

brie

MY SHAYLA

SuzyLd

Guess he has to admit there is a problem first. It all started to move for Charlie once he accepted things were bad and he decided he wanted to get better. Nick’s turn now.

T

Jane! This is what we call growth.

GirlHero

ask for support if you need it, charlie. that’s strength AND growth. jane please come through!! 🙏🏽

Megan

Aww Charlie and Jane’s relationship has grown and developed so beautifully 🥹❤️ I feel confident that Charlie will open up to her about what’s going on. And I’m so curious to find out if maybe Jane might have some insight and even relate slightly to what Nick is feeling as we know now she didn’t have a good relationship with her parents and I could definitely imagine her traumatic childhood being something she struggled to open up about in the early years of dating Julio and perhaps she might be able to help give charlie some guidance as to how to broach the subject with Nick? ❤️ I’m glad she’s there for him. Alice you are wonderful for portraying so many different kinds of love in this gorgeous series! ❤️

Jennifer Paddock

Oh Charlie's little face 💔 I really hope he tells Jane some of what's going on, she gives him a big hug and lets him cry a little, and then they call Geoff. 🙏

RCM

I appreciate how there is something so mechanical, so routine, in the top 3 panels...Charlie comes home from a night out, drops his bag, grabs some bread, pops it in the toaster. This could happen after the best OR worst night out...and suggests to me that where Charlie is currently in his healing journey, his emotions are more detached from eating, like having big feelings and being compelled to control his intake aren't as co-dependent as they once were. But, recovery from ED is not a linear process or a predictable one, and there can be relapses, but the fact that Charlie walked in and directly made himself breakfast is a small win in my book...And then, then, we get that big middle panel of Charlie in his big empty kitchen. (Side note, I have always envied Jane's green thumb (or maybe Julio's...who is the Spring plant whisperer?!), and love how we get glimpses of plants in the room and in the backyard). The sunbeams are pouring into the kitchen, and on another day, it might feel like a warm, "normal" morning, but today isn't normal at all. Nothing about this feels normal or natural or right...and the sun shines on Charlie's BACK reminding me he can't SEE the source of what he wants and needs to see, he doesn't know where Nick's hurt is coming from, he does not notice anything else at all, because his heart is hanging on by a thread. It's not until Charlie stops moving, puts his plate down, and looks at his food, that IT ALL HITS HIM. He initially looks like he is just contemplating whether or not to eat, but it's so much more than that... as all those black, dark dots creep all around Charlie, surrounding him with all the memories from last night. He thinks about Nick's overly aggressive response to New Guy, about Nick's support for Darcy's they/ them moment, he thinks about Nick being sick for so long and how he only wanted to help him, he feels the shock of hearing Nick yell at him to go away, followed by a very broken and crushed Nick opening the door to him, he remembers Nick's promise of tomorrow, and how good it felt to hug Nick in the kitchen...and then, he thinks about how Nick wouldn't, couldn't open up to him. He thinks about how Nick is clearly hiding by lashing out at Charlie, and even though Charlie knows that Nick doesn't mean those words "therapy speak", those ARE the only words he has to go on. Why can't Nick talk to him? Don't they talk about everything? Does Nick not trust him? What is so bad that Nick has closed his heart to Charlie? It's SO much, it's too much...it's scary and confusing, and the dark blotches are swirling and the tears start falling (and I'm over here cheering, "Yes, Charlie, let it out..let yourself FEEL those feelings, it's okay to cry and feel and I love that you aren't hiding in your room but you are letting it out in the freaking kitchen was has been an unsafe room for you in the past but you are there now...and Charlie, you have those dark blotches but they haven't coalesced to be a solid dark background. That is such progress...you are experiencing very difficult things right now over the person you love the most, things you cannot control or fix, and yet you are not hiding, not running, not transferring your pain...this is the one step forward, two steps back, three steps forward, one step back recovery you and Geoff have talked about....). And omg, I have never been so happy to see Jane Spring in my life. Her approach is cautious and soft as she gently holds her cup in her hands...and I appreciate how she ASKS, " You okay, darling?" even though I am sure it is pretty clear Charlie is NOT okay. This is progress on her end, giving Charlie space to answer for himself instead of jumping to conclusions or going into full on protective mode about food. Charlie looks up at her, making eye contact...and as hard as this page is, it says so much about Charlie's growth as his own person, and that is healing. But, my heart is breaking because I can feel Charlie's heart breaking with all the worry and pain and fear and hurt, as his love, his everything, his NICK, seems to be turning his back to him...Jane, it's time for a Geoff visit...

Juliana Barhorst

Some mother son with Charlie and Jane bonding might be the breakthrough we never knew we needed. But also some Geoff time wouldn’t hurt for both Charlie and eventually Nick!

Koko

I think it's some mom son and some bonding time.

Hannia Diaz

My soul is ready for a softer version of Jane, I want for Charlie to have a closer and warmer relationship with her ♥️

Loveislove

I love your whole analysis of Charlie being in the kitchen - traditionally the heart of the home - the room where many secrets and feelings are shared but a room that Charlie often ran from - especially with its association with food. It's also going to be quite the parallel to witness what happens in this kitchen compared to what is going to happen in Nick's kitchen. I believe Charlie's is a place of healing and progress... Nick's - not yet. But they do both have love. I will be very relieved to have adult perspective and support in both kitchens ❤️‍🩹

lia

my shayla 💔💔💔

Calfic

Mostly agree, but Nick needs his own therapist. (It is just good practice for couples, unless they are doing couples therapy.)

TT

These boys are going through it! But I love this page. I love that Jane sees Charlie struggling and is showing her concern for her son. Charlie needs someone to step in and help him right now. He’s carrying so much on his shoulders. He is worried about being an effective head boy, worried that he can’t stop bullying from happening to other kids, worried that the principal doesn’t care enough about his students/doesn’t see the importance of creating a safe environment for everyone, he’s trying to keep a job and maintain his heavy load of schoolwork, and of COURSE, he’s worried about Nick. He’s worried about knowing what’s going on with Nick—and Charlie’s tendency is to think HE’S done something wrong. So he’s probably questioning their relationship too. If he’s done something to push Nick away. And hopefully Mama Jane will get that Geoff appointment scheduled ASAP! These scenes are so powerful. Alice is a brilliant storyteller. And I’m certain they have no idea JUST how important their work is in this world (despite how loudly we declare it). ❤️‍🩹

Diana N

My heart is still feeling like that burnt pancake. The tears forming in Charlie’s eyes 🥺 My poor boys are hurting. Those black dots, the intrusive thoughts hint 💔

Gracie

Wait are we gonna see a heart to heart with Charlie and mom?

hayley

oh you mean JANE of all people might give charlie a hint as to what's going on with nick. (or geoff)

Shanie_MC

I have hope that this will be a positive interaction, based on Jane's soft words and demeanor. It would be a great parallel, Charlie having an honest, supportive conversation with his mum, who has been such a challenge in the past, compared to Nick feeling lost and overwhelmed and then getting into it with his lifelong bully of a brother. They've switched places in the relationship and it's fascinating, even though it's painful to watch.

Dionne Lakey

Thank you for this. That was astoundingly revealing about several people and relationships.

Bina

Jane to the rescue maybe?? 🥹 i really want to see her come through for Charlie right now and show her own character growth, as well as Charlie’s growth in being able to openly talk to her. it would be a great parallel for her to help him in a similar way to how Sarah helped Nick when Charlie was first struggling with his mental health.

CinD

Why am I crying??? 🥲 Oh right the power of ✨Alice✨

John Deuel

Ok, someone help me here. British toasters make noise? Do they have fans? ☺️

June

i'd love to see a heart to heart conversation between charlie and jane🥹 maybe she can help him make sense on what's going on with nick or just be supportive.. i really hope we see a better side to jane..❤️

Beam Bugge

iirc we've seen Julio do gardening stuff in previous pages, so it's likely him that takes care of the indoor plants too! but idk

Maddy

I think it's just the sound of the heater (or whatever it's called) inside the toaster.

Calfic

Yes. I do think it will be a thing with Geoff where he talks about Nick first, but then brings up other stuff.

Meike

I feel like people are sometimes a bit harsh with Charlie‘s mum, especially the comic version. I do see that she isn’t exactly a very patient person, but that doesn’t automatically make her a bad mother. I feel like she is a very worried person and Charlie‘s backstory probably doesn’t help to make her feel more at ease about him growing up, especially when she obviously doesn’t have any good parenting rolemodels in her family. It seems like she must have been supportive when Charlie came out to his family and when he told his parents about Nick they were surprised but happy for him and when Charlie finally did talk to them about his mental health problems they took him seriously and tried to help him as quickly as possible. So what I am trying to say is Jane isn’t perfect but she’s not a bad person and most of her actions come from a place of love and she sometimes gets it wrong because having children is a stressful business, especially without a good support system.

David C Witkin

It would be so nice if Charlie would open up to Jane. She seems like she wants to listen as well as talk. Maybe she can help Charlie make sense of what's going on with Nick, and help him figure out how to be patient while Nick figures out what's going on and what he wants to say. At least it will help to have another ally in his corner....

Corinne Muccilli

Holy crap, Jane is coming to the rescue? Possible controversial take - I like Jane and I even agreed with her in some instances. I could definitely see a conversation with Charlie play out here. Who better to help someone navigate their boyfriend not opening up than someone who doesn’t really open up? As if I wasn’t already invested enough. . . . 🍿

David C Witkin

I just finished reading it and I am crying now. I think we can start casting the Heartstopper reunion flashback scenes now!

David C Witkin

Hurt people hurt people. It's been really nice seeing Jane grow out of negative patterns to help her children, whom she loves very much.

Hollyh

I live in Scotland and have a regular toaster similar to the one in the drawing if you can see there is a little like circle button basically you twist it for how long you want your bread to toast for and the button basically twists itself back to the top so I’m guessing it’s the noise of the button twisting xx

Megan Cooper

I have always sympathized with Jane. She’s a mom and she loves her kids. She’s not always right, but she always wants the best for them. She’s had to learn how to be a parent to teens, just like all parents do!

Lusi

Charlies tears are heartbreaking once again 😭😭💔😭😭 I'm ways too invested in Nick and Charlie. I think Charlie is my all time favourite character of any book right now. To see him cry is so hard. I don't want the boys to suffer 😭

John Deuel

Thanks everyone. Holly, what you're saying makes perfect sense now. I have a toaster oven that has a little timer like that that makes that noise. The slice toasters I've had have darkness knobs, but they've never been wind-up / wind-down timers like that so that didn't occur to me. Thanks for your reply!

Ana Alicia Aranda De Contreras

I hate seeing Charlie suffer and even more so when the person who made him suffer was the person he loves the most, which urgently occupies Geoff😭😭💔🥺

gunclevanya

yes, definitely Geoff time. The Jane Redemption Tour continues…

gunclevanya

One thought I’ve had thru the years: even when Charlie is eating, his diet seems to consist mostly of toast. Is this because we’re usually seeing him eat only on tougher days? Does he get enough nutrition? Maybe in the future, we could see him eating on a good day, just to reinforce that he’s able to manage it…

Elsie 3

I’m not sure if I’ve read this or heard it or just inferred it, but I seem to remember something about toast being a safe food for Charlie. He has eaten other foods throughout the series, but it does seem to be the food he goes to most when he’s stressed or when other food is too much for him.

Elsie 3

Agreed, and especially once we got more of a window into her upbringing and some of how she was treated by her own mom. Helped me empathize with her a lot more.

boombroadcast

I’ve assumed that toast is a safe food for Charlie when he’s struggling. We saw him eat toast after beach day in vol 4 (when he couldn’t manage lunch), and after fleeing home on Christmas Day in S3. But on better days, we’ve seen him manage proper meals (like at the Spring/Nelson dinner in vol 4, at the fete in vol 5, etc.). I think guilt pancakes prepared by a still deflecting Nick probably felt extra overwhelming, and it sucks that even toast at home seems difficult today. :(

Calfic

Yes, it sucks, but I also wouldn't take just toast as an everyday thing. It is just something he can tolerate, those hopefully rare times when he can't seem to eat anything else. Also, toast for breakfast isn't that terrible, and I don't consider pancakes much more nutritious. I'm sure he still is monitoring a bit.

boombroadcast

Oh yeah, toast is a very normal breakfast, and wheat toast is probably more nutritious than pancakes. I just meant it sucks that even his safe food (presumably) seems to feel overwhelming rn.

Rebel Hart’s The Invisibles Podcast

We are approaching Christmas which was very difficult for Charlie last year and shortly after came his SH relapse. I think under the surface both Nick & Charlie are feeling that while they are also dealing with other challenges. They've both grown as individuals & in their relationship. But mental health struggles are not linear. It's definitely time for a check in with Geoff & for Nick to find a therapist for himself. I think this is a pretty common circumstance for couples who have gone through with Charlie's SH,ED,&OCD. It's not discussed enough that loved ones are also impacted when supporting a loved one. It's a ripple effect and often times other traumas held by the support person can be brought to the surface more quickly as time goes by. Nick has spent so much time & energy learning how to support & care for Charlie. It's wonderful that he was able to do that. Charlie had drawn from his own experience in supporting Nick's coming out. They're still just kids. I love how this is all coming together.

Carrie Lindley

Three quick things: 1. Love that so far this morning the mums have called Charlie “love” and “darling.” 2. I love and relate to Jane so much, and I can feel the mom energy flowing from her in this scene. That’s her baby, and she wants to help him. 3. The panel with Charlie’s fist/ thumb pressed hard against his forehead hit me like a gut punch. Alice, that is such a brilliant drawing of emotion. I can feel Charlie’s frustration with his own brain in the way his hand is clenched and placed. So good!

hayley

charlie getting same feelings nick had in vol4/s3 when charlie was going through his spiral... :( poor things, it will be fine (within probably the next few hours in their time)

hayley

um that would be time for a new therapist? they don't suggest that at all. i highly doubt geoff would suggest that esp knowing how nick is (he'd be likely more to put it into charlie's head that nick has something in his past that's keeping him from opening up) alice said it's uphill from the kitchen scene (with just a few more sad moments) so no relapse and no damage at all to nickcharlie's relationship... charlie knows what a mental spiral can make you do. so yeah..

Elena

It's the fifth panel, where it hits him. It's the point of him realizing what had just happend. This fight with Nick, with the person he loves most, this fight is hurting him so much. It breaks my heart, seeing how sad he is. 😣💔 And then in the sixth panel, this hand placement shows, how much he just DOESN'T want to have any struggles with eating. It feels like he thinks something like: "why can't I just eat?! I don't want to feel like this." This gesture shows his self-blaming of not being able to eat, as much as he cognitively would want to, but isn't mentally able to in this moment, in a brilliant way. 😢

Murgy

Its at times like this that Charlie needs someone outside of his group to talk to. Geoff being perfect for the role. (obviously) But is Charlie in a state to make the decision himself, given the pain he is clearly feeling right now and his issues manifesting badly in the very moment his mum walks in. Jane has gotten better with Charlie over the last couple of years, and its good that we're hopefully about to see that again, likely helping Charlie realise he needs to speak to Geoff, if he can't make the decision himself. Or at the very least provide a big hug, as Charlie clearly needs it. Its a shame right now that Nick only has David home, as he needs a hug from Sarah.
