It’s interesting to see the confidence with Tara and Elle in their relationships with distance versus Nick and Charlie who are no less stable/committed. Elle doesn’t even seem to question her relationship status long distance.

I suspect it could be partly because the other couples have actually talked realistically about the possibility of long-distance, whereas Nick has just tried to avoid that possibility so far by planning to go to Kent. Could also be that different people show/feel their insecurity at different times and in different ways. Maybe Elle’s acting more confident than she feels about it

If Nick plans to be a primary teacher, he doesn’t have a good enough reason to spend a year hundreds of miles away from Charlie. I really don’t care what anyone else thinks because that is the truth.

That's pretty unreasonable. Regardless of his career plans the only reason he needs is "this is the place that feels right to me". They have the rest of their lives together, and giving up a good school because you want to be close to your boyfriend is not really a mature or rational choice.
