Tomorrow we get Charlie’s perspective What we’ve seen of him has been selective Besides exams and the fete Not sure what’s on his plate Meanwhile Nick is still being reflective

This is one of the harder parts about having people pleasing tendencies...making decisions based on how you think other people will react before giving them a chance. When Nick first said that he could go to Kent, he had put basically zero thoughts into his options. And although it is totally normal for students to change their minds before deciding on uni, for someone like Nick, there was a narrative created on how things would play out with him attending Kent. This narrative felt safe and easy and comfortable, and was readily accepted by both Charlie and him and the best part: things would be mostly the same (plus it meant he didn't have to think about uni or leaving again!) It's now taken him 5 days on this trip, many miles, different tours, surprising positive discoveries at Leeds, hard conversations, and lonely, tearful nights for NICK to even consider changing this narrative. How is he supposed to tell Charlie things have changed without feeling like he is betraying the plan, THEIR plan? That is the people pleasing part---he is overthinking how Charlie is going to feel before he gives Charlie a chance to react. I get it...his own heart is torn, and he doesn't want Charlie to feel the heaviness he does. It's scary and hard and just feels so uneasy and uncertain. BUT, I am so glad to hear Nick be able to say that Elle is right and that he should not have told Charlie he was going to Kent...because that is growth for him. It's going to be okay, Nick. I'm nervous too...

I’m eager and anxious to see them together again too. It’s been a bit.

Now two people have said "you're Nick and Charlie" and that they'll be okay, maybe now both Nick and Charlie will be like "what do you mean?" 😂 They will be fine though, they are Nick and Charlie. (I feel so bad for Nick thoughhhhh 😭)

You can totally tell apart the readers who read the Nick and Charlie novella because some people in the comments are like "You're Nick and Charlie 💖😍🥰" and the rest of us immediately had war flashbacks of "-You're Nick and Charlie aren't you? - I don't know what that means" and are currently crying on the floor 😭😭😭💔💔💔

They’re Nick and Charlie the only other fictional couple that are as meant to be are Mal and Ben from Disney’s Descendants

Steven

If you plan to be together, forever, it is absurd to need to “find yourself” separately.

girl are you a 2003 britney spears radio hit? because you sound toxic

Nils

Speaking of Nick&Charlie. It is cute and reason to be envious in a way,but it is fair to them? All their friends refer to them as Nick&Charlie. As if they are only a couple, not really individuals. Maybe I am reading too much in it but still. It's one thing if you are a couple, but it feels a bit off if all your friends only see you as a couple.

Elle is tough love and I live for it

I think you owe it to your partner and yourself to be able to exist as an individual. Plans fall through so often for one thing. But even more than that, depending on someone else to define you is a huge amount of pressure. Healthy relationships are two people who choose to be together. Not two people who can’t exist alone so they have to be together.

They won’t be totally separate. Just doing long distance cause they know going to the Unis that they love is the healthier option

Nils

Thank you Gracie. Thats part of my problem with the Nick&Charlie thing. The comics and books imply that their friends always see them as a unit. So it is an external pressure as well.

I used to believe that as well when I was younger, and I'm going to tell you how I found out that doesn't work, if you want a real life example. My parents both had fucked up childhoods, met when they were 18, and basically built their whole lives around each other. They never really existed separately. This was perfectly fine until my dad passed away from cancer, leaving my mom on her own to raise a teen. Let me tell you my mom is now very mentally ill and basically cannot grieve in a healthy way. Because she never got to build herself as her own person, all she built was half of a person, because the other half was my dad. It's a terrible idea, unfortunately. It doesn't work. Of course we know Nick and Charlie get a perfectly happy ending, but it's still better they exist as individuals :) this doesn't mean they don't love each other or intend on breaking up! I hope you understand where I and so many other people are coming from <3
