A couple of things: "Overcomer" is the name of a huge CCM song. When Thomas Steel shut down 30 years ago, they got my dad and uncle jobs at a steel mill 700 miles away.

So, a few things. My girlfriend grew up in a poor Christian household so she missed out on a lot of movies I would consider to be great movies. So lately I've been getting them and watching them with her, so far I think she's liked almost every one. Well, this weekend her daughter was with her dad and we had nothing to do. She knows about the podcast but hasn't listened to it so when I suggested we go see this movie ironically she didn't know how bad it could be. She stands up about 20 minutes in and says "I'm going to Target, text me when this is over." I think she might've lost faith in my choice of movies after this one.

Aw, they should do ANOTHER Kendrick Bros. movie, Facing The Giants. It's a football movie, one of the brothers plays the lead, God impregnates the lead's wife, it's fantastic.

15 km/h for 20 minutes seem possible to me. I once ran a half Marathon in under 1 h 45 minutes. Thats a median speed of 12.5 km/h. I think back than i would have been able to run 5k in 20 minutes.

I haven't listened to this review yet, but I decided to watch the movie and sum it up in two sentences: You know how in some movies there are touching moments and then for comedic effect some asshole comes in and ruins it? God is that asshole in this movie, and he ruins it vicariously.

A girl named Becca ran cross country with me in high school. I believe her personal best was 17:40 something. And that time wasn't quick enough to win her a state championship, btw. I think last year boys state champ in Michigan ran 14:30 range, and the girls champ ran in the low 17s range. It's so funny to me how we heard the 20 minutes number very differently, I couldn't believe she could possibly be that *slow* and still be the protagonist of a competitive running movie. Lol

Former cross country runner here. You have to be sub 20 to be anywhere near competitive.

The 28 minute 3 mile is the bare minimum to pass the run portion; it's a good way to get yelled at. A perfect run score is 18 minutes (for men), and we had rabbits that would routinely finish in 15 or 16 minutes. If I remember correctly, getting the bare minimum on all three PFT events doesn't give you a passing overall score. President (W) Bush ran 20 minute 3-milers while he was in office.
