This week, we're joined by actual nutrition expert Pixie Turner to break down a movie that tries to convince us that Eli is the pinnacle of health.

Paraphrasing 9/11 reference... Pixie said something about "what happened in November?" My thought was that's what the rest of the world* thinks. * Rest of the world using this calendar

I knew Noah is skinny but is this the first time he mentioned anorexia

Danielle Kemmer

The medical term/symptom anorexia just means lack of appetite or interest in food. Which is very different from the psychiatric diagnosis of anorexia nervosa. I am guessing Noah is referring to the medical descriptor

Surprised by the rosy take on ag-gag bills (1:10:20). The bills in question don't criminalize vandalism, arson, and destruction of property -- oddly enough, there are already laws against those. What they do is criminalize whistle-blowing by prohibiting possessing or distributing photos or videos from inside a farm without the owner's permission, gaining employment at a farm "under false pretenses", and more. I get the desire to denounce violence and distance yourself from the yahoos at PETA and other such organizations, but we would do well to avoid conflating them with people who are doing important work bringing cruel and abusive practices to light. If the message is "don't use the footage these people are getting to call for the deaths of factory farms and their workers", I'm right there with you. If the message is "don't get this footage at all", then I have to register a strong disagree. Putting people who film slaughterhouses on the same level as Al Qaeda does no one any good (save, perhaps, for the owner of the slaughterhouse). https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/anti-whistleblower-ag-gag-bills-hide-factory-farming-abuses-public https://www.aspca.org/animal-protection/public-policy/what-ag-gag-legislation https://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/07/us/taping-of-farm-cruelty-is-becoming-the-crime.html

This show is just lazy. There were parents deep frying cigarettes for their kids and you don't mention Heath and his dad? Okay.

Jen Moore

Vegan ring wraiths are a thing I need to see now.

JCS

Oh my FUCKING GOD!! That was hilarious! Please, please, PLEASE do another episode with Pixie!

Esme

I love this episode (more Pixie!) but the Susan G. Komen Foundation is awful. They literally sue other cancer charities over trademark issues, partner with fracking companies, and pays its executives an obscene amount. The whole thing functions to partner with companies for cause-related marketing.

Ann Ominous

I agree it’s problematic charity but I feel like the episode was going after WHY the documentary went after the Susan G. Moment Foundation. Basically that guy wanted to just attack any major foundation that didn’t preach veganism

Esme

I 100% agree that this movie is total crap. My objection is to them talking about it like it's an actual sympathetic organization
