Oh man guys. Not going home for a parents funeral is definitely a thing. I had a few companions on my mission who's parents died while they were on the mission (wtf? I don't know why). None of them went home for the funeral because we were in England and the Mormon church is SUPER cheap. Hell, I missed my grandmother's funeral for the same reason. In fact, I didn't learn about her death until 3 weeks after she died. Mormons missions are really abusive.

Doug and his tarantula cracked me up. I used to be a huge arachnophobe (I totally called friends over to get rid of spiders, got long distance bug spray, didn't go back out on my own balcony for months after seeing one there) and decided to get over it. I spent a lot of time desensitizing by watching YouTube spider videos. Now I keep tarantulas. Me from three years ago would be horrified.

Re: The Only Mormon in the Family, I used to date a guy who was the only one in his family to convert. Dude was Mexican-American, too (we both grew up Mexicatholic.) He got more devout, I stopped believing... yeah, that relationship didn't go badly at all.
