On this week's episode, Cara joins us for "A Week Away", the story of a kid going to camp and ... that's pretty much it. There's also bad music.

Oh man going through the backlog and finding this treasure is amazing. I was an extra on the set of this movie and it was literally so awful they also didn't tell us it was a Christian movie in the casting call or at any point, I learned from the other extras what it was

Zach Van Stanley

I went to Boy Scout camp when I was a kid in the 90s and 00s and there was TONS of Native American appropriation

Katie McRiff

Omg Cara's from Planoooo me too XD

Katie McRiff

And my actual hs small world lol

Holden Kenne

If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball.

Michael Petro

Cara I'm with yeah... I saw the title and said WTF now what am I gonna listen too... Then I pressed play and went ooooo I'm a dumbass.

Holden Kenne

Also, i think it’s pronounced keckner

Cory Schoelzel

I would give all the money's to watch the gam cast vs cognitive dissonance in dodgeball.

Michael Champion

Wait, dodgeball is an actual thing! I thought it was a joke game made for the film dodgeball. Guess it never came the The UK in the 80's or 90's

Icculus90

French -> Feel -> Finger -> Fuck was definitely the “bases” when I was a kid lol

Niamh Coghlan

I can't speak to the UK, but I played a lot of prisonball (a version of dodgeball) during primary school in Ireland.

Markus D

I grew up in Canada in the 2000s and we played dodgeball! I was in the same category as Noah of being small and fast and therefore being one of the last people on my team frequently. My only problem was that I couldn't throw for fuck. I definitely agree that it could be used for bullying and sexist aggression though.

Markus D

Domhnall Gleeson's first name is said like "Donnel", by the way. He is a celebrity crush of mine...

Markus Ekedahl

I hope Christians hate Twilight because it's Mormon propaganda

Lauren W

So my sister is in her 30s and just discovered that narwhals are real. I've been giving her narwhal gifts at every opportunity since.

Markus D

OH GOD, the ziplining digression! I was wondering what that was all about too and Noah was SAVAGE.

White-hat Asshole

Bad guy is a bad guy because he does sciency stuff. Good guy is a "bad boy" because he saw Twilight.

Recitative is a real word, although I don’t think Eli used it correctly. Recitative (/ˌrɛsɪtəˈtiːv/, also known by its Italian name "recitativo" ([retʃitaˈtiːvo])) is a style of delivery (much used in operas, oratorios, and cantatas) in which a singer is allowed to adopt the rhythms and delivery of ordinary speech. Recitative does not repeat lines as formally composed songs do. It resembles sung ordinary speech more than a formal musical composition.

Cassidy Sokolis

The bases when I was a kid were french, then boob, then oral, then sex.

Rachael Adamczyk

Cara was spot-on with the bad guy reminding me SO MUCH of 'Ders 😂🤣😂

TenaciousB

Always say Song of Solomon is your favorite book of the Bible. It's fun to watch the asker squirm. They want to be angry, because it's "sexy" but they can't because Bible.

Niamh Coghlan

That's not quite right either, but probably close enough for Americans. In Irish, -omh- is pronounced as /o:/ ("doh") whereas the o in Donnell would be pronounced as /ɔ/ ("daw"). Also, 'nel' and 'nal' are pronounced differently. The anglicised version of the name is Donal and pronounced "Doh-nul", rhyming with "modal" or "tonal".

Justin Campbell

I howled with laughter by myself like a crazy person alone in my apartment. This is another one for my YT FavGAM playlist. Cara's laugh is my everything.

Markus D

Yeah, I know, I just wanted to keep it simple for a Patreon comment and I figured "Well, Os make both sounds so I'll leave it at that." I was also deliberating about the "el" thing, but I figured "In English, people say it like 'uhl' so that works". Regardless, thanks for going into more accurate detail.

Niamh Coghlan

Not a problem. Finding any benefits in all those years of attending Gaelscoileanna are few and far between :)

Total Absolutism

I think it could apply, 'cause he's referring to the period mid-Jesus Song wherein the preacher is like, "How are y'all doing tonight? We got anyone from Minneapolis in the crowd today?" etc. Perhaps not a precise usage, though.

The Real Moorey

The team seem to talk a lot about how well the actors sang....am I the only one who thinks it was 100% lip synced?

Trevor F

IM WITH YOU ELI YOUR BASES WERE MY BASES!!!

LittleSgtPepper

When I was in elementary and middle school I lived in California and our church went to a Christian summer camp called Indian Village. And if you're thinking to yourself wow it sounds like there's probably cultural appropriation in that, you'd be very much correct. We slept in 'teepees' and our cabin groupings were all named after different native American tribes, and more...

LittleSgtPepper

The longer I listen to this episode, the more I think you're talking about my camp...

Hoosier Heathen

When I was in high school I went to a christian summer camp. It didn't have a racist Native American name, at least. We were separated into teams and competed all week. I was also so embarrassed when Cara started singing A Place in this World by Michael W. Smith and I remembered how much I loved his music back then!

Ian from wine country

Third base being hand stuff is the whole thing that leads to the title of American Pie.
