We won't have time to record a secular bonus episode this month with the convention and the live show coming up, so we invited Cecil to help us record one while Noah was in Orlando. Enjoy...

Comments

Amy Maua

Oh. My. God. The corn fields alone will be half the episode.

Breandan Kedrowski

Oh god...I don't know if Noah will be happy or pissed he missed this one

Kenneth Afteryou Bauer

The little girl Jackey Neyman Jones wrote a book “Groing Up With Manos”. It’s a must for fans.

Patrick Carr

The only movie the Mads apologized for on MST3K. Sweet!

Cameron Walton

Wait wasn't Lycan Colony the bonus for this month?

Steve Dicus

The Torgo Theme is my ringtone. Saw Rifftrax do this one live and of course I’ve always loved the MST3K episode. Welcome to the deeper chambers of my heart, boys!

Radical Buddhist

Torgo reminds me of the bellhop from 4 Rooms.

Celestial Crafter

Two votes! I got to meet her at the local comic con where I live (she's a regular guest celeb) and her stories are a must listen/read.

TBoneSF

The reason for Torgo's "big knees" was a drug-fueled mistake. No big surprise there. The "prosthetic" (because that's not a legally protected term) legs were meant to convey that Torgo was like a Satyr. The stoned actor wore the prosthetics backwards, giving him the dumb "big knees" look. They were so low budget that once they noticed it, they couldn't go back and reshoot. So they kept it. For continuity they had him wear them the wrong way for the rest of the shoot. The actor being stoned for most of it was probably a good thing because wearing the prosthetics backwards caused him great pain as the metal bits were digging into his thighs whenever he bent his legs even a little bit- which is why his walk is so stiff and awkward.

I’ve read the book! You should too! I’m a life long fan of MST3K . Jackey is teaching an painting class on Twitch for Dumb Industries, an umbrella site that has The Mads ( Crow t Robot guy and TV’s Frank) plus Mary Jo Pehl show also known as Pearl Forester

Catboyslim

I love a man who is proud to park like a dickweed, Eli is one sexy MoFo❤️

Markus D

Oh my gooooood! I would've just said "fuck continuity, wear it right from now on and that can just be one weird scene".

TBoneSF

Would that before or after someone said "Maybe we should have the six year old riding in some sort of safety restraint" or "Maybe we could hire more than one person to voice all the women"? The lady who played the little girl was on the new MST3K streaming service talking about how the whole thing was a bet made by a fertilizer salesman ("I bet you can't make a movie for $19,000") and as a way to highlight the beauty of El Paso as a filming location. So continuity or logic or safety other such things weren't on the amateur's radar. It was all "Git her done!" I mean, you can see the main actor (who is the writer and director) walk towards the camera at the end of the scenes to switch off the camera. That's something easily fixed in editing. So he's not a "details" guy.

Robert Fitzgerald

The little girl made a sequel 50 years later. Manos Returns is $1.99 rental on Amazon.

32:30 - I appreciated that "Lairbnb" joke, Heath.

Justin Campbell

In the military, it was demonstrated to us that sound does travel further at night. Has something to do with humidity or barometric pressure, or something.

Steve Chaput

Hoping the MST-3K guys don’t sue! I am psyched!

Ian (no, not that one)

Hey guys, sound travelling further at night is actually a legit thing. It might be the one thing Manos got right.

Niamh Coghlan

The ending of the movie is even ickier when you learn that your man playing the Master was the little girl's dad in RL. Also, two additional bits of trivia: 1) The guy who made the movie was a fertiliser salesman, and 2) the movie was literally made on a bet that he couldn't make a horror film.

Kristine VanRaalte

What can anyone say except, "Thanks for so much funny when our world feels so bleak."

Mara

I was waiting for them to mention this! I always thought it was the painkillers that made him seem so drugged up - I had no idea he started out on acid. Poor guy.

Atheist101

The greatest episode of MST3K ever, thank you guys for doing this one!!

Julie Wine&Reason

I saw Manos because of Mystery Science Theatre years ago. I'm so happy y'all did this one!

Natalie Kusoge

I love that the Satyr legs are the one bit of continuity they cared about.

Clockworkk

I first saw this movie on MST3K, and I fucking screamed when I saw you guys did this one. This is worth my patronage all by itself. Also, you guys should do the 2003 film “The Gospel Of John,” it’s so goddamn bad. It’s the most whitewashed bullshit I’ve ever seen. They forgot to record some of Jesus' lines, so the narrator has to jump in from time to time to fill in the dialogue. It’s fantastic. Big recommend.

SilentDis

So you are aware: Manos Returns was made by Jackey Jones (the little girl) in 2018. It's as bad as it deserves to be. 2 former co-workers of mine did a bunch of the music for it. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5056154/

Morgen Weeks

Cooler air. Heard an owl guy talk about it on a Backyard Ecology.

Happyninja42

Regarding torgos knees and weird voice, I recall hearing once that the plan was for him to be a pagan goat guy, satyr I believe, with backwards legs. But they didn’t know how to do that so they stuffed his pants and made him talk like a billy goat, and thus we end with the glorious torgo

Ian (no, not that one)

I think it's a mix of that and there's typically less going on to interfere with the sound.

Happyninja42

That's possible, given how many other things they had to just not do, due to lack of skill/budget/stuff, it wouldn't surprise me.

NtimN8r

Did I miss bonus episode #68?

Danielle King

Y'all. MST3K was such an important part of my childhood that I have a picture somewhere of my youngest sister dressed up as Torgo. This shit-show of a movie makes my heart happy.

M.A. Ross

Science nerd time! Yes; Sound does indeed travel farther at night.

Joshua Reinsmith

I've actually watched this movie before but I think I forgot about it in self defense, I got about 20 minutes into the episode before I realized it lol

Catboyslim

The little girl “ Debbie”, real name Jackey Neyman Jones , wrote a book called “ Growing up with Manos the Hand of Fate, How I Was A Child Star In The Worst Movie Ever Made And Lived To Tell about It” said in her book that the doberman kept rolling over on his back for tummy rubs...so much for hounds from hell. she has a cool painting show on Twitch, where she does paint parties,or one on one instruction, cool lady. A lot of MST3K fans paint portraits of their favorite ‘bots.

Nathaniel Arnold

Is that because there's less ambient noise interference?
