#PiaTPJParty2022:

As always, the gang will be doing a live Q&A as part of the video.

Submit your questions below and Tim will aggregate the best questions to be answered during the live stream.

Helpful hints:

1. Ask questions that will have a broad appeal.

2. Questions that have not been asked on previous Q&As.

3. We will ALSO need some Qs for Andrew, Thomas, Anna, Lucinda, and Marsh as well.

4. Be creative!

Note: All Patrons will get an email next week with an exact time and link for the live stream. For now, pencil in Saturday, July 9th in the late afternoon-ish ET.

The event will be recorded for later viewing.

What do you guys think is the best way to deal with aggressive religious family? I am having a non-religious wedding and some family is pissed about it even though they are attending. Thank you ❤️

Zachary Z

Sounds like it solved itself

Vince Klortho, Keymaster of Gozer

In the opening credits for GAM, the word “movies” is repeated four times, with the final one being a much higher register. I imagined this was Noah, Heath, Eli, and Lucinda recording their voices, and the highest one at the end was Lucinda. Is this true, or is it just effects on the same voice? I realized that it just might be me wishing you all lived in the same house and were best friends all the time.

Diana

You touched on this a bit in today's Scathing, but I'd love to hear more about what you'd say to progressives who are planning on staying home in November after being disappointed with the initial Democratic response to Dobbs.

Spooky Luke

Since the supreme court ruled that its our "religious freedom" to lead students in prayer at public school football games, what's the best kind of prayer to make right-wing Christians quickly regret that decision.

Ilan Woll

Crazy billionaire remake of any TV series, but you have to have one member of the Puzzleverse in the cast. For instance, Buffy the Vampire Slayer starring Lucinda Lugeons as Buffy. What is your choice?

AmbyLotl

New patron here, so I'm not sure if it's already been answered, but what is a piece of media that each member would defend to the death for? We've already heard god awful movies, here's hoping for some god awful takes

Mobius Rex

For Andrew: What's the oddest case (you're allowed to talk about) you've handled for Puzzle in a Thunderstorm? What's the coolest, most tricksiest way you've won a case?

Rabid Monk

For Andrew: Why is there such a long period of silence at the end of each OA episode?

Toast

For Marsh: What is your favorite and least favorite stereotypically English foods?

One I'd Nick

Hi Tim! Sorry if any of these have been asked before - new Patron, 1 PJ party.. 1) Lucinda/Anna - who is you favourite member of the PiaT family that you don't share a bed with? 2) Marsh - Which is more painful an experience for you: White Rose events or the accent extravaganza? 3) Everyone - who would win in a slap fight between Eli and Heath? (Place your bets now!) 4) You are only allowed to watch movies by either KSorbs or Davie for the rest if your life - who do you choose and why? 5) The Supreme Court rules all podcasting illegal from tomorrow (same goes for YouTube channels) - what do you do now? I am super pumped for this!

Andrew H

It's probably just Noah's voice pitch shifted for all of them, but I would like to know why they decided to go up at the end.

Andrew H

There have been a few jokes about the PiaT gang being fans of shows like Steven Universe on Citation Needed. I wanted to know who actually does enjoy what might be called "children's media" in their own time and what everyone's favorites are.

Icculus90

Since the world is on fire I figured I would ask a question with nothing to do with current events. While this is mainly for Anna, I think everyone will likely have something to say about it. At what point do you think a pop song goes from being artistic to “corporate”? Is there a certain number of writers or producers that have to be involved? Is it if the performers do not have any participation in the writing of it? I hear people putting down popular music for not being artistic, but almost none of the Motown musicians wrote their own songs. The Beatles are considered artistic, but they were also popular music in their time. I’m sure the real answer here is just going to be a combination of personal opinions and biases, but I would love to hear what people think since I am pretty sure we have a very diverse music taste crowd and at least one person who makes music. Thanks!

Everett Abbott

Driving hand picked tobacco spikes with her varmint hammer?

Everett Abbott

To PiaT crew: As your views have grown and changed through the years (of the shows), what's the one thing you've said or condoned that gives you the most grief? Andrew: are you serious about never trying for office? Why? Marsh: being a cornerstone of the skeptical movement now, are there shows you've done that you'd like to rethink?

Jeremy Eckert

Best Star Trek captain....or for Marsh best Time Lord in Doctor Who.

Wandering_Idiot

Question for Marsh: Why does Europe do so much better with Skepticism than the US? Is the education system better? Is it because the US was founded by religious fundamentalists and we haven’t escaped that mentality? Are Americans just dumber?

Dave McTyre

For Anna and Lucinda, what would be their PIAT podcast, and why don't we have that podcast yet? They both add so much to the other PIAT pods, one with the two of them seems like a homerun.

Lauren W

I would like to know everyone's favorite reptile.

Jacquelyn Howell

Everyone: Favorite person in history and why.

Dreamcrusher

For Andrew and PiAT Crew: How much stuff does Andrew actually nix from production? Can you give us some insight into the review process? Is there any back and forth?

General Contact Unit Problem Child

For Andrew: while the democrats still have control of the senate of the senate could Biden get them to preemptively approve replacements for all the right wing judges should any of them die or retire during hit time in office? Stephen Breyer's replacement was was approved while he was still on the court, is there any rule that says you have to know someone is about leave the court before you can do that?

General Contact Unit Problem Child

For Andrew: Can law makers in blue states do anything to insure their cop read suspects their legal rights, now SCOTUS has basically taken away the right to be mirandized at the federal level?

General Contact Unit Problem Child

For Andrew: You've said you can't argue diminished capacity in court if you were drunk when you committed a crime, because you made the choice to get drunk. What if you didn't get drunk by choice? Suppose I committed a crime while drunk, but I was only Drunk because someone spiked my drink without my knowledge, could I make a diminished capacity defence then?

Flantastic02

General question for everyone i suppose: What's your favourite running joke on any of the shows? Further refined: What's your favourite running joke that you are directly responsible for?

General Contact Unit Problem Child

For Andrew: suppose Trump actually did go to jail over the Jan 6 stuff. Would the prison he was in have any obligation to let him register to run for president again? like do you have some fundamental right to do that even if you're incarcerated?

General Contact Unit Problem Child

For Andrew: Andrew believes the supreme court should be a way for minorities to defend their rights, when there aren’t enough of them to just vote for their rights to be respected. For how much of US history has the court actually fulfilled that function? My understanding of history is the SCOTUS mainly defended the interests of rich white Christians for almost 200 years, then the warren court happened and it sort of did what Andrew wants it to for about a decade, but since then its slowly slipped back to just defending the interests of rich white Christians. It seems weird to me to say the court exists to do something its almost never done.

General Contact Unit Problem Child

For Andrew: Something I find odd about the US is even though your elected officials keep getting more and more reactionary, your popular culture keep getting more and more socially progressive. Like red states are trying to pass laws criminalising letting kids transition, at the exact same time toon Disney is introducing the first non-binary characters in their show. If those two trends continue do you think they'll come into conflict at some point? Like now they have effective control of the Supreme Court, do you think it's plausible a future republican majority will try to pass some modern version of the Hays Code, IE one that would make it illegal to depict LGBTQ people in a positive light in any film or TV show produced in the US?

General Contact Unit Problem Child

For Andrew: Do you think its a fair criticism of prof Eliason to say he puts too much importance on following the Norms & Rules of the system for their own sake? last time you had him on he said he thought it'd be "improper" impeach Justice Thomas for something his wife did. In all honestly I'd support impeaching him for having a reseeding hairline if I thought it'd work. I honestly wouldn't care what the pretext was if it got rid of him.

General Contact Unit Problem Child

For Andrew: What are the Checks and balances in your government system actually for? American patriots tend to argue they prevent tyranny, but given I come from a country that lacks almost all of those checks but you are closer to fascism than us, IE the U.K. I can’t help but think they actually exist to prevent popularly supported change. I don’t think the founders would have created the one of the legislative branches (the senate) as an internationally more elite body if they didn’t want that.

Gina Va

Caliente! 🥵

Els

This might be way too nitty gritty or boring for some (or just too private to share), but since I've been wondering this for a while: how does PIAT work financially? Do you pay yourself a monthly salary? Is it episode-based? Do you pay your guests, especially the ones on GAM? If you get more patreon donors, do ya'll get a raise?

Els

Question for everyone: last book you read and would you recommend it?

Els

Question for Anna: Eli shares a lot of... personal stuff on the shows sometimes, and it's not always clear how much of it is in jest. Is that something you folks discuss(ed)? How do you feel about this?

Els

Question for Marsh: How much effort does it take you to stay so nice during "Be Reasonable" interviews? Is this a learned skill for you, or something you have always been good at? Any advice for listeners who want to get better at this?

Apocalypse Cowboy

Question for GAM: Have you ever worried about the Streisand Effect when it comes to reviewing movies? i.e. Concerns that shedding light on a given movie would it give it undue attention and potentially give it more viewers

Everett Abbott

Being poor and having to work manual labor at a young age probably rank up there. Can't remember when this was mentioned, but it stuck with me.

Tom jackson

Any chance there would ever be a bonus episode of just outtakes or would Morgan just quit?

Tom jackson

For Andrew: Would you describe Merrick Garland as a good AG?

Asexual Asshole

All Panel Questions: Other than "measure twice, cut once"- what is a piece of wisdom someone passed down unto you that you still use? What's the best insult/curse you've ever heard? Whose grave would you rather shit on: Mitch McConnell or _____? When did you know you were an atheist? Which dinosaur would you ride into battle and why? What was the most awkward time you had to explain you're a podcaster? Potatoes are wonderfully versatile; what is the superior potato product? (chips, mashed, soup, alcohol, baked, etc.) Finally, an All Panel Challenge: knowing what you know about each other, what would you guess to be each other's Super Evil Villain names? (Example - Marsh could be The Guy Who Silently Judges You During an Interview.)

RuffleButtSarah

For anyone and everyone- if podcasting were to no longer exist tomorrow, what job would you apply for? (Also assuming you can’t be on the radio, tv, or posting videos on social media)

Asexual Asshole

This question might be a bit of a downer, but... In light of the New and Unimproved American Theocracy (tm), I imagine there will be an intense and elongated dissent from US citizens. As more and more Black Lives are lost, forcibly pregnant persons are dead, and children are denied any ability to express their truest selves leading to taking their own lives... I feel as though the first volley (death knell) has been fired against the citizenry, which can only cause eventual violence. (An eye for an eye/death for a death) Which leads to my question: The US military swore an oath to "defend against threats both foreign and domestic"; how long do any of you expect until the US military is called upon to "defend itself" against us? How long will we be allowed to defend our lives until some GOP in power calls upon the military? Sorry for the downer, but I have come to respect your thoughts on certain areas and would value your educated/researched opinions.

Steve Payne

My guess is "It's complicated."

Steve Payne

When did Eli become a vegan? Was it a transition? Pescatarian/Vegetarian/Vegan. Why is he one. I assume he doesn't eat honey, eggs, or cheese too.

Steve Payne

Are Noah and Lucinda planning to move from South Georgia, now that Lucinda's father has passed? If so, have they got ideas/favorites/goals?

DaMonaLeisa

Last thing you googled ?

Leslie Marchant

For everyone: Tell us about your pets! Tell us your happiest memory! Tell me you love me!

Els

For everyone: What aspect/segment do you love most of one of the podcasts of those around that you are not on? And what would you i mediately change if you main-hosted one of the other podcasts?

Rachael Adamczyk

Would you consider doing recorded episodes of GAM for the movies you've already covered at Live shows? I would love to hear your takes on Passion of the Christ, Loose Change, etc, but my misophonia prevents me from listening past the "WOOOOS" of the audiences 🤣.

General Contact Unit Problem Child

For Andrew: could the North Carolina redistricting case effectively end democracy in the US if the SCOTUS embarrasses the independent state legislator doctrine in their rulling?

Bob Brown

This is a question for Andrew. Since the right to privacy is not enshrined in the Constitution and doesn't date back to 13th century Saxony, how would you word a hypothetical amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing the right to Privacy.

General Contact Unit Problem Child

FYI this got like 21 upvotes when I posted in the last OA Q&A thread (the one Andrew cancelled because he got covid) so if you pick any from me it should probably be this one.

Marie-Pierre Gauthier

Marsh is Giles, Anna is Anya. I can see Noah as either Willow or Spike... that's weird. Eli for Xander maybe? That leaves Angel for Heath... Cara could be Cordelia, or Drusilla... Thinking out loud, sorry. Love Buffy!

Jess Donovan

I wanna see the GOP argue for felons to have voting rights and be able to run for office etc etc

Pinesnake

How does Marsh feel regarding being found out about being responsible for covid so he could keep the skeptic of the year award, and despite having covid twice?

VermanShane

Question for all or whoever wants to answer. Crazy Billionaire money what would be the perfect video game to make for you?

Peter Kyrouac

2 Questions for Andrew Torrez: 1. When you regularly purchase/download documents from the PACER website, do you ever use the RECAP extension? 2. When you lived in Springfield, Illinois, did you ever eat a Horseshoe, and if so, did you like it? For clarity: RECAP is a browser extension which allows the documents you just purchased from PACER to be available to the rest of the public for free on the Court Listener website. A "Horseshoe" refers to a dish commonly found in Springfield, IL made by putting a meat/meat-like substance (hamburger, mushrooms, chicken) upon a piece of Texas toast, covering the meat with some form of potato (commonly fries,) and then covering the entire dish with cheese sauce.

So, we come to the end of this

For everyone: As people who have spent years now constantly staring at the worst and most depressing news stories, and ruminating on the same in order to write content about them, how do you keep a level head? Lately I've had trouble being at all productive with the state of things and my job doesn't mandate staring them in the face. I'm curious as to your perspective on how to march forward.

Chris W

Three questions - Marsh - when are you starting the SkeptiBrit? We need something similar for UK political batshittery. Andrew - we're constantly told that we will be judged by god one day. Okay fine, would you be able to make a defence in that 'heavenly' court to defend us, maybe highlighting god's omniscience and omnipotence and therefore culpability? Eli - when did you become a vegan and what directed you towards that decision?

daniel martin

3 for Marsh: what led you to end up in Merseyside? Will you explain to the scathing lads the difference between your accent and a Merseyside (or Liverpool/Scouse) accent? Are you still active in the Merseyside skeptics and should I join? I know that was 4 questions really, I got carried away....🤷

Raine Newport

Question for everyone: In a game of volcano toss which three people would you toss into a volcano? Who would you lower in terminator style?

Amanda Horne

Who is your dream guest for your respective shows? Anyone alive.

Total Absolutism

Asked last time but I don't think it went through; for everyone, if you could re-review any movie you've done on GAM which one would it be?

Benjamin Kimberlin

I'm posting this here only because this is the most recent thread, but this question is for Andrew Torrez. What would you say to a University of Virginia educated lawyer who says that Legal Eagle doesn't get most of his videos right, and that he lets his political bias color the facts of any case that he covers? And yes I am referring to somebody specific. Not someone who is a public figure, but someone who is in my personal life.

One I'd Nick

The guys are sewn into a human centipede - what order are they sewn in?

One I'd Nick

Lucinda - which GOPer would you most like to take the varmint hammer to? Anna - if you could replace any member of your D&D Minus party with any fantasy/sci-fi character, who would you replace Dave with?

Amanda

Anna, do you still play Merge Dragons? I've been playing it for so many years!

Rachael L

Anna: your Biblepiece Theatre songs are so good. Do you or any of the gang, have a favourite lyric from any of them?

Tim, Yes that Tim - the social media guy

Last chance to get your Qs in for the #PiaTPJParty2022 so Tim can curate them for the AMA. If you’re a patron, you will get an email invitation in the next day or two.

Scott Bigleman

For Andrew, how bad is the West Virginia v EPA decision?

One I'd Nick

4! I'm saying 4, but he won't be able to solve any of them (without peeling the stickers off)

One I'd Nick

Who wins in a fight between a libertarian bear & a Republican leopard?

crystaloftruth

How do I get back out into the world after a couple of years at home alone? I need to find work but I find the world completely unapproachable

crystaloftruth

Better question, have any of you had issues going back into the world after 2 years of lockdown? (I'm from Melbourne)

Darth Chimay

Were we supposed to get an email with a link telling us where the party is?

Sam Armstrong

Probably too late but q for Heath: any particular scotch that's caught your eye this year?

Eric Meyer

what is heath's opinion on flavored whiskeys? I had a cheap vanilla (cake) flavored whiskey last week that was genuinely one of the best alcoholic things I've ever tasted...

DaMonaLeisa

Can you guys make a "You are part of the wave" edit specifically for my funeral please ? thank you

DaMonaLeisa

Wow Noah read my question and even said my name correctly and Eli answered it Good shit 😊
