I am only at the part where Heath called the El Camino the "mullet of cars," and I have laughed soooooo much already. This is GAM at its best. When I try to refer my friends and family to this podcast, they think they have to be able to picture the movie in order to get it. For me I do other things and periodically re-focus on the show in time to hear yet another hilarious joke and it doesn't matter that I have only the smallest understanding of the movie. Maybe that's why I have listened to this show all the way through so many times. I have caught something new each episode every time!!

On the subject of being recalled: Marine Corp veteran here and yes if you get recalled you would want to wear the uniforms you left with if they still fit. Otherwise you'd have to buy new ones to wear. You get a clothing allowance as part of your pay, but the only clothing the government paid for directly was damaged in the line of service which requires a form explaining the damage or loss and you hope it gets approved.

Sadly no, that was a legit question. After listening to so many of these, I was expecting the 'hero' would kidnap the youngest cast member and 'convince' them they were right. That was the plot of at least one Christmas movie they've previously reviewed.

I just realized, when it was pointed out that his character has no arc, that far too many of these Christian movies are like that. The main character is written to be the ideal being and doesn't change, it's the rest of the world that's supposed to have an arc by coming to agree that he (it's always a he) is right.

Seems just a tad ridiculous to have to jump through hoops for a clothing allowance. I think this information should be more widely-known. We all get money added to our paycheck every year to cover uniform items like new boots, replace a worn uniform, etc., but unless it happens during training, combat, and some incidents during transport you're expected to cover any damaged or lost gear and even then it can be a pain to get it replaced depending on how supply is run wherever you're stationed.

I want to push back on Heath's suggestion that the character was in any way named after John Quincy Adams. Adams spent his life decrying slavery; he's the only early president never to have owned a slave. His father is the only "founding father" who never owned a slave and ALSO spent his life speaking out against the evils of slavery. Near the end of his life, John Quincy Adams represented in court a group of African men who were taken as slaves, who killed their slavers and took control of their ship - the Amistad - and not only did Adams WIN, he then arranged for these men to be returned to their home country as free men, DECADES before the Civil War. There is a ZERO percent chance that the makers of this film regard John Quincy Adams as anything but some kind of communist antifa race traitor.

The free food, housing, and healthcare was nice though. Some months I spent every penny I had but I still ate great meals, had electricity, and a place to sleep. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It has it's perks. 😅

...Oh boy. This is feeling too familiar to a dude we have here in St Cloud Minnesota. He is literally google-able as St Cloud Superman and he is very much like this dude.
