Jimi is one of my favorite artists, Julie. After emerging in 1966, his career only lasted four years before his untimely death, but he rewrote the book on how to play guitar. To this day, he's considered by many the best to ever pick up the instrument. I recommend you check out the film of him and the Experience (his band) performing at the Monterey International Pop Festival in 1967. His entire set was filmed, and it's, in my opinion, one of the great live performances ever captured. You will not be disappointed. Another recommendation would be his performance of 'Voodoo Child' on the Lulu Show in 1969. And finally, the performance of 'Machine Gun' with his other band, Band of Gypsys, at the Fillmore East in New York on New Year's Eve 1969/1970. The film of that performance isn't the best quality-wise, but the performance is out of this world.
