Heather’s life began in the shadow of tragedy, born on a small island in the Barbaric Archipelago to a Viking family known for their skill in crafting dragon-hunting weapons. Her early years were filled with the scent of forge fires and the clanging of metal, her father a gruff but loving blacksmith who taught her to wield a hammer before she could wield a sword. Her mother, a healer with a gentle touch, balanced the harshness of Viking life, showing Heather the value of compassion in a world that often prized strength above all. But that world shattered when Heather was just eight, as a rival clan raided their island, seeking her father’s weapons. In the chaos, her parents were killed, and her older brother, Dagur, was taken—leaving Heather alone, clutching her father’s last gift: a small dragon-tooth necklace, a promise of the family she’d lost.

Orphaned, Heather was taken in by a neighboring tribe, but their kindness came with a price. She was treated as an outsider, a burden, forced to work for her keep—hauling water, mending nets, her hands calloused by ten. The whispers of her brother’s survival, whispered by traders, lit a fire in her: Dagur was alive, now the berserk leader of the Outcasts, twisted by rage and power. Heather vowed to find him, to understand what had happened, even if it meant facing the darkness he’d become. She learned to fight, sneaking into training yards to mimic the warriors, her small frame growing wiry and strong. By fifteen, she’d stolen a boat and set out, her only companion the necklace and a burning need for answers.

Her journey led her to Berk, where she first met Hiccup and the dragon riders, their peace with dragons a stark contrast to the hatred she’d grown up with. Heather was wary—trust didn’t come easy—but Astrid’s fierce loyalty and Hiccup’s quiet determination cracked her walls. She revealed her past in fragments, her amber eyes guarded, but the riders gave her a new purpose: a dragon of her own. Windshear, a Razorwhip she found injured in a storm, became her partner, their bond forged in mutual survival. Heather trained relentlessly, learning to ride, to fight alongside Windshear, her axe strikes as sharp as her dragon’s tail. She joined the riders on missions, her skills invaluable, but her heart remained torn—loyalty to her new friends warring with her need to confront Dagur.

Facing her brother was a crucible. Dagur’s madness, his obsession with power, broke her heart all over again, but it also freed her. She saw the monster he’d become, the cost of vengeance, and chose a different path. With the riders’ help, she brought him down, not with hate but with the hope he could change—a hope her mother would’ve been proud of. Dagur’s eventual redemption, slow and painful, became a mirror for Heather’s own healing. She stayed with Berk, carving out a place as a rider, a friend, a warrior who’d turned her pain into strength. The dragon-tooth necklace still hung at her throat, a reminder of where she’d started, but now it was joined by a new mark—a tattoo of Windshear’s scales on her arm, a symbol of the family she’d found.
