I bought a bottle of True Blood from Hot Topic when this show came out, lol. Supposedly it was just dyed orange soda-like drink. But I never drank it.

I personally don't remember anyone mentioning the politics of it....at least in the early seasons. But I think when the show first came out and became popular, people i knew were just having fun watching it. I was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan back in the day, so this show was great for those of us that grew up on that. Plus Obama becoming president, I think some people felt more relaxed for some time? I THINK this show revitalized the Vampire craze.

as far as the "algorithm" goes, honestly there's not a lot of competition on YT rn in terms of True Blood Reactions. I think there's only one lady who has even finished the whole show. You guys and Horror Bandwagon are the only people who have a significant following that i know of who are starting this show here in 2026. and Daddy Alexander Skarsgard trending again has brought this show back into people's minds a bit.

Omg same, I just kept it on my shelf in my crazy decorated room. I even packed it up with all my other little treasures and moved it halfway across the country lol! I totally had forgotten about that until you reminded me 😝

As far as the politics of the show and how people responded, it was actually a much nicer time to live in with most things. There wasn’t any MAGA yet, instead there was a very loud, obnoxious but fairly small far right group called the Tea Party. And religious extremism was in the minority at the time too. Yes, they were working hard to manipulate the public into believing their crazy lies - and obviously they eventually became very successful in doing so as time went on. But back then, your average citizen was more relaxed and had begun to embrace some more progressive views. Which is why a show featuring social commentary about intolerance and bigotry wouldn’t have been thought of as controversial but just the norm. I can so strongly remember how hopeful things felt because of it. So crazy how far we backslid in such a short time.

Yeah I've literally only found 2 youtubers that reacted to this show. But considering how people have been finishing up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it seems this show will be the older vampire watch. Plus its been released on so many streaming platforms now.

Tea Party didnt actually start until after (they formed bc of Obama) but I wouldn’t call it nicer. ICE was still around and just as violent, we were still occupying Iraq and destroying the country, people were voting against gay marriage even in California, drill baby drill chants and over half the country denied climate change, police brutality had been causing uprisings since the 60s and were still alive and atrocious, etc. The internet and social media just weren’t developed enough to get the word out to the “mainstream” so it seemed more nice and peaceful to the average American. Trump isnt just Bush 2.0, Bush did MORE damage to this country and the world than him, fundamentalism was mainstraim in the right, Dick Cheney and them just had more tact and knew how to move silently. They were actually encouraging vigilante groups in the south to go out and trap immigrants. These groups were not represented, and even in this Lafeyette is the sexualized comedic relief (love him but it was nowhere close to media like Love Simon or Heartstopper) there was *a lot* of complicity. Love this show but I think the lack of pushback went both ways and times are better now regardless of that it’s more reported on. People are more vocal because the bafoon in office is more openly vocal abt how the right was moving since Regan. As a queer WOC, today is much much better.

Obama became president after this came out. Sorry but minorities were not at all relaxed bc no one was standing up for us like today. People were more complicit, apathetic, and not knowledgeable about these things.

If i remember correctly the anti-vampire extremists were based more on Wesboro baptist church and less on the tea party, hence the reoccurring "god hates fangs"

I’m rewatching and I don’t think anyone addressed these questions in the comments! 1. We are called Trubies (or Truebies). I forget where the name came from but there are lots of media with the cast & crew where they refer to the fans as Truebies. 2. The song was a placeholder that was put in by the company that designed the credits. They couldn’t find anything they liked more so they just kept it, which really brought Jace Everett some needed publicity as he was an anti-Bush country musician who spent a lot of time in France. 3. After you finish the entire show, I recommend checking out Truest Blood. It’s a podcast that came out during the pandemic about the show that’s hosted by Deborah-Ann Woll (Jessica) and Kristen Bauer von Straten (Pam). They talk about the episodes and interview cast and crew and the book series author. But it has lots of spoilers so don’t listen until you finish the whole show.

Right?! The entire post9/11 atmosphere was poison and extremely hostile and ugly. I don’t know why the fk people are getting nostalgic for the goddamn George Bush Dick Cheney years! Somebody would have to have a shitton of privilege to think the 00’s weren’t awful for women, minorities and LGBTQ and the first steps in what landed us here in 2026. The people saying how much better things were back then are the reason people didn’t believe Trump would be what he ended up being and called the rest of us who saw it coming hysterical and paranoid.
