This one should have been simple. Background reference from two angles, one of which would be re-used multiple times. Characters in the scene for scale reference, nothing complicated. Except, I'd forgotten that I did not have a model of a couch like what I'd planned for. The one I do have is curved, but I needed it to be straight. Having to reshape it or model a new one was just enough to take the wind out of my sails. I really, really did not want to have to work in 3D any more than I'd already planned...

Of all of these, the first one took me the longest to figure out. I'd scribbled it, but wasn't sure I could make the pose work in perspective on my own. Once I'd started posing it in 3D... I'd also forgotten just how ridiculously tall Rose is. She'd have to reach pretty far to place her hand on the armrest, but then that can also help to sell just how tired she is.

Her tallness became an issue again in the pose where she sits up straight, before deliberately falling over. For the pose to work as I'd draw it, her feet need to be moved through the floor. They likely won't be seen in the final panel, so it won't be a problem.

Now that setting up my reference has take a couple days or so longer than expected, I feel torn. The most sensible thing would be to move forward, and get at least some of these panels drawn. But I also feel like I need to get back to Zbrush sooner rather than later, since I still have not played with it enough for things to really sink in. I have a growing list of notes that I'd like to not have to keep relying on. Bouncing between both is also an option, but I also want to just FINISH something, and this comic would be quicker to complete than anything in 3D.

The Last Dragon in Éire

Looks good! At a glance, that first frame looks like something out of a horror film. :)
