9:00 Lia youre spot on!! a part Eren wanted to do the rumbling, a large part of him. He even says "i wanted this" and "i wanted to wipe it all away" out loud. I get why mollys saying what shes saying tho and shes really locked in, but he wouldnt never have seen visions of the rumbling if its not something he didnt want to do. I think its cause we think of baby eren and we're like dear heavens no he would never WANT to do this.

I would seriously recommend you watch Neon genesis evangelion at some point... Attack on titan references it so often in both plot and even exact shots... The first time I watched season 1 of aot it was very clear that the person who made it was as big of an Evangelion nerd as me... It's one season and a movie to finish it... Anywayyy I'll stop wasting your time lol

Reiner best character development hands down. Favorite character in the whole show.

Historia's farmhand husband always felt like some high degree of straightwashing gaslighting combo. Historia and Ymir as a lesbian couple were never even allowed to unambiguously exist and then Historia was sidelined for the rest of the series and given a straight romantic partner we never even see whom she has children with. It was so much more obnoxious than just the standard "Kill your gays" trope.

I agree with the sidelined part, but her story had nothing to do with straight washing. She's royal and thus is expected to bear children, even more so given how important the blood is. It's a tragedy, but so much of this show is. Her relationship with the farmhand was never about romance but necessity.

"But if the world had seen the Rumbling on a smaller scale, wouldn't they have been scared and given up on attacking Paradis?" This is one of the points I believe Lia really missed. The answer is no, they wouldn't have. Eren himself addresses this when he talks to Armin and the group on the plane heading toward him: "I won't leave the fate of Paradis Island to chance." With the ongoing development of technology, the power of the Titans was bound to lose its status as the forefront of military might soon. And the world of *Attack on Titan* mirrors our own: peace only exists when all nations have the means to ensure mutual destruction (i.e., no one is weak enough that, if attacked, they couldn't inflict significant damage on their attacker). "Oh, so why don't they just destroy the military bases?" Destroying military bases is part of the ideas that would "buy a few more years" and simply kick the problem down the road. Let’s remember that Titan shifters have short lifespans—just 13 years. If they used the Rumbling to attack military bases, Historia would have to become the Beast Titan, and Eren would have to pass on his Founding Titan, essentially condemning two people to shortened lifespans. Furthermore, it would also doom Historia and her lineage to continue the tradition of Titan inheritance. This might not seem like a serious or significant issue to viewers, but for Eren, it was *extremely* important: "I won't let children eat their parents anymore." This mattered so much to him that he only explained his plan to two people, one of whom was Historia. Moreover, there’s another key point: delaying the problem brings us back to the first question. Military technology will continue to advance and, at some point, will outpace the power of the Titans. Delaying isn’t solving. "And why don’t they try to negotiate a peace agreement?" Think about it: imagine if the world agreed to a peace treaty with Eren, Armin, Historia, and the current Eldians, who, as far as we’ve seen, genuinely sought peace. Who can guarantee that the next generation of Titan shifters would be as well-intentioned? What if the next inheritor had a mindset like Floch’s? Do you see how, from the perspective of the world’s nations, it’s impossible to trust a medium- or long-term peace agreement with a race of people who can transform into Titans? With a group that holds millions of Colossals within the walls, capable of flattening the entire world at any moment?

You guys should look at the character development of Floch and Jean

What you are saying is just incorrect. Yes, the outside world would be afraid to attack Paradise after a small-scale rumbling. It is repeated by Armin and Hange multiple times that would be the case. Even with the ongoing technology, taking down the rumbling is another thing entirely. It is also incredibly risky as if they are unable to it would mean they would be sealing their fates. It is a situation of MAD regarding the power of the founding in this case. As no one would risk taking on the founder or the power of the rumbling. The entire reason this story occurred the way that it did is that Paradise did not have access to this power and Marley knew it. Also, Eren never brings up technological advancement as a way to justify his actions, the power of the rumbling is too great. Destroying a military doesn't simply kick the problem down the road, it destroys the ability of the country to attack and ruins it economically. It isn't something they can easily come back from and even if they could, they can just attack with the rumbling again and cripple them again. Eren is being entirely selfish here (that is the point of his character), even Historia is willing to go along with it if it means peace. Eren does not, he rather kill everyone outside the walls. He explained his plan to Historia because it was vital for her to know so he could get her to cooperate. Marley military tech wouldn't advance if they could literally rumble their entire military away. Also, this implies Paradise wouldn't have at access to Marley tech at this point or wouldn't try to bridge the gap. Why would Paradise sit on their hands and allow for the rest of the world to continue to outpace them? People who pitch these scenarios make Paradise incompetent and remain isolated. But in reality, they would form treaties and trade agreements with other nations, they have a great amount of natural resources and many would see having them as allies as a great benefit, especially against Marley, also it would help secure their nation against the threat of being rumbled. So because the next generation may not be able to uphold the peace and might do something bad, he should just commit genocide? Even Eren does not make this point. With this logic, all attempts to go for peace are meaningless because somewhere down the future someone might disagree. Also, Paradise would keep tight control on who gets the power, the idea of a radical like Floch being given it would be unlikely in that case. You contradict yourself, the power of the Titans is already being elapsed, so them being Titans wouldn't give them much of an advantage right? Also, this ability existed for 2000 years with an entire empire ruling over everyone. Yet peace was created, yes the Eldian Empire did horrible things, but this idea that this power simply existing is the sole roadblock that makes peace impossible is not correct, it is much more complicated. Only 9 people at a time can be Titans, the rest of the eldians (unless forced to become pure Titans) would live as regular humans. Also, what do you mean by trust? With the power of the founder and the rumbling Paradise can make any other nation comply, they can threaten them to sign a peace treaty and if they don't well, you get rumbled. Simple. This strategy was something that the scouts wanted to avoid which is why they went to the outside world, they didn't want to go with the 50-year plan which results in them being threatening and ruling with fear. Hell, they could even go further than threaten, to do something Floch would be onboard with and overthrow Marley and free all the eldians from the internment zone, reestablishing the eldian empire lol. With the power of the rumbling and founder, both would be possible and accomplishable in Eren's lifetime. If you want a better understanding of my point go read or watch the Kenny episode. that chapter was re-released with the final chapter, and it is important when understanding the ending and the conflict in general. Kenny and Uri's relationship can be seen as a microcosm of the conflict between Eldia and the rest of the world.

Great Questions and answers ,t he word is compatibilism for Erens nature. There isn't a character paradox because part of Eren was always who he was since a kid , So even a kid Aaron would have pushed his dad into killing the reiss family. What I think is unique about aot is that it really replicates the emotional weight on how a oppressed people would actually feel considering we spent 3 seasons seeing our people being tortured by the marleans without knowing it. I've seen dozens of shows where it's easy to show how oppressed people can easily bypass their trauma but it's simply not realistic when you are being living under constant fear , especially when it's an unjust cause on your oppression Isyaama did a good job making us anticipate that the was supernatural with the Titans but the main source was human in nature

Hingu

Love your takes. Huge debates on forums and Reddit about who's in the right or wrong. That's what makes this story so interesting! The fact that many people support and justify Eren's actions despite how terrible the consequenses are. Aot is not just about the action, but also reflects human nature

Hingu

However, I wish a small scale rumbling would solve the problem. Imagine if the entire world formed an alliance (Tyber Willy and global powers) and declared total war on America (paradis) with the goal of obliterating it out of existence. Would a nuke on China (small scale rumbling) be enough to deter war indefinitely? I think not. If anything, it further antagonises Paradis as the 'island devils' and once technology surpasses the power of Titans, that small scale rumbling WILL be remembered and retribution/ vengeance WILL occur. It's a bandaid to the problem, but won't resolve the issue. Furthermore, Paradis will be forced to sacrifice Historia and it's future generations to keep the power of Titans alive. Peace talks were impossible, evident from when our cast of characters visited Marley for the first time and planned on negotiating at the summit. Either a smaller scale genocide was bound to happen on Paradis Island or on the rest of the world. Zekes plan of putting an end to it via euthanisation of Paradis as inhumane as it sounds, made logical sense to prevent war and reduce casualties I'm not supporting Eren or the Jaegarists in any way, but that was the only solution Eren could see to save Mikasa, Armin, his people and homeland. He chose to be selfish. He chose to become the villain. And he chose to sacrifice his life to ensure his loved ones 'live long and happy lives'.

Hingu

Should have asked you guys what you think of Zeke's euthanisation plan after knowing everything that happened 😂😂😂 And who you think Erwin would have supported had he been alive and learnt the truth about the world 🤔

I mean, I don't like Genocide as a moral choice. But Isayama making it a thematic choice for the narrative was brilliant. The ultimate product of the millennia of the cycles of violence is Eren, personified in the most destructive way. If we don't approach geo-political problem-solving in a diplomatic, mutually-beneficial way, someone with power can feel boxed-in into making the only choice they feel like will bring about their desired solution. In WW2, if the Japanese Empire had just surrendered to the Allies and come to a peace discussion, the USA wouldn't have had to drop 2 nukes and massacre 250,000 civilians to end the war. This act is still under discussion as to whether it was right or wrong. With regards to Eren, of course he had Free Will, the ability to make informed choices, more than anyone in the show I'll argue. BUT, in order to achieve his desired goals (protect Historia and his friends + protect Paradis from the World's declaration of war on them + from the existence of Titans itself + within his 4 year lifespan left), this was his path. And the reason he was able to continue on with this morally reprehensible path (which also manages to achieve his goals), was his vision of eradicating the outside world, which is filled with hatred and racism and cruelty. AND, he was not ready to leave achieving his goals up to chance, which was the Partial Rumbling. Nor was he ready for Euthanasia, because he was "born into this world".
