Hey all, I wanted to make a post on here since I didn’t have a chance to include my editing Lia thoughts in the reaction to the episode. So, here is my written review of the series finale and if you would like, let me know what your opinion was in the comments of this post!

Overall, I felt meh/okay about the finale. I don't think it's Game of Thrones level bad and I found the episode to be entertaining with good moments (Homelander losing his powers, The Deep screaming NOO, and Ashley helping, being some examples). I also appreciated the parallels to the first episode with Hughie, especially how it started and ended with him on the sidewalk lol. Plus, the acting from Antony Starr and Karl Urban were a big highlight.

With that being said, the writing and pacing were messy. It felt very rushed overall due to: the previous episodes being lackluster + having so much packed into this last one. Also, I personally found the amount of "edgy/vulgar" dialogue to be cringe and unnatural. If you compare the amount used in this season vs Season 1, it is night and day. It's fine to utilize that type of dialogue for shock value or humor in the right context but, there needs to be a better balance with an actually thoughtfully crafted script. It gets old very fast and loses its purpose when it is every two minutes.

Finally, the episode felt very cheap looking: the sets and cinematography were lacking for a series finale episode with such a big budget show. To nitpick a bit more, the lack of extras and small sets made the show feel empty. I won't go into the missed opportunity to have Homelander be more deadly/go on a massacre since I already touched on it during the discussion in our video.

Again, it was an entertaining episode with some solid moments. However, it had the potential to be much better than it was.

Very reasonable review. I'm personally of the belief that this was the best possible finale the show could have had with the setup it already made in the past 7 episodes. That doesn't mean the past 7 episodes couldn't have been better imo, they definitely could have been better, but standalone I think episode 8 did its best given the circumstances (the circumstances being a lackluster season overall imo) but yeah definitely not GoT level bad.

I have no strong feelings about the finale either. Could have been better but apart from a few highlight episodes, this season and the past have been subpar. The ending credits with the whole crew was wholesome and the cast/crew seemed to have a lot of fun working on the show so that's a plus. My hottest take is, as vulgar and crass as the comic is, its better because its absolutely committed to the bit. Its literally page turning and visceral reactions (good and bad) are worth it. The show's a different medium and I feel like they sort of lost the plot halfway through - might have been more appropriate to end at the season where The Boys had superpowers, Soldier Boy got to kill Homelander, and the Boys were kinda there to counter him and other superheroes afterwards.

Completely valid. My main issue is that it could’ve been more. I think that the Finale is partially a symptom of the rest of the season which itself is a result of S4. Outside of all the fun stuff, I think the actual quality begins to decrease the deeper into the show you get.

I liked it, but I didn’t love it. So I felt the same way I suppose. I was hoping for a lot more with the series as a whole because I absolutely love the story the books tell. It just had more emotional weight to its events and they hit different for me. But I feel like with this finale in particular it seemed like the budget was spent on effects and they tried to cram three episodes into one. I’m not going to speculate about why but it felt poorly laid out from the start of the season.

I just hope now that all this business is behind us we can get back to invincible at last

Biggest problem I had was the finale was the power scaling. Homelander fly's a guy into space and comes back in 2 seconds early in the episode, but then during the fight he's flying around the room like a confused moth trapped inside a lampshade.

It’s crazy out of all the reactions I’ve watched this is most anticipated one lol
