I have been watching and rating standalone anime movies for a while, I'd like to suggest 3 of my fav romantic anime movies from my list in case you want to see more: Your name (2016, CoMix Wave) Weathering with you (2019, CoMix Wave) I want to eat your pancreas (2018, VOLN)

mariacake

Yesssss! Let's go!

miki

The Mist is elite ball bro

Tyan Yellow

One of the few things I think should’ve been watched in dub

Cherrie

Yeeeeees, I was waiting for this. 🥰

Zee_muji

I want to eat your pancreas is so much sadder than silent voice, silent voice still a good watch but these people overhyped tf outta it

LEYØ

It really is, that one is absolutely devastating, I watched it twice and teared up both times

Moroni W

So some interesting stuff. This movie was adapted from a manga like a lot of anime but being a movie it did have to cut a lot of content. So I’ll point out some interesting stuff. The teacher in the manga was more explicitly bad… the child bullying section was more drawn out and so we saw the teacher would occasionally actually laugh at the mc’s jokes about Shoko. Later in the manga the mc meets the teacher again and the teacher basically says certain people like Shoko just kinda ruin things for other’s essentially The random outsider dude (Toshi) who was friends with the blonde girl used to be bullied for his bushy eyebrows. We see his personality a lot more. He wants to be a teacher so he can bully the children of parents who used to be bullies and when he hears the teacher say what he said about Shoko he splashes him with water. In the bridge scene he actually also punches Shoya when he finds out he used to be a bully The yellow haired glasses girl is explicitly more annoying. It’s touched on and fully confirmed she was entirely a bystander. Toshi at some point asks her what she thinks of people who stand on the sidelines when someone is being bullied and she cannot connect the fact she is the one he is talking about… (she’s the worst character in my opinion although she’s well written) Finally. Shoko’s mom! She had a bit darker of a past. In the manga her husband left when Shoko was found out to be deaf. She also refused to learn sign language for whatever reason. I think she had multiple jobs as a single mom and so she left a lot of the raising to her own mother and just didn’t focus on it. Which is why I think she has a lot of the guilt later on if I’m remembering correctly. There’s also the fact the bullies were the ones who found the main character’s body but I think that was touched on

JMuñoz6613

I want to eat your pancreas gotta be the next anime movie

IndiCaliKaze

Hacksaw ridge is better....I don't actually know because I haven't watched this but I'm just saying that cuz it probably is and it didn't even make the list and I'm salty af about it..... Desmond Doss is real.

dee

Momo Lilya

LEYØ

No hard feelings tho

MISPLACED

I really hope you watch “Your Name” too Verti, it’s another beautiful movie Really enjoyed this

daritz_

I don't think the movie itself is necessarily sad, just like you said, verti. I think what really hits is the message and everything Shoya and Nishimiya go through. Their thoughts, feelings, and experiences are things a lot of people can relate to. I also feel like the scenes that resonate the most depend on what each viewer has experienced in their own life. Some people may have hurt someone in the past and still carry guilt because of it (or maybe they've never even admitted it to themselves because it's easier than facing that guilt). Others might have watched someone they love struggle with self-destructive thoughts and felt helpless, not knowing what to do. Some viewers may even relate to Nishimiya's feelings of low self-worth or to the hopelessness that can make someone consider suicide. Even the grandmother's death reminds us how deeply losing someone we love can affect us. But what I love most about the movie is that, despite all of that, it leaves you with hope. It doesn't pretend that healing is easy or that everything magically gets better, but it shows that things can improve. Learning to communicate, accepting your mistakes, working on yourself, loving yourself, and opening up to other people are all so important because nobody is perfect. Every character has flaws, different personalities, and different ways of thinking, but they're all capable of growing and becoming better versions of themselves. Life is hard, and there will always be obstacles, but the movie reminds us that it's worth continuing to move forward for ourselves and for our own happiness.

A1

It is my first time watching it and I really enjoyed it

L8m0n

To answer your question Verti, it’s kinda surreal. Speaking personally now, I tried to take my own life on Christmas Eve; almost a decade ago and awoke in the hospital on Christmas Day and looking at my family felt like those X’s. It’s hard to look your loved ones in the eyes and justify your actions, to see the pain you’ve caused them. However, my family was nothing but supportive and thanks to their bravery I’ve managed to put that part of my life behind me and thank god for each day afterwards.

Ian

"your name" next? loved this reaction

Ian

i watched it for the first time with you! i was always avoiding watching the full movie because i had seen a part of a deaf girl being bullied and knew it was sad. But i saw my boy watch it so i gave it a chance. Thank you verti for the courage, loved this movie.

Big Dan

Echoing what others have said, I want to eat your pancreas is a masterpiece and I'd strongly recommend

Nova

Just an interesting fact: In the english dub, the voice actress of Shoko is actually deaf in real life as well

Lithid

Definitely not even close to one of the saddest animes but still very good. Also, I think that was a koi fish.

Big Dan

Hacksaw Ridge is an absolute masterpiece. Verti definitely needs to put it on the list for the next poll whenever that is. That and Attack on Titan's finale are the only things in terms of movies/shows that have ever got me to tear up. I dont really think its fair to compare this and Hacksaw Ridge since theyre such different films lol, but judging by this comment about Hacksaw Ridge and your comment on the Interstellar video about Interestellar being about God, Im guessing you're probably a Christian? The main message of A Silent Voice is very Christian imo. Its all about forgiveness and self sacrifice. I underrated it on my first watch but its an amazing film with an amazing message for sure.

Big Dan

Hacksaw Ridge too lol

silver soul

5 centimeters per second directed by makoto shinkai has a not si happy ending i love the song it has

Tyan Yellow

This is awesome to know. thank you for sharing yo

firecandys

aintnoway bro is actually writing down notes anyway w video <3

playforte

when Shoko tried confessing she said 好き (suki) which means "I like you" but he thought she said 月 (tsuki) which means "moon" so kinda fair misunderstanding lol

Jk

So in the manga things are explained better but they did put hints in the movie. Here are some things that can be missed on the first watch. Ueno ( the black haired girl) is into shoja (the main character) and that is why she tried to imitate him when they were young and keeps doing it when older. She also has a reading disability so gets frustrated and insecure about it. It also trippled her work load when trying to take notes for Shouko. The teacher in the beginning does nothing to accomodate Shouko and is part of the problem. He sees her as a burden and is the type of person that is just there to get a pay check. He only does something once his boss is present. This is show when he clearly knows and calls out that Shoya was bullying but did nothing about it before. Kawaai ( the blond girl that plays victim) is one of the worst. She pertends to be nice and caring, but bullied just as much, just in subtle ways. If you watch the choir scene again you will see that she intentionally pretends to start singing knowing that Shouko is watching her for a que to start. Getting Shouko to embasmrres herself and get alienated by the others. Yet, she is the first to break into tiers and play victim when called out. Shoukos mom is one of the worst. If you pay attention on second viewing, you will notice that she never uses sign language with Shouko. But the sister and grandmother do. She also sent Shouko to a normal school instead of a special needs school. This is because in the manga it is explained that the father left them because he thought having a deaf daughter was to much effort. The mother blames Shouko for this and refuses to acknowledge that her daughter is deaf, relying on Yuzu (the sister) to translate everything for her. The red head guy absolutely hates bullying. To the point where in the manga, he gets into an altercation with a teacher over it. Cant remember all the details off hand.

Astascurse

Yo Verti is actually such a dumbass sometimes, my girl was dipping her head underwater to find the notebook and bro goes "She cant swim" im crying

FuRyFrenzy

He has to watch your lie in April and violet ever garden

Shahab Qalans

K1N0SUKE

no the fish is a koi fish

HMZ

god i wish you watched this in dub, it just hits way harder

Cherrie

Every time I watch this movie, I'm bawling with him, nothing but tears by the end. Such a beautiful, amazing movie. 🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️

Cherrie

I wish people hadn't told you it was so sad. That made you go in expecting certain things to happen. Sometimes it's better when we don't know anything and get to watch a movie truly blind. But I really loved your reaction!

firecandys

wow what a beautiful amazing movie

juniebjones

but that's what makes him such a good reactor. i honestly prefer when reactors pause and try to understand what's going on as best they can

juniebjones

red herring is a term used to describe when a detail in a piece of media is used to mislead the viewers. i think verti's tryna say that the fish in the water constantly being shown was a red herring to make the viewers feel like someone was going to eventually drown

pyhxo

I feel like people overhype how sad this movie is. Don't get me wrong, I’ve watched it many times and I absolutely love it. But I don't think it's on the level that some people describe, where they say it made them want to kill themselves or left them crying for hours. And I definitely wouldn't call it the saddest anime movie ever made. Personally, I'd recommend Grave of the Fireflies. In my opinion, that's the one that truly leaves you emotionally devastated. No matter how many times I watch it, I always end up crying

juniebjones

bro such a beautiful movie. i watched it in like 2018ish i think and i was in middle school at the time. i thought the movie was good, but i didnt understand the hype. i rewatched it again when i started college and the scene where all the x's fell off made me bawl my eyes out lmao. i think that after years passing by and experiencing life and all the bad parts that come w it to a greater extent, i was able to relate to the mc's anxiety so much more. idk great movie and def one i would recommend to anyone who may be struggling mentally in any way, even if it's just a little

e1

32:00 yooo the other mom ripped ishidas moms earring out bruh damnn

Drifter

you wanna cry go watch grave of the fireflies, highly rated anime movie!!

Jae

Bro is too used to watching and analyzing AOT lmao

HMZ

im glad you survived and ultimately felt better bro

Cardiac Paiń

Can we be fair & let verti watch somethings in dub chat please & thank you 😫

Cardiac Paiń

And if you really want to cry verti you should check out “To your eternity”

rayquaza

Watch I want to eat your pancreas next that’ll actually make you ball your eyes out

Liam Mceleavey

Would never of watched this tbh but glad I did actually was a really good story Also I think you missed the point they wasn’t actually talking shit when he is walking through the hallways that’s just what he’s hearing because he’s paranoid depressed and alone that’s why at the end when he’s walking and they are talking shit it changes to normal conversations But to this whole film I thought it wasn’t going to be a happy ending what a actual twist 🤣

Cornelius Arthur

Fun fact in the dub they got an actual deaf woman to voice Shoko

Cooper Flagg

Well he clearly prefers sub if he’s watching everything with sub and no complaints🤷‍♂️

Cardiac Paiń

I know I’m not fully complaining about it, I get use to after 10 mins of reading. But you’re right almost finished just never seen this movie before & sub titles just moved faster than usual.

Kin

I need him to watch I Want to Eat Your Pancreas I love that movie so much

veb

I know this isnt on topic with this post but after you are done watching aot you should totally watch parasyte its a super good anime

Sleeves

I love this movie! It’s not really a sad movie in my opinion. Just a really emotional movie that makes you feel all sorts of emotions and feelings while watching, but the ending makes everything worth it.

Devin Weaver

“Is it bad? well, fuck you so”

Z

Def not the saddest movie ever made, but I was crying for most of this watch 🥹 sometimes sweet things make me cry more

enormousbong

this movie saved my life, so glad you enjoyed <3

Austin

First time I've watched it as well, They did a really good job, legitimately cried, don't wanna talk about it. Glad you enjoyed it too Verti :)

L8m0n

Thank you. I appreciate the kind words.

Tacosareneat

I had a long af day at work. drank a few beers (I don't drink much), then watched this vid cuz I've never even seen the movie. 1:33:16 I was soooo fucking emotionally invested in the moment while they're signing to the sweetheart angel ASL girl..... And then verti goes "SIX SEVEN 🫲🏿🤪🫱🏿" and I died. Then 30 mins later nishimiya says her birthday is June 7th and ofc vert goes SIX SEVEN 😭

Luna

Wow the details in the manga about her mom really changes everything 😔

Luna

The final scene of overcoming the extreme social anxiety it’s something beautiful and powerful😭

Luna

Your name it’s a beautiful movie ! Hope you watch it next !❤️

AstraT1ger

I have never watched this Movie and I actually nearly cried for 2 times, one when she jump and he fell and than him accepting everyone, genually a good movie, you will definetly like VinlandSaga

lifeislife

saddest anime oat in my opinion is tapoki

Elias Larsen

please watch i want to eat your pancreas, its alot sadder than this one, but also quite a bit better in my opinion, if u like movies like these i highly recommend; i want to eat your pancreas (as i said) your name weathering with you i want to eat your pancreas should be ur next, absolutely amazing movie

Omnipotent

Mati

NomiB

Damien

Praise be to God you are still with us. Much love, glad to hear you're better.

L8m0n

Praise be! And thank you. 🙏

Jacob

this is the first time I've seen this movie, and wow it really is all that it's hyped up to be. I really enjoyed this. hope you get around to train to busan sometime soon, that movie is so good.

Damien

Literally sobbing at that final scene. I wasn't expecting this movie to affect me so much. This is also my first time watching.

IndiCaliKaze

No I'm not Christian. I just don't hate them like most of my generation was raised to. Christianity built the moral framework and a lot more for the U.S. and so I like to give it it's due and not hate on it because it's trendy and I'm ignorant about it. yeah this and hacksaw ridge are definitely not in the same category. I was just being goofy. It's just there are a couple lines in that movie that hit so hard and Desmond Doss is a badass.

Aida Zavala

The Japanese word for carp or the ornamental pond fish is koi (鯉). Remarkably, this is a homophone for koi (恋), which means "romantic love" or "affection"

Patrick Halbeisen

Its not rly a sad anime in in a devastating sense... its more like an emotional slow burn whit beautiful moments.... there are way sadder animes

sazeuni

real! i prefer that more than reactors who talk over the scenes. he also rewinds too! vert’s one of the best ones out there

Klaudia Witek

I’d love for you to watch takopi's original sin to see your reaction to how the characters treat others and the sad whirlwind that show it. 6 episodes.

Wheat Bread

I’m happy you are still here man

L8m0n

Thank you Luffy. Coming from you it means a lot 🥹

Jaun

I’m glad you watched this. I think this is one of those works that makes you want to be a better person. Taking this from a comment I saw in a different reaction to this movie about the koi and the water: “And just before that moment, they have a shared dream, in which Shoya is saying goodbye to her. The translation there is off too. He is saying: "I think I'm going to die (now)" Thats why she runs to the bridge and cries: Shoya has just said goodbye to her and she knows that he is dead now. But then he hears her crying through the koi fish (which in Japanese folklore has a connection to the spirit world) and decides to wake up instead of dying. So if she wouldnt have cried at the bridge, Shoya would have died at that moment.” I choose to believe this interpretation of the fish and water motifs throughout the film. I also know that there is folklore of carp transforming into dragons (like in pokemon with Magikarp and Garidos) so they could be a symbol for change and metamorphosis as we see the characters become better people. Again thanks for watching this movie. I know this show isn’t an anime but another show that changed my outlook on life is “the good place” and I would recommend watching that if you haven’t already.

Lemon Soda

@49:25 Every day after you've planned to do that IS surreal. Sometimes you feel like a coward. Every time something bad happens, you immediately have that thought of "This is why I shouldn't be here". You start to blame your existence for every problem around you. And it can be lessened, but those thoughts don't truly go away. But you just have to keep fighting. Bite down and lock in. Let yourself feel the joy of when you genuinely are smiling and laughing. It's a hard battle, but any and all of us are strong enough to fight it. It's our responsibility to use this hardship to help and protect others from the same pain.

Aidan

Bro said my third leg😂

haso_kurosaki

His real name is Diddy The Papayo

haso_kurosaki

It was sad tho? I mean people were lowk referring "sad" to most of the movie. If they meant sad ending it would mean they were spoiling wich they wouldn't

Master_of_Nen

That’s why when she left the fireworks early she didn’t sign “see you later” back to him

Quinn

The aot ending was actually supposed to be like the mist movie

sean kim

man, the blonde hair girl pissed me off SO MUCH 😭😭. from watching this movie so many times, i picked up on so many small details. kawai was the first shown to bully her, fake singing making shoko think it was time to sing, laughing everytime shoya made a joke, js for her to do that bs to shoya when he was all grown. worst part is in the manga (not shown in the movie), she erases all the bad things shes ever done in her mind and whenever she apologizes, she never meant ANYTHING.

Gonzka

Fuck Kawai san

Sammie Katrina

idk I just watched it and i wasn't disappointed at all so I wouldn't say it's overhyped, that's just me though

Panel V

Ishida was bullied he basically replaced shoko that’s why he was in the water they pushed him in he basically went through the same thing after they exposed him for bullying

J

Deep Thoughts with Verti lol

Jay!!

I really respect that you are open minded to different kinds of movies. People these days are too proud to watch a movie like this, especially men. I’m glad you started watching anime. I watched all your death note reactions and your aot videos. I got patreon because I had to finish aot with you lol. I couldn’t wait to see what you thought of the basement, the rumbling, and the ending. I only started watching you a couple weeks ago but I have watched a TON of your content. You are seriously my top three favorite YouTubers of all time at the moment. Maybe do some games too? Trying different video games would be something I would love to watch! Maybe throw in a random game once a week, I’d watch for sure. Keep up the good work I hope this line of work is fruitful for you and your enjoyment of doing this never goes away. Thanks for the entertainment you’re amazing!!

Adyan Apurbo

Watch Your lie in April !!!!!

Harue

if im not wrong the movie is based of a real storie but in the real storie she actually dies :c
