hello! my hangover and I write this postcard to you from manhattanI saw some of you at books are magic on saturday and some of you at the book fest on saturday and some of you at both. wonderful times, endless thanks for coming out.today I went to the met and cried three times: first, so moved by the charisma of one of the gallery guides and the clear shining light of her lived experience, I got teary when she made eye contact with me...elsewhere an elderly woman worked on a sketch of a statue of dionysus so casual in its severe competence that I felt dizzy....I also saw joan of arc by jules bastien-lepage and stood in its cast shadow for like ten minutes (it's huge, really striking in person) until it had finally had its way with me. her face! those wet blue eyes! frozen in spiritual awakening, the equal euphoria and grief of realization – and the almost creepy inhuman elvishness of archangel michael, so cool, wow! I'm not usually an 'art person' in this way but her expression really got to me.
also in new york I have received some incredible politcally-charged gossip, kissed someone I've been meaning to kiss and had the opportunity to pay $16 for a small glass of wine + a $3 tip. what a place!on wednesday I get a train from new york to boston. for now I'm recovering in my hovel with the intent to finish this video tonight. will share it with you as soon as it's done. for now here's a little teaser.
kisses
