Why Overcast? (Patreon)

(Ignore sky and fog, sky is for reference to real life comparison and I didn't replace fog yet :D)

Game textures are not PBR textures, when its rendered with PBR sunlight its losing a lot of details compared to PBR textures and becomes washed out.
Even if game had PBR textures, sunlight is always going to reduce details and this is a problem because games already have minimal amount of details compared to real life.
Lets say even game had a lot of details, without very high quality micro shadows like in real life, you cannot see the details because of lack of micro shadows.
Overcast = no shadow = higher fps for everyone
People think sunlight helps to improve variety of lighting compared to overcast but its false because as you can see overcast weather can provide a lot of different variety of lighting.
I am also planning to make some extra performance improvements later inside rendering pipeline so you can actually get more fps compared to default lighting.
I understand people think sunlight looks good with default game lighting but its never going to be realistic because of these reasons.
Only reason scene doesn't lose a lot of details with default sunlight in game because sunlight is just brightness multiplier, it doesn't do any realistic lighting calculation.
I might add sunlight later with updates but I'm not sure yet. I want to focus on overcast lighting first because its the best way to get most realistic result. Sunlight is never going to be realistic as much as overcast :/
This is with sunlight https://i.imgur.com/0R4S6jn.jpeg Sure, it looks better than default lighting but still lost a lot of realism because of the points I mentioned.
When I'm going to release it?
First I need to make new weather system with some static background and dynamic clouds. Then I can release new lighting system without new foliage because it looks pretty good. I can add new foliage later.
