I think you're misinterpreting what kind of character Jack is supposed to be NDNDNSN4NE He's the unhinged hitman/right-hand man of a gang leader who makes everyone uncomfortable because he is nawt take things as seriously as the other members. Just another day of killing people yippee anyways The smiling wide eyed look is kinda his thing, he's supposed to be unnerving. In a way it's kinda giving anime lol Just enjoy watching his mocking smile turn into a real one.

A-Fei and Zhao Zi are nicknames for when you're kinda close with each other, you usually add A in front of a syllable of their name, same with Zhao Zi, Zi is kinda like "kid" or "son" endearingly haha

Knowing what happened at the end of this episode, I was almost too excited to watch 😂 The rollercoaster never stops by the way!

As the other commenter said. Jack's character has a lot of layers. The man is basically a psycho. Watching him sometimes reminds me of the serial killer interviews I've watched where the person has anti-social personality disorder, and they have crazy/unnerving smiles while talking about doing the most disturbing things. That's low-key Jack, imo. Often his smile is sarcastic/condescending as well, and if you pay attention to when/how he does it, you'll notice he smiles 1. Whenever he thinks someone is saying/doing something stupid or that he knows is a lie. 2. To ease tension (often caused by himself) as a way of hiding his true nature/intentions, like after he's made a threat, as if to say he's just joking. 3. When there's something he knows or wants to say/do but doesn't so as to not worsen things. 4. Because Li An did/said something cute.

In Chinese nicknames, it's pretty common for friends/family to call someone by "A-(name)" like A-fei. For example, in The Untamed A-ying is the nickname for Weiying and in Word of Honor A-xu is the nickname of Zhou Xu. It's kinda like Hao-ya, or Hanbin-ie, just a little affect added before the name to soften the tone and usually shows affection and familiarity. A little less common is to call someone "(surname)-zi" like Zhao-zi. "Zi" literally means son or child. The closest equivalent of "zi" in Japanese is "ko", also meaning child. You may notice Japanese nicknames like Nezuko from Demon Slayer using ko to add "childlike innocence" to the name.
