Okay, I did start it. I can't help myself. I'm curious and it looks too good! But I had to pause at 4:51 bc I'm surprised RJ heard people didn't like it. My timeline was flooded with praise (but I have a lot of people blocked. Lol). This is an assumption, bc I'm really out of the loop, but I'm always confused by people who watch shows and complain about characters being real or messy like... don't you want things to happen? hii, i'm so /happy/ litbc won this round, it's a win for me! i read the book in february and absolutely loved it--it remains one of the best reads from this year (and would 100% recommend it to you :]). just fyi (without giving too much away), between the movie and the tv show, the latter is the more faithful adaptation, since the movie only covers the first chapter of the novel. i was really thrilled to learn that this project would include the whole story because the book only gets better the further you go :] so excited to hear your thoughts in the recap!

the dialogue in this show is so delicious. I live for banter. I live for characters talking as fast as they can and over each other. This feels like a master class in dialogue.

Sorry in advance for this essay of a comment but I realised watching the recap that there is some context lost for those who haven’t spent much time in the Itaewon club scene. So, as someone who has (lol), I wanted to share some location-related context that I think adds meaningful depth and realism to this episode. Specifically, you guys were shocked that they were kissing on the street, and no one seemed to care. That’s because the street they are on is Homo Hill (I didn’t make that up lol, google it). It is the area with all the longest-running gay clubs and bars which evolved into the area being almost exclusively queer establishments. I have spent a lot of time in front of that graffiti wall lol. To add to that, the club where GoYoung meets his friends (with the crown logo) is called King. It actually closed earlier this year, but it was one of the biggest and most well-known gay clubs in Seoul. It was on the corner at the bottom of Homo Hill, and that graffiti wall is on the side of the King Club building. So anyone going to King or the surrounding clubs will stand there to smoke or pre-drink or, in this case, kiss! I just thought this context added so much depth because anyone in the Itaewon club scene will instantly recognise those locations and probably have their own memories there. I think it’s also really great that they included places with historical importance in the Korean LGBTQ+ community. And with geographical accuracy!! Also, in the Karaoke scene, they are in Jongno. Jongno is the older, more local/underground gay area in Seoul. It’s less clubs and more Gay pubs/pochas, karaoke bars, and theatres. I don’t know as much about it, but there is still a gay scene there that has a culturally rich and deep-rooted history. I often heard older gays referring to it. Anyway, hope that was interesting for someone. This show really is made by and for the queer community, and that’s why it’s such an important show!!

They’re dancing to “old girl group songs 😭” in the club & at karaoke because this portion of the series takes places in early to mid 2010s. In the novel the main character & his friend group are OBSESSED with T-ARA, glad they kept that for this adaptation. I also heard they got one of the T-ara members to teach the cast their dances, she’s credited!!

I love it! some BL girlies might not be ready for this reality. It's not just love stories; it's queer stories. It's their life, and it's always colorful, so if that part is hard to understand or relate to, then they are limited to being Yaoi girlies. Not allies. No judgment, though.
