This will not make sense, but I get so much gender envy from Fou4Mod’s hair. That spikey short hair that’s giving a little 90’s punk. Spiritually, that's me. If I was born in a different body and with different hair texture, I’d have it. Honestly, the whole show is so aesthetically pleasing. The stuff that’s maximalist on purpose, but the stuff that’s just natural like the look of the streets and all the ads. Oh god, this show is gonna make me wanna do my nails.

In rare fashion, I am watching this for the first time with y'all. Like ITSAY, I didn't think I could handle the emotional damage alone, so I'm glad you're watching it! So far, I'm not crying, but I am going to cringe to death. It's so tense! I love it for all it's awkwardness and long pauses where we're just stewing in the tension. It's oddly cathartic. I have no idea what's going to happen next.

are you guys watching the charging gels? they are these little short stories that were released on youtube to complement each episode. i wouldn't recommend digging into youtube to watch them as you will encounter spoilers w the most recent charging gels popping up, (also only the first three are subbed..) but maybe you can have someone download the subbed for you so you can watch the one corresponding to each episode as you go? i don't know!! rewatching with you two is making me fall in love w gelboys all over again<3

Guys, you really need to watch the charging gel episodes after each main episode of the drama. They are important complements to the main story and they allow you to learn more about the characters. I definitely don’t recommend waiting until you are done with the whole show to watch them.

Still at the beginning but wanted to explain that fou4mod's non-girlfriend says "fuen" aka faen (boyfriend/girlfriend) + puen (friend) so they had to think of an English equivalent which was fouble.

ITTSAY and now this first ep of gel boys are the only thai BLs I've seen- I'm trying to put my finger on this same feeling they both elicit in me and I think it's a general low level of stress while watching because the teen shenanigans feel so real I'm either getting second hand embarrassment or living in fear that something is about to happen that will be embarassing- so they've successfully put me back in a teenage stage of mind I guess 😅

They got permits to shoot at the mall but without big equipment, that's why they end up doing the show with iPhones. They also had a sign like "We are recording, move or you will be on the show". You'll see more on the documentary and "Inside Gel" eps but they also recorded inside the trains when they were close.

i don't know if anyone told you already but there are some extras on the looke youtube channel called "Charging Gel" that are extra scenes from each episode that continue the story. Some of them does not have english sub but are still really interesting.

I have not gotten a chance to watch. this yet so I’m soooo glad I have an excuse. The main lead, Fou4Mod, was in a hetero drama called Ready, Set, Love, but was one of a few queer characters (and actually had a whole ass BL subplot). He was great in it so I’m sure I’ll like him in this.

Not sure if someone has already mentioned it, but there are .5 episodes on IQIYI called Secret Gels or something along those lines. It’s a 5 odd minute snippet that gives you a little added context into one scene in the main episode. In the earlier episodes, the context is not all that relevant but in the latter episodes, it kind of is. Would suggest watching them as each episode ends. So 2.5 when you watch ep2.

I think they have to pay for the music. I know the actors always joke about not singing certain songs cause it cost too much. LOL BKPP joke all the time about it and they make money when their songs get used. I wonder if it's cause of Spotify maybe they got some deal?

I had to shoot a short like this with no licensing and yeah we would shoot wide first and then short. Try and do it in as few takes. Editing was literally a monster and had the whole thing ADR basically. (I was actor but roped into helping where I could because we had to be sneaky and creative when places or things didn’t work). You also had to trust your scene partner and be able to improv when things happened with unscripted extras lol. A lot of restaurants and stores are super sweet in actually helping out as long as you give them little ppl or have them extra lol. SOME people who were sitting on benches saw we were shooting and would stay on the bench to keep continuity! Super sweet. Loved when car horns would just BLAST through a huge line of dialogue. A very stressful three day 18 hrs each day shoot. Pretty sure I saw shrimp colors at the end. Ps: first time seeing this director and writer and I have to say…I fucking love the vibe. I’m super excited.

Full honesty, when I was exploring this series I ran into the clip of the white boy wanting to be brown and it just rub me the wrong way, but I didn't look into it. So hopefully is nothing problematic. I think I interpret that as a BIPOC person living in america so it was a bit weird....but I'm watching.

You should've looked into it because he wasn't "wanting" to be brown, there is important context that would technically be spoilers but i can say Bua is mixed and in that specific clip he's doing that because of his insecurities / identity. As a poc I don't understand how that's problematic but I respect your opinion.

It is a Thai show so you have to put yourself in that perspective. He doesn't want to be "brown", he is insecure about not being fully Thai because of a comment someone makes. I understand how you might view that if it was shown in an American show, but in Asia, being white stands out specifically and is not always often seen. I am something who is mixed, but looks completely white similiar to how this actor does, and I grew up in a rural town in Japan as one of the only non-Japanese person, it's a very different experience than how mine now living in the USA as an adult. Race is viewed very differently in Asia than it is the USA.

oh okay, that's good to hear. Like I said it's my first time watching, so I wasnt aware they were mixed and I didn't bother on giving that scene grace. I'll keep watching to see how it develops. My point was more in my assumption that the character was white and it the scene (which again I didn't have context of, just a short clip in IG) it created a picture of a white looking character having a hard time because of their color of their skin and eyes, and in this political time it didn't sit well with me. But I'm glad that's not the case.

Again, remember it is not America. It is Asia, and even if he wasn't mixed, it would still make sense for a white teenager in a completely Thai environment to have a hard time due to his race. He looks very obviously different than his peers and that creates anxiety/insecurity in anyone.

Something that is kinda missing from context is that Fou4mod (and a little bit of some of the other characters) speaks in a lot of gay slang. It's kinda unfortunate because the subtitles just translate it to make it understandable, when he actually says some pretty wild/vulgar slang terms/phrases.

I've been waiting for Boss Kuno's new project for years after “ITSAY” and finally! But when “Gelboys” came out, I didn't know he was the creator, so I'll be watching it with you for the first time! P.S. Although I'm still confused why you haven't finished watching season 2 “ITSAY” and I hope that after this show you will finally do so 🙏😭

My kids had to go through school on zoom because of Covid. (The computer screen had the same thing as what you saw on this show at the beginning). My son almost had to repeat the year when Covid hit he was in his last year of middle school and my daughter was a junior in HS. It was horrifying because he has ADHD. Eventually I had to have him test out during his sophomore year. School was ruined for him. No socialization and the isolation!!!!! He loved to play sports and he would get mad and depressed (our schools did zoom for two and a half years). He never joined sports again. My daughter on the other hand- she’s so emo that she didn’t mind it. She thrived on this and tested out too. She got her associate degree by the time she was 18 because hell there was nothing to do!!!!!!! I feel sorry for any and all kids during Covid. Their lives are very very different than the rest of ours.
