I WILL just say, as someone who is scared of snakes (the first two episodes gave me nightmares) that the snakes aren’t major through the whole plot. Except for Little Vinegar (Little Jealous One), he’s in the whole show but not as much as the first bit. I didn’t understand all of the snake plot, luckily you don’t have to in order to get the plot of the show. lol

Not sure if you know, but the same author who wrote Addicted / Stay With Me also wrote this book. The connection would be clearer if you watched the original, unhinged Addicted Heroin series. I was dying laughing at your reaction to all of the snake stuff. Especially MIXED WITH SAND?? Please know that not understanding wtf is happening with the snake stuff really doesn't take away from enjoying the show. Just let that subplot flow over you like water. Also, the actor who plays the doctor is, in fact, 20 years old now, so your guess of 17 years old wasn't far off.

I'm not all the way through the reaction yet, but the set design in this show is its own character. I will never stop laughing at the gay bar/clubhouse that hosts underground snake fighting (the ABO tyres, the rainbow flags everywhere), the doctor's clinic that has the consult desk in the reception area/waiting room(!), and Chi Cheng's awful decor (keep an eye on the rugs). And the doctor is seriously 12! I also went with a Doogie Howser scenario, but I'm not sure he's that smart...

Thought I would do a Chinese name primer because everyone calls everyone a diff nickname and that gets wild when its not translated. Wu Qi Qiong / Wu Suo Wei His original name "Qi Qiong" has the homonyms of "beggar" and "poor", which is why he changes his name later after Yueyue breaks up with him for being poor. 2. Wu Suo Wei - The name itself means Anything/Whatever, but actually comes from the longer phrase "无所畏惧" (Wu Suo Wei Ju) which means nothing to fear. That's why CC comments "so fearless" after hearing it the first time. 1. Da Bao - CC calls him this because its the name of a brand. WSW gifts him a lotion from this brand that has the famous jingle of "See you everyday". It also means Big Treasure. The reason CC calls his snake WSW's son is a play on Chinese naming conventions. In Chinese families, the oldest will be called Big "Name". Since WSW is "Da Bao" , and the snake is called "Xiao Cu Bao" (Small Vinegar Bag), its a cute joke saying they're related. Kind of like James Sr and James Jr. They also occasionally call the snake as "Er Bao" or (Second Treasure), again, another cute nickname which indicates WSW as part of CC's little family. WSW is the oldest and XCB is the second. 2. Xiao Shuai (Dr) calls WSW as "Da Wei", again it's just another cute nickname, playing on his actual name. (Also a direct transliteration of "David"). 3. Da Qiong - WSW's mom calls him this, again the prefix and one character of his given name (Wu Qi Qiong). You can add the prefix "Da" (Big) or "Xiao" (Small) to any part of a person's name and it becomes an intimiate nickname, quite casual and that can be used by close friends/family. Casual/Friendly Address Da is more casual, but has a goofy neighborhood kid kind of vibe. So you can see when XS and WSW's mom call him "Dawei" or "Daqiong", it's really intimate, and he's kind of a goofball to them. You wouldn't see people call CC, Da Cheng, or Da Chi (it's too goofy and doesn't fit his personality). Xiao is more diminutive or affectionate and often used by someone older to someone younger. I.E Chi Cheng's parents call him Xiao Chi. Kind of has that older person looking at you in an aww, I want to take care of you vibe. Doubling up on a name also makes it sound cute and soft, and more romantic than a normal prefix. Ordinary friends or acquaintances definitely wouldn't use this address. WSW = Weiwei, JXS = Shuaishuai. Yueyue is NOT an example of this intimate address, her name is literally 岳悦 (Yue (Last Name), Yue (Joy)) Two separate characters which are homonyms. Fun fact: The actor who plays Wu Suo Wei's real name is 郑朋 Zheng Peng and so people sometimes call him by the intimate nickname "Yueyue" 月月. If you can see, this is a cute play on breaking up the character of his real name into 2. Manly/Bro-y Address A suffix you can add to any part of a person's name is "Zi". It doesn't have any real meaning, it just has a nice ring to it. Like Sam -> Sammy. It is more of a gruff, manly nickname, that's why you'd see people refer to Chicheng as Chizi, rather than DaChi or Dacheng. Another suffix you can add is also "Ge" which is like Phi for Thai BL lovers, or older brother. You'd add it at the end of the name, so CC = Chige. The person doesn't actually have to be older, it's all vibes/position of authority. Calling someone Chi-ge has the feeling like he's a mob boss and you're the subordinate. The last one commonly used in the show is "Shao", which is short form for the Chinese phrase "Shao ye", or young master. Usually reserved for people from an actually rich family with power/position. You'd use this nickname usually for someone who is both rich but also is high society and has refined/elegant vibes, not rough mob-bosses. Guo Chengyu is often referred to as Guo "Shao". Kind of long but hope that helps non Chinese speakers, each nickname really has a different feel when it's used and it's so cute and immediately lets you know about the vibe of the person so just thought I'd share~

its not that censored, if by means of taiwan nc scenes, nc scenes depending on country makes a huge difference, in comparison the scene would've been slightly lighter than a korean nc scene. but no where near as unreasonable as thailand or the philipines. it's probably more so less kisses or no saliva or no tongue visibility. ABO desires was banned on some apps because of male pregnancy (because its omegaverse theme not because of same sex couples). thailand tends to go further because of it's country history and adult industry makes up about 20% of it economy, so the censoring typically far more light and the actors are willing to go further although sometimes draws the line right at softcore even by western standards. for example my stubborn, 4 minutes, only friends, and sangmin nc scenes are not necessary, when really actors should not be required to do anything beyond the one in" ballboy tactic" hopefully this helped.

i rly wanted to like this because it was so hyped and i feel like we all got excited bcos CHINESE BL poppin' off?! but i just couldn't finish watching it. i think i managed to get about halfway through because there are some interesting moments, but i gave up TT however, i think i can finish it if i watch alongside y'all! i will say though that a lot will fly over your head if you're not chinese or used to consuming chinese content. i find there's a bigger cultural/language gap. i'm chinese and i often have trouble explaining/translating things to people who aren't chinese because there are so many things that just don't have an english language or cultural equivalent. but chinese is such a colorful language and once you get used to the way they speak (even thru translation) it's incredibly entertaining and rewarding. ALSO, as a reptile lover (with a pet snake of my own, she is very cute and pink) i have a LOT of qualms about how snakes and snake care are portrayed in this show omg. thankfully they appear less throughout but girl i was so annoyed the first few eps LOL

In the novel Chi Cheng is far more violent towards people, especially sexually. Torture is a major turn on for him and hospitalization is routine for his partners. The show cut out a majority of that so he is a softer version in the series. I'm sure censorship probably played a part as well.

I love a romp almost as much as I love melodrama, so I was immediately locked in. The fact this entire show hinges on a dad kidnapping his son’s snakes is SO FUNNY. And you’re right, everyone’s a little cartoony. Chi Cheng constantly being inside a cloud of smoke while holding a snake cracks me up and Wu Suowei being a scheming little gremlin makes him so lovable. Everyone’s constantly scheming, it’s amazing. I'm so excited for you guys to get into the meat of the show.

This show would’ve been a 10/10 for me, if it weren’t for all the dubious consent and even the sexual violence in EP 1 was super unnecessary, which you mentioned. It definitely read like overkill. Luckily, it’s not the entire show (I have other gripes, but I won't spoil). But I was talking to someone on discord about how it feels like this show is having to play catch up with modern BL bc this is technically their first. Even the author rewrote the story to tone it down. I feel like this show matches the ideals/tropes of BL from five/six years ago, like CC manhandling WSW. Now, we’ve outgrown them (thankfully).
